Why Are Players Not Voting?

(Black) #1

This is geared more specifically in casual gameplay because unbalanced teams are more rampant there.

Ever since this game was released i’ve noticed that when ever a vote is cast, it usually never gets passed because so few people vote on it whether it’s a good or bad vote.

In a recent patch the voting indicator was made more “noticeable” but players are still not voting.
I believe this is because players either don’t feel the need to vote or they don’t notice it.

We don’t want to force anybody to vote, however I believe that making the vote a little more noticeable to the point where it would be annoying to ignore would be the best solution for this.

For example, when a vote is cast, instead of it being small and in the top left corner make it appear over a HUD item such as the health bar, ammo, or objective.

Now they can still press that X button to say they don’t want to vote, so it’s completely up to them.

Questions?

I almost always vote, and on shuffle (never mind which team [losing or winning]) I vote yes… But imagine this example. Two teams are playing stopwatch… First team wins fair and square, now you are in that team and you carried whole team. And finally on end of second match, someone from other team remembered to vote shuffle… Why would I vote then? It’s like you completely won first round, and teams shuffle, and you end up losing because of yourself…
I am not saying this is always case, but there are too much of this cases (in which votes always fail).
On the other hand, people aren’t voting because they feel bad for voting no, and they are in winning team… when they start losing though, they are whining about how no one votes… I am angry at those people…
I can’t imagine someone not voting, because he doesn’t know the vote is going on… come on even if you don’t see it, you hear it.

(I actually missed one vote myself because i clicked esc instead of F1, and menu opened and i could move, but couldn’t close menu… Neither did the voting work)

Point is, people don’t vote because they are winning and don’t want to lose their progress for their team…

sry for my english :stuck_out_tongue:

I honestly think they just don’t see it.

I was speaking to someone highly involved in a game I used to play a couple of years ago who used to help show the game off at events to get new players into it. According to them, even though the game literally flashes text at them telling them what to do they were unable to figure it out until he literally pointed at the message and explained it to them.

The average gamer is fucking retarded.

Yeah, could be they are totally in game… But I hear those voting sounds even when they are not there, could be that other team is vote kicking someone, but yeah…

I profoundly agree.
However I see shuffle voting as something that should only be done at the BEGINNING of a game and not during in between unless a handful of players join.

Players especially in that case on the winning team will refuse to vote. However with this new system. All it takes is for everyone on the losing team to vote, and ONE person on the winning team to vote in order to shuffle the teams. (51%). Not that hard.

I’m all for shuffling at the start of the game, but people that try and call shuffles 8 minutes in make me laugh. Like, are you serious, people just played for almost 10 minutes to win and you want to stick them on the losing team for a chance at winning yourself. Please.

This is pretty much the ONLY time the Shuffle Teams vote is ever used, I totally agree.
Wonder if they should just lock that vote from being called after X amount of time?

It feels wrong to implement restrictions everywhere just to stop people from doing stupid things… but in this case it might help in the long run.

Something like… 5 minutes to call for shuffle, and after that time if it is attempted, the user trying to initiate the vote can get a message telling them that Team Shuffle Votes cannot only be called within 5 minutes of the match starting, they may remember to call it earlier this way. Would be more likely to pass a vote, and keep things more fair for both sides… In theory.

5 Minutes might be too much time still, depending on the teams, whole maps have been known to end in under 3.

It is easy enough to see. The problem is, many players wont vote unless they know WHY they are voting to kick a player. Often there are insecure little chaps that vote to kick a player just because they got insulted for making a really crap play.

Vote kick should be used for the right reasons (i.e. hackers), not for some bad player to get revenge just because someone didn’t revive him or throw him some ammo when he needed it.

I never vote because I’m a go with the flow kinda guy. Live and let live man

No this wont work.
In casuals players can leave and join easily.

There will be plenty of times the team can go from unbalanced to balanced due to that freedom.

However to eliminate the problem Snakekillerx is talking about is too, make it so players can’t vote shuffle near the end of a game.

Make shuffle not available when the deliver the datacores point in game is reached.

I love me some EMPs melting Steel Beams.

Yes, these are annoying. I’m have a custom HUD and in the beginning I thought that I removed the GUI for voting because I heard sounds but nothing appeared…

And is there even an autokick for inactivity? I’ve had 2 games yesterday where two different people spawned, didn’t move even once, got killed and didn’t spawn again. They were just taking up slots in my team…

I dunno if the patch yesterday dungoof’d something, but I definitely got a massive warning for incoming autokick when I was standing still at spawn and chatting to teamchat when enemy team had a blatant hacker and I had gotten my record footage of him already. It was something covering the area of the top center of the screen, equalient of the size of the objectvie progression bar in width and minimap sized in height, and flashing. It did seem to go off from slightest move of the mouse though.

After seeing that my only sole question is why the bloody horsepiss is voting screen not executed in the same way? I’ll try to reproduce it today and grab a screenshot, it’s so hilariously outstanding you’d have to got medically proven blindness not to notice it.

Unfortunately I also miss often many votes, because I don’t notice it often until someone write in chat: “Vote!”

That same situation happened like a hour ago in server. Our team had cheater in the team and enemies pointed that out. I made a vote about kicking the player, but many of my team mates didn’t vote until I wrote to the chat: “Vote!”

Then vote passed and cheater got kicked out of the server.
Sometimes it’s not about team wanting to keep the cheater in. Sometimes they clearly won’t notice the vote before it’s too late.

(Yes) #16

Unfortunately, people from the winning side typically vote no for a shuffle anyway. Similarly, there are people that like being carried by cheaters and will vote no to kick them.

(VincentRJaeger) #17

This has happened to me enough times to make me frustrated, and it takes a lot to get me mad.
Seriously. Stop protecting the cheater just so you can get some XP.

(Dirmagnos) #18

Vote initiation message should appear in the middle-upper side of the screen, above crosshair, with transparent larger letters.
After a second, so that brain processes it, message is folded and moved to the top middle part of the screen. So that voting in progress could be actually seen.
Placing it in some corner, amidst of all the messages, is stupid. It doesnt stand up in any way and people usually simply miss it.
Currently only way for me to know that vote is on is an audio notification. and even that tends to get lost if there is a lot of shooting going on.
Also voting absolutely needs a reason options. Apart of general community apathy and stupidity(yes, im talking about losers who are willing, if not welcoming, to tolerate obvious cheaters so that they could win a game), id say that second reason why people do not vote is because they dont know what vote is all about.

(XavienX) #19

Either they don’t see it, or they’re too lazy or just rude lol.

(Ethalin) #20

I sometimes get the issue were it tells me to hit 1 or 2 not f1 and f2 to vote then nether one works. I haven’t gotten it after the update so maybe its been fixed. That might be one reason why though.
