Why are mounted machine guns so terrible?

(Oschino1907) #41
Shows how much time I’ve spent on the stat site.

64 kills for 127 uses. But obviously no stat for “turret assists” where they soften people up. So yeah, they don’t exactly mow folks down, but they are useful.

Edit: Oschino’s kill/use ratio is better: 193 for 283 uses.
I havent been on the site in a while, would love to check out what my weapons stats are like since the patch/DLC, maybe I will check later today or tomorrow like I have been telling myself for over a week now.

But yeah If I am that efficient with them makes me wonder how much more it would have been if I didnt purposely put them in harms way at times just to slow down people or spend time placing them to guard areas (flanks or command post) that no one ever ended up going to. When you place them right and keep them repaired after assaults they can last for a good while and get a few kills without a problem.

@SinDonor, I am right there with you, amongst most of my friends in every game I play I am always the guy who tends to have the most assists, In COD and many others where its tracked I often refered to myself as the John Stockton of the match/game.

@Darksider, didnt know things were supposed to zoom in close without anykind of scope.

Why do you guys keep saying the MG nest is inaccurate. I said this before earlier and I’ll say it again, this gun is crazy accurate. I’ve hit people on security tower hiding behind one of the covers that have a small slit separating the bottom cement block and upper metal plate, by shooting through that small slit “CONSISTENTLY!!!”

(Spendlove) #43

This is the only mg nest I like. Its a real shame that they can’t be destroyed once built by a soldier with the hi-ex (as you can in QWET).

Maybe if they were buffed (sustained fire accurate) but destroyable that would balance them out?

Yes, I concur…

I have too. But bullets spread on it so you have to know how to use it and adjust accordingly, adapt and overcome. Easier said than done for some.

(Hot-Wire) #46

I outsnipe snipers with that beast of a turret. And I mean good snipers, since the bullets actually hit what I am at. (Their heads)

The only thing to get use to is the minute adjustments required to make the tiny reticule fall on your target. … but once you have it and get use to following enemies with it, this gun is unstoppable. I’ve single handily trapped a team of 6 human players in their spawn on the last part of Resort, while using the resistance side mg nest.

I’m sorry, I have followed everyone’s advice on using the mounted machine guns and I still think they are terrible…

It took me nearly 15 seconds to kill someone with one about 40 yards away, and I was using light bursts…

Ha ha ha. 15 seconds! :penguin: Can you shoot this cute penguin?

(Cep) #49

griff just don’t use them, I have to be honest and say I very rarely if ever see experienced players use them. I may jump on one if I am out of ammo and the enemy is there in front of me but in general I tend not to bother.

(Oschino1907) #50

When out of ammo or not trying to waste it with a gun thats not meant for range or sustained auto firing… No one here is trying to say they use them all the time or that they are the **** and murder people with them, just that when used at the right time and with the right tactics they are very useful and can def be a surpressing force on some levels. And to those who ignore guys using them that if their is an experianced player on the other end of that mounted MG expect to die or take some heavy damage because when fired/controlled well they are very accurate and the sustained fire just drains life even if it is slowly doing so.

(Duraigo) #51

What i want from MGs in any game:

 1. Zoom in feature
 2. Be able to be destoyed
 3. Players have to reload the MGs
 4. The MGs can run out of ammo
 5. Ammo giving classes can restock the MGs

(Xiphoid) #52

Every other game I’ve played makes Machine Gun Nests deadly, but with the drawback of being easily sniped out of them.

(Nexolate) #53

This is exactly why they need a bit of a boost. Atm it’s almost suicidal to choose using an MG Nest.

Nexo
First of all, does covering fire ever work in video games? Covering fire usually requires that the other guys are actually scared of dying.
It works because when heads pop up or players run out, they get shot down even if they’re not scared of dying.

it’s not to deter enemies. It’s to actually shoot them before they get a chance to intercept a teammate.

(Fetter) #55

In BFBC2, the machine guns are killing machines, but using one of the unshielded guns nearly guarantees that you will be sniped in the head, mortared, or rocketed. In BRINK, where mortars and rockets don’t exist and sniper rifles are very limited, that sort of stuff wouldn’t fly, so the guns are weaker by comparison. That said I do find them somewhat underwhelming-- aside from the gun facing the bridge on Resort (which can be used to damage the bot very easily), I don’t make much use of the guns, though I do usually construct them for free experience.

(esomonk) #56

The guns are so anemic they might as well be removed. Suppression doesn’t work well enough to actually suppress. Its just a weak fixed gun. If its a Suppression weapon it needs to be strong enough to create a zone of denial. If the enemy can run through it it never was a zone of denial. Now if it just kills things you should be able to take someone out who runs across your how field of view, without dying. Most of time you’ll be there 10 second before someone headshots you or stabs you.

(LockedToxicity) #57

i’m not even sure why snipers were put in the game, they just don’t fit in :l

(Punisher_ITA_) #58

They are awful. Totally useless.

(Metal-Geo) #59

Such a shame they’re useless!

Because the great thing about them could’ve been their ‘usefulness’ for both defenders and attackers. Their locations/positions would make them great on both ends. But as of now, they’re a waste of time and are only good to collect some XP for the engineers.

(iezza) #60
Just stop while you you can, its obvious you play engineer little or the game itself very little. Turrets can be awesome, they arent meant to be a rplacement for another soldier but a SENTRY TURRET, it warns you of people and lets you know they are there while providing some extra firepower to weakin or kill them. Now they can be very effective killers if used correctly and here is why/how.

DO NOT place them with walls behind or close to sides, they only help trap the grenades tossed and keep them close to the turret. (unless its an angeled wall on one side or while following the next tip)

DO try to place them where they must be walked passed before noticed to surprise them and make it easy to set up cross fires or in a far off place angled right to the area you want covered, they may take a bit to track but they have pretty much unlimited range and are very accurate when locked.

DO place atleast one mine behind them so it kills or gives a warning of anyone who is trying to destroy or hack the turret.

DO NOT place them in the middle of ANYTHING unless its elevated and in an open area.

DO upgrade all the way to Gatling if you bother to be serious about turrets.

anyone else please feel free to add, this is just off the top of my head.
Do stay within close proximity , the turrets need to be looked after. Also, watch out for fishy people behind you, they usually will hack your turret in 1/3 of the time taken to Make it.

DO Let an operative control your turret, if you play engiee right, it will be as usefull as erectin dispensars.
