Why are mounted machine guns so terrible?

(grifflyman) #1

I came back to this game after about 2 months of not playing and I was shocked to find the mounted machine guns were still a joke.

There are several maps were the mounted machine gun could help even the odds, but it’s just so worthless!

It has terrible range and it’s damage output past 20 or 30 feet is horrible!

You can’t kill anything beyond 30 feet, when other smaller caliber weapons can!

I honestly got more kills with the pump shotgun at 20 to 30 yards…

To annoy camper noobs.

I don’t think they are meant to take out waves of enemies. They seem more like they were put there to provide cover fire for your teammates. The way most of them are positioned would be extremely overpowered if the machine gun nest was buffed to deal significant damage.

If the MG’s could just zoom in, i would be fine.

I would be cool with a stronger, better mounted machine gun IF they were destroyable. So an Engie builds it, someone uses it, enemies shoot at it, and after X amount of damage it blows up and falls back apart. Then an Engie can fix it up again. To prevent XP farming, it can only be destroyed while in use and only by opposing teams.

Yes? No? Rubber baby buggy bumpers?

(grifflyman) #6

It can’t even be used for covering fire…

(lobster) #7

I have no problems with it, try holding down M1.

Like deployables they are a distraction rather than a force to be reckoned with.

The point is that it’s more effective to stand behind the nest and just shoot normally than it is to actually use it. The only advantage MG nests have over conventional firearms is that they don’t run out of ammo, that’s all.

I assumed that this was General Chat, but it was in ‘Brink’. I therefore have no reason to comment on the issue.

almost all of them are placed in favor of the defending team. F that S.

(Stormchild) #12

Can they be destroying once built ? Because I recall in ET such MG’s could be destroyed. But then, they were also more potent.

(RandyNinja) #13

they might not have ammo but they have a cool down period. they should increases the damage but decrease the duration

My limited experience with them is that as they are totally useless due to being massively inaccurate.

I decided this early on and haven’t tried them again since, so I might be wrong though.

First of all, does covering fire ever work in video games? Covering fire usually requires that the other guys are actually scared of dying.

Anyway, tapping the fire button with the mounted MGs works better than holding it down. They aren’t as good as an assault rifle, but the advantage is ammo. The other advantage is that they do give you some cover.

The mounted MG over the bridge on Resort is very important, in my opinion. Snipers up there are a pain too, but they eventually have to reload. It makes that section of the match interesting, since you basically have to countersnipe or send someone up to take out people on the MG or snipers in order to plant.

I kill just fine with it. The trick is to burst fire it. I never hold down the fire button. Always tap it. This gun is as accurate as a sniper rifle I swear, when you do that. I hit people through tiny cracks while behind cover, with the gun.

Trick is angles. Its all about the angles you put the turrets at and burst fire the MG nest.

We need to discuss this at the next Engineer Union Meeting. Scheduled for tonight at 9pm EST.

Exactly, wish they kept stats for using it. LOL actually at times I wish it was less accurate so I could hit bigger groups.

Been biting my tounge on this one cause I just want to blurt out to learn to explicitive play the explicitive game and give things a long hard try before throwing your hands in the air in frustration and go complaining on internet forums about it.

But seriously chances are you are just gonna find out youre impatient, just not getting it and needed some advice, or that youre the only one that feels the way you do when it come down to those that have any kind of credibility or understanding of the topic at hand. Sorry just had to put it our there, so many threads like this poping up every day now and had to say something.

i like you already.

If the MG nest were more effective, the chokepoints would be even more of a nightmare. There is an MG nest that faces the ramp on Aquarium. And the Agent must pass a foot away from it. You guyz are crazy with some of your wants. Be careful what you wish for, as the old saying goes.
