Why am I kicked from every server I join?

(Ranstaton) #1

I installed the patch and now punkbuster kicks me every time I connect to a server…

(Majin) #2

You are most likely joining servers without the patch, or thats my guess. im not installing the patch untill shrub updates for compatibility.

(Mr. Chris) #3

Erm…where do I get the 1.01 patch again?

(rp_guy) #4

this is happening to me as well

running:
intel 2.4c
ati 8500 w/ cat 3.7
sound blaster live
logitech mx500
windows xp home

edit: i was just able to play 2 minutes, and the only thing i changed was that i had compatibility mode on for windows 98/me.
then i got kicked “for unknown reason”.

(ichiban) #5

 The same thing is happening here. What is the deal?!? Maybe we should try joining a non-punkbuster server. Frustrating stuff. kicked for “unknown reason” after connection inteurupted. Grr…

I dont know,i just wanted to post some smilies

I have also installed the patch but I have always been able to play on the servers. Without (PB) problems.

Haven’t played in a few days tho, maybe PB changed some settings.

Edit:

ignore all above, didn’t see v1.02 was released yet

Just to clarify why people are having problems…

The new patch makes changes to the connection protocol between the server and the clients (i.e. you, the player). Therefor, the server and the client must be running the same version of the game. If the server has not updated with the patch, then you cannot have the patch installed if you want to play on that server. This is probably the problem for those folks who have installed the patch and cannot connect to servers.

I recommend checking the server names and look for ones that say v1.02 in the name. I read elsewhere in these forums that |FAST|BeerGarden is running v1.02. The other option is to uninstall the patched game and then make a new install with the old game. There may be some delay with servers updating to v1.02 since bani and shrub have not had an opportunity to update their mods to the new protocol yet.

As for the v1.01 patch… this was a server-side patch only so you do not need it as a player. However, I think the new server patch includes the changes made in v1.01 so even if you wanted to run a server you would only have to install this latest patch. I could very well be wrong about that so don’t rely on that statement for guidance.

As stated on rtcw.jolt.co.uk the new v1.02 also includes the v1.01 patch.
By the way, I installed the v1.01 patch the day it was released, even though I never host games. But it couldn’t hurt

Finally, if you want to be sure you get no server problems, install The All Seeing Eye, update it and check the v1.02 box. That way, you’ll only see servers that are running the v1.02 patch.

A friend had the problem Ranstaton is describing - when he’d installed the patch, punkbuster would kick him after a short time from a server which also had the patch (the SD server, actually).

He solved it by manually updating PunkBuster.

(Ranstaton) #11

I thought that it would only show your version of the game? The size of the list sort of made me think that since it only had about 20 servers on it.

I was playing fine on a server for like 5 minutes, then it kicked me off and any other server I joined kicked me after a couple seconds.

I will try updating punkbuster, see if that works.

(Cain) #12

I’m running 1.02 on my server Drop by and check it out…

Cain’s Lair v1.02
63.113.48.60

– Cain

(Vink) #13

I keep getting kicked for unknown reason since I tried the patch. I’ve reinstalled twice & i’m still getting kicked sometimes after 20mins on the server

(Dawg) #14

See Miles Teg’s post. This is probably a PB thing.

It’s not backwards compatable… :frowning: So if you still got the WolfET zip/installer, you got to reinstall. If you don’t have that (like myself) you gotta redownload/reinstall. Pain in my ass. :bored:
