to put development into perspective…
Took Square-Enix 5 million copies to break even on Tomb Raider (estimated £60,000,000 dev cost)
Bungies Destiny is rumoured to have already cost $500,000,000 in development
The fact that Splash Damage also have/had Warchest, I can only see 2 reasons why they would have gone with Nexon.
1, Flat out great deal… More money than they believed they would realistically make alone.
or
2, They started to run short on money. Because from a purely business point of view, You would not choose Nexon over Steam with Workshop support, VAC, User Base and much more… Unless on the flip side there was a risk you would never finish the project.
Hey… My 2 cents :D
I don’t think those are good examples, they both have their own game engines which are time consuming & costly to develop + different business model. Also SD doesn’t solely work on DB (Batman, RAD soldier, unannounced PS4 title). I don’t think money is the reason, at least not a lack of it that “forced” them into this deal.
