Who would like to see Friendly Fire turned on in public for a while?

(PixelTwitch) #1

So I know that this has popped up a few times but after watching the recent draft matches, It has sparked the question in me again.

I would personally like to see friendly fire turned on in public at least for a couple of weeks.
See how the spam nature of the game is toned down, see if there is any bugs laying undiscovered and overall just mix things up a little bit.

(Glottis-3D) #2

this is the only right way. FF ON.

(Szakalot) #3

Yes,we need this.

I recalled how spammy W:ET could get without friendly fire.

Its really silly how you can abuse the current setting, now that different abilities got buffed.

(Mustang) #4

Does it really need to be asked again?

The poll always returns a resounding yes…

We will definitely be having friendly fire on in certain modes, however we need to do the work to punish griefing/griefers before we open it up to the public.

I know nearly everyone here is a ‘good egg’ but all it would take would be one person to come on and ruin it for everyone.

The current proposed behaviour for default servers is:

Public Game Modes - FRIENDLY FIRE OFF
In modes where the public can drop in and out freely, there should not be any friendly fire at all to prevent hit and run griefers

Ranked Matchmaking Modes - FRIENDLY FIRE ON - Anti-griefing ON
In modes where random players are brought together to play as a fixed team, we should enable friendly fire but enable several rules to prevent griefing

Premade Team-based Modes - FRIENDLY FIRE ON - Anti-griefing OFF
In modes where the entire teams are pre-made parties or clans, we should enable friendly fire without the anti-griefing rules

Initial anti-griefing behaviours would include things like damage reflection, victim complaints and triggered vote kicks with ‘leaver’ punishments.

Sounds good. I understand the griefing point; it does feel like having FF on would promote teamplay, if for no other reason than because you now have to actually consider your teammates in SOME way.

(ailmanki) #7

Damafe reflection is a bad idea - allows for a whole new level of griefing. better count how many bullets hit enemy in relation to how many bullets hit teammates.

(chippy) #8

Would definately like to try it. This does mean that me and funky can never again be on the same server with the amount of mollys he keeps throwing into the back of my head…

(montheponies) #9

We’ve dealt with griefers in the past this is really not that big a problem to resolve and doesn’t really answer the question as to why all the public beta testing is taking place on FF Off servers. Surely the entire balancing of mercs is taking place with artificial feedback as we all spam the **** out of the map?

Personally I wouldnt have any FF Off servers at all, especially as it has been stated that you dont want the Ranked SW match (/comp) mode to differ from the stock Obj (/pub) mode.

However for the time being, why not work on the following principle for the current Beta servers;

SW - FF On
Obj - FF Off

It further differentiates the two modes, albeit I think we’re pandering to say that people find it difficult to play nowadays with really hard concepts like, dont shoot your teamate.

We plan to continually evolve and balance the game well after Open Beta and Release. The current gameplay values will likely drastically change when more players come on-board.

We’re not here trying to achieve perfect end-game balance right now as that will come a lot faster when more games are being played in more controlled environments (ranked matchmade 5v5 stopwatch) and with a larger, more varied player base.

What we do at the minute is try to make sure the game isn’t totally unplayable so we can test the features and Mercs as they come online.

(Smooth) #11

This is changing, we do want the pub/ranked modes to be distinct where appropriate: Friendly fire, spawn times, match rules etc.

It does REALLY help to keep the game consistent wherever possible so all players can relate to high-level player and aren’t scared to jump in. However some things do make sense to differentiate as the players will have different needs & expectations.

(prophett) #12

NO damage reflection
NO kick after X amount of team damage

Just let a regular in game vote kick handle it

(Glottis-3D) #13

what is wrong with complaints after TK?

(Sun_Sheng) #14

Yes and no. I want it on asap, but I think there’s a couple of things to be addressed first. Feedback for when you’re hitting your own team needs to be improved as currently it feels a bit vague. After that, medics need to be tweaked with more health so that they’re actually useful. Turning on ff will most likely mean more dead people screaming for a med and it’s currently difficult to get even one revive in without joining them.

Next up on the consideration is that there should be no, repeat no, penalty for killing your teammates except by vote with a minimum 60% Yes vote before kick. Nothing more annoying for a med (well, many things actually but it doesn’t sound as dramatic to say that) than to get kicked for TK revives. Having said that, the med again needs buffing so that he can do a TK revive and give out more than the bare minimum health with the defibs

(Sun_Sheng) #15

In mid-firefight it can often be quicker and more expedient (at least it was in ET) for a med to do a TK revive. On clan servers it wasn’t a problem, but do it on a not so clever pub server and you ended up getting vote kicked by nabjes. Most annoying for the med doing his job :frowning:

Oh thank jebus! I can’t even pub right now the balance is so our of whack!

(MrFunkyFunk) #17

I don’t remember any griefing at all last year when we had a server with FF ON.

All the balance plans & official excu … explanations aside, it will make some people more willing to start the game again as they won’t land in SpammyLand when they join that server.
If testers are happy and feel like playing the game you will get stats going the way of your ECHO buddy.

At least since this time the poll was started by PixelTwitch we got some dev attention but I’ll bet we won’t see it anytime soon.

And yet I’m the only one that dies in the process. There’s no justice down here.

(Szakalot) #18

vote yes on FF on in SW servers.

Or one SW with it on, one without? People want to play with it : )

(Domipheus) #19

Agree, put it on a SW server, may get more folk playing on them!

Requesting this since Alpha.
