Who wants events NOT based on RNG?

(cordovanJive) #41

It’s not about the cosmetics. It’s about the fact that you could play for 24/7hrs a day and still run the risk of getting jack-sh*t.
Don’t play 24/7 for the express reason to get some cards… Just play because you want to play.

The shitshow on the forums at the end of the event was among the absolute most pathetic things I have ever seen on any gaming forum.

Playing the game does not entitle you to anything. It is not a job. It is not work. It is RECREATION. You are not owed anything at all.

In fact, you would actually be the one “owing”, as in the money SD is spending on the servers you play on, and the dev costs for updates.

People acting like it’s impossible to get CW cards is hilarious. Believe it or not, you could spend a little over $20 on the game you’re playing and, woah, get a GURANTEED CW card!

Oh wait, half the community would rather play for 72 hours straight and then whine when they don’t get one. It’s like me playing Mario Kart for three days and then bitching when I haven’t been paid for my time.

Maybe I’m just an asshole, but some people need to take a good hard look at their entitlement issues. You should be playing this game for fun, not to get a silly skin that you could just buy if you want it so bad.

Let SD do what they have to to keep the game alive. And Christ forbid anyone thank them for the bundles, double creds and 30% discount!

EDIT: As an additional note. The business model is rng. That is how this game is geared to make money. Selling mercs is great, but most dedicated players will just end up earning credits for them. What people will likely pay for is the rng cases. You will likely never see a DB free from RNG because, as I said, it is their business model.
Just because it’s their business model does not mean it’s the optimal business model. A different model might be something like League of Legends where people can earn lots of stuff by playing but people pay cash for things like skins. Also, instead of having RNG loadouts people buy blank cards and buy what perks/guns will go in the cards similar to how someone might make a rune page in LOL. In this way, they could potentially charge more for each loadout because people are building it from scratch but they are taking out the RNG where people might buy multiple loadouts, thereby balancing their overall income while giving their customers a more enjoyable experience.

I do think there is a point though where someone has spent over a hundred hours playing in an event to get nothing. There were many people who simply couldn’t get a drop from the CW event. Those players have a very strong negative experience from the CW event, and there were quite a few.
@Sniff Yeah, I do definitely agree on that point too. Everyone should be able to feel like they “earned” something, because that’s one of the biggest incentives to keep playing in a lot of F2P games - they can be “grindy”, but the player should always feel like they accomplished something. The only problem is I’m not sure that can be applied to the CW event… :s Because the whole point of the CW skins was for them to be “premium” and nothing more.

The only time I’ve ever seen premium skins be given away in a F2P game is in Dirty Bomb, which is kinda why I’m a little blown away by the amount of negative feedback. There may be fault on both sides - RNG isn’t the best method for events, but expecting something for free isn’t the way it works either.

Certainly a very tricky predicament :s
This if F2P. Premium should also translate into play time. The core concept of f2p is player base is money. The longer and harder you get your players to play the more likely and often they are to spend money.

I think Splash Damage overlooks this sometimes. RNG is fun for those willing to pay but there is a significant portion of the community who pays with their existence on the server. That is valuable.

Large playerbases are important for free to play games. In large playerbases there are people who put in crazy hours but won’t spend a dime. These players are just as important as people like me who put in crazy money. Who else will fill servers for me at 3am EST?
Exactly! People who don’t spend money shouldn’t be overlooked.
People who are helpful, making guides and youtube videos - all these players are important.
Of course cheaters and general trolls do not belong to this group.

This has been discussed to death. All I’ll say is that it isn’t a yes/no issue. RNG is fine. Too much RNG is discouraging and actually serves to dissuade some people from making purchases.

I would love to see a Dev Stream focus on the cash shop/marketing side of Dirty Bomb. It would be quite entertaining.

why they cant make an event like in cs go where you have youe missions ?

(watsyurdeal) #48

A random thought…guranteed event cases for a single mission that resets every day. These missions are nothing to scoff at though, and aren’t specific to any merc or game mode.

Get x headshots
Get x amount of bomb plants
Revive x amount of people
Get x amount of finishes
Get x amount of multikills

Just some ideas…

Similar to this, if the event is over multiple days, use your above idea and say “do the following before the weekend is over for a guaranteed case”.

This would also be a great way to teach newer players about the game… revives as you mentioned or maybe

“repair X points of the EV”
“Plant X C4 charges”
“Defuse X c4 charges”
“Play X matches as someone other than Vasili”
“Receive X xp points for defending the objective”

Precisely, it’d be a great incentive to get people to understand how to play the game better considering the tutorial is ass right now.

@ShotgunRagtime
I can guarantee you, with 100% certainty, that if you played for 100 hours+ in one weekend alone, in hopes of getting at least one good CW card, only to be bent right over by Nexon, for them to proceed to fuck you, you’d been mad too.

Now, a while back you made a post about you spending 20 dollars on Dirty Bomb, where the stuff you received was, improbable according to the odds, you were unsatisfied.
Now, let’s say you spent 65 hours on DIrty Bomb during the event, and let’s also assume you work in the US, for a minimum wage. You’d be making 7.25 dollars an hour, multiply that with 65 and you get 471.25.
In theory you spent 471.25 dollars on this event. If you had spent almost 500 dollars, on something Nexon had hyped up, without actually giving you the numbers, you’d be pissed too.
And this isn’t even taking into account that some people spent more time on the event, and get payed more than 7.25 dollars an hour, and you get people that are even more pissed off.

Now, as you might have noticed, it’s generally the same couple of people that make posts about the RNG and the event, because those were the people who got fucked over by Nexon the most, and they’re the angriest, and he most vocal about their opinion.
Do the people who spent time on the event, and were rewarded with CW cases, vooice their opinions as much as the people who weren’t? Hell no, because it was expected by people to get a couple of cases.

Rant over.
