Who uses a shotgun in Brink?

(1111) #1

In Brink you can choose from Mossington, which is semi-automatic and requires a Medium build, or Hjammerdeim, which can be used in full-auto firing mode and requires a Heavy build.

I’ve tried them both and no matter how hard I tried to like them, I always struggled to finish off one enemy with the few pellets I’m given at the time and every other gun seems just so much more universal that I see no point. Please note that I like shotguns in most other games I play and do well with them most of time.

Is there something I misunderstood or is there a way to use Hjammerdeim in your Heavy weapon slot without feeling stupid and actually benefitting from it? I gave a change for Mossington as a secondary in my heavy build but the damage is laughable at the best.

However, my views may not be the most neutral but I would still like to hear if someone has performed well with a shotgun and if there are any reasons it should be preferred over an SMG?

Mossington is my favourite weapon. Granted it’s a bit of a hit and miss affair at times when it’s not buffed, but otherwise it’s alright. Just gotta get used to baiting and lure tactics as well as avoiding areas with long ranges unless you have a decent sidearm.

Personally I don’t care for the shotguns either. The Hjammerdien does the damage I want, but as a light I can get hit with the first blast and still unload enough Carb bullets to kill them before they get off the 2nd. I’m hurt, but I’m alive.

The mossington just does not do the dmg I expect from a shotgun in a game based on my experience with shotties in other titles.

I wouldn’t really expect a shotgun to preform the same way as an smg.
I use both shotguns either for objective defense or flanking. Get close, add some slides and melee strikes if your fighting a few. If your fighting several enemies make use of the spread, a grenade and a shell or two can work wonders on a group (grenade shooting yeah).

I have a new love of shotguns after last night, and my experience with them last night directly contradicts yours, it seems.

I was playing Duck-Hunt last night with my heavy soldier… and I was wrecking the other team with this combination (Hjammerdiem + Mossington).

Granted, it was only truly effective in CQC, but man was it fun!

(Nexolate) #6

That’s how my experiences go.

Tbh, I still wish the Mossington would get either a damage or a range boost because atm I only really feel safe using it when I have an Improved Weapon Buff on it. I guess that’s the point though, if you boosted the damage any higher you could probably get some crazy range kills when combined with IWB.

Raises Hand

My heavy has wielded a shotty on occasion. Best suited for CQ combat or at a tight defend area like Sec Tow.

Gotlung+Moss= crying babies

Moss is great for close encounters and when you’re walking, it also works best when you’re in downed fire

When using shotguns you should know about the gamephysics.
Every pellet does the same damage no matter where it hits. There is not headshot bonus or foot malus.

You want to aim for the center mass and hit as many pellets as you can.

Downfire mossington is aboutly imba btw

The hjammerdeim was the only weapon i really enjoyed as heavy, but I play heavies really rarely

I might give them shotguns another chance but now it just seems we aren’t even playing the same game based on your replies

(Zanchile) #11

hjammerdiem is my heavy’s favotrite weapon. use it everywhere in combonation with the rhett

I want to like the hjammerdiem but I hate the three shot stop thing it does. I just find it a pain in close quarters when several players turn up after you’ve already shot one of their mates.

As for the Mossi, never really got on with that either but I saw some guy called Crazy Hippo destroying people with it today. Best shottie player I’ve seen so far.

(1111) #13

I still do not trust the Hjammerdeim but after using the Mossington as my secondary on Heavy build I kind of got used to it. I like to call it ‘Lifesaver’. Just use it with a Speedsling only.

Now on my Medium build it’s my main weapon and the Galactic is my secondary. You just gotta know when to engage to a fight and when to not and learn to jump in and out of the cover between pumping the shotgun.

heya Ceppy, my mate (Piercehead) pointed me to this post as we were playing against you and both of us were raging about you killing us all the time :stuck_out_tongue:

back on topic, the shotguns are both awesome. a lot of games have released lately where the shotgun is next to useless as the damage is pitiful, Brink sorted this as they are high damage but you have to get close and not miss. the hammer kills everything at close range - 3 round bursts = dead enemy. mossi while downed is funny as well

(Nexolate) #15

The shotguns they have in CoD make me cry.
Whose stupid idea was it to make the pellets disappear after about 10 paces?

Last night i played on security towers as security. We got the other team completely stopped at one point, and i flanked them non-stop and killed most of them with the mossington. So it does work.

(Unfurl3dRelic) #17

The trick is to disguise as the enemy and then be sneaky w/ the Mossington.

If it doesn’t work - go test it on bots. You’ll love the results.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #18

I want to know why for some reason the Mossington is better than the HammerDiem? it makes no friggen sense, I get really tired of getting one shotted as my heavy medic by buffed Mossingtons.

(AmishWarMachine) #19

My guess?

There has to be a trade-off for the Hjammerdiem being automatic versus the Mossington being single shot.

To add to that the Hjammerdiem has 12 shots and Moss 6, also when using the 3 shot burst you can do full auto or three single shots for higher accuracy before delay for next 3 shots (and still much smoother and faster then 3 shots from Moss). I have gotten some pretty good distance kills using the Hjammer and doing quick single shots so the recoil/muzzle climb doesnt take me off target. But on the other end the full auto 3 shot burst works get whenever close or panic shots after bumping into an enemy. Go around (any distance other then face to face) just full auto bursting people and have fun with only one shot ever being close to on target unless you start by aiming at their feet, gun def goes wild.
