Who ARE the Brink Community Leaders?

(Jess Alon) #101

My friend’s dad picks new games that way. Watches him play them and if he likes how it looks he picks it up.
Thank you, and yes - there was nothing Gamers Portal was trying to hide, it was all straight forward from what I read. I do hear this often though “It’s not what I expected” I’m not sure where the
miscommunication was, but in the posts it was directed towards driving competition with BRINK and informing people about BRINK. Maybe working on it I didn’t see the outside perspective, but I felt the execution for my thought process in the discussion went great.

On to better things now of course - The release  6 more days, few competitions coming along from Brink TV, PlayIGL, and a new addition today - CSN.

Along with another round table discussion as well - hopefully a bigger turn out for this.
The problem was that no one actually gave their opinion, a question was asked and a general answer was given, the only specifics anyone went in to was how they found things in other games. No one commited to an opinion, they just threw general commenly accepted obvious suggestions around until the question changed.

It seems there’s a consensus that “Community Leader” is not really an applicable term for a bunch of forum dudes who spend way too much time thinking about Brink. Community activists is probably a more apt description for guys who are very passionate/borderline obsessive about the game, and who want to share that passion with others by letting them know about all the little bitty details.

So, yeah, community activists, there’s a number of guys around here I think you could put that label on, and the names I’ve heard seem to be good ones …except for BMXer’s nomination, I think he is just feeling badly about teabagging me mercilessly last week

But as far as “leaders”, I do agree with everyone who said aside from you guys there’s not really any clear nominations at this point in the game (pun totally intended).

I’ve sent 6 attack-monkeys to Matt’s house to ensure forum topic titles from here on out omit the terms “community” and “leader.”

However… I want to bring this topic back on track:

One of the major reasons why he posted is because we’re planning a number of Brink TV events, ranging from weekly competitive coverage to periodic podcasts. For these podcasts, we intend to interview players, league admins, forum junkies, perhaps the occasional SD employee we can steal away, etc. and we want to do our best to get the right people on the mics. No more, no less.

Maybe a better way to phrase this topic should be: “Hey, if we do periodic podcasts on Brink TV, who the hell should we get as our guests?”

Can you dig it?

Just some fairly ok players with a sense of humour would do, i dont know what huge insights its possible to get from just chatting to people so it would probably most entertaining to just have some people talking about brink casually with some humour injected.

(dommafia) #106

Listen to some other podcasts about any other competitive scene apoc :stuck_out_tongue: You have to remember what brinktv is… Higher level conversation is expected, sure humor is good, and it will most likely be in there anyway. This is greasedscotsman we are talking about

ESPN doesn’t just grab any schmuck that is good at a sport from the streets, they try to get someone that has higher level knowledge of the game. Obviously NO ONE has that high level BRINK specific knowledge yet but there IS a bunch of people that have a good understanding of it from other games. Also not just comp related talk. There are people with a lot of technical non competitive insight knowledge (dark! <3, coolaguy) and people with interesting insights on gameplay (toka, nail, h0rse, etc)

People need to stop making this about “oh my god how dare you try and single some people out as the voice of everyone!” That will never happen even if that was the intent. Everyone’s bugger tastes different. This is about getting people that are more than likely going to give a good chat/interview/conversation than the average joe… at least that’s how I look at it.

Agree with Apoc
Someone that is entertaining and is happy to chatter away

(dazman76) #108

Random slightly offtopic comment - I loved the stuff you guys did for ETQW, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that for Brink  The community certainly benefits from having such dedicated and hard-working guys producing tutorial and commentary information. Although my internet connection at home sucks for high-bandwidth stuff, I’ll be watching as much as possible once it starts flowing. Looking forward to it guys!

Yeah but you need someone who knows their facts too. I could be entertaining in a chat log. But sometimes I have brain lapses and forget stuff even though I read almost every single article I come across.

(Whydmer) #110

I thought we were an autonomous collective?

ooh… look Dennis, there is some lovely filth over here.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #111

If you all want someone with skills then i shal formally nominate Hyrage. In fact he’s not posted in a while? Where is he? Probably busy winning tournaments blindfolded without any power supply to his console/PC.

(Linsolv) #112

When you’ve spent 3 years honing your skills with a 360 controller, you don’t need power to your 360. The power is in your mind.

(Mustang) #113

I sincerely concur, consoles are improve vastly when you pull the power chord

(Linsolv) #114

So… if I play a 5th interval I’ll get better at consoles? WEIRD…

(Nail) #115

only in combinations of 3

(bizznessonly) #116

The interviews definitely sound great. I’ll attempt to be skilled enough in the competitive scene to warrant one.

(Mustang) #117

Touché
