Which is a better priority

  • Carry noobs, but you’re not allowed to disconnect until the match finishes.
  • No odd number of players (recent joiners or leavers must wait for their equivalent)

I dont understand this query. So I voted first one.

How is carrying noobs related to disconnects? How long do you wait, if you are best player out there?

(K1X455) #3

Even veteran players disconnect/leave the match as soon as they realise the matchmaking has made a seriously stupid match.

Example:

Team Jackal (ELO total = 600)

  • Player 1, elo = 27
  • Player 2, elo = 29
  • Player 3, elo = 21
  • Player 4, elo = 53
  • Player 5, elo = 460

Team CDA (ELO total = 600)

  • Player 1, elo = 131
  • Player 2, elo = 110
  • Player 3, elo =129
  • Player 4, elo = 94
  • Player 5, elo = 136

But if you are great player and carry your team to defeat. It’s still possible to increase your personal ELO. Because your earned points (XP / match resistance relation) affect the outcome. You can compare this by playing twice with almost same teams, but there is different player with same ELO. The one who success better gets better ELO, than the other who had same ELO, regardless of carrying noobs. All it take, is do better than rating system predicts.

If people leave in middle of match, it will be much more difficult to calculate accurate win/lose/balance predicting system.

In DB, elo increase equates to a win (and consequently, a decrease is a loss).

The degree of increase or decrease depends on scoring position.

From the same example as I stated (MES = Match End Score):

Team Jackal (LOSS)

Player 1, MES = 2700, new elo = 24
Player 2, MES = 2900, new elo = 25
Player 3, MES = 2100, new elo = 16
Player 4, MES = 5300, new elo = 47
Player 5, MES = 46000, new elo = 459

Team CDA (WIN)

Player 1, MES = 13100, new elo = 134
Player 2, MES = 11000, new elo = 115
Player 3, MES = 12900, new elo = 131
Player 4, MES = 9400, new elo = 101
Player 5, MES = 13600, new elo = 142

I don’t really understand, neither are a good idea, unless I’m missing something.
They’re public matches, people can come and go as they please. Adding in shit like “you’re not allowed to leave” ruins the whole point of casual. In ranked sure, but it doesn’t even matter since no one can join in ranked or leave without a penalty anyways.

Besides, it’s not really an issue anyways. Players join so quickly that any one player imbalance is usually over in 30 seconds. And if a match is really that bad, that’s why shuffle exists.
Also ELO has nothing to do with this since it’s not a factor in pubs at all. SD confirmed it doesn’t account for ELO in quick join, and server browser most certainly doesn’t either.

I’m sorry if I’m missing something, I feel like I am, but I don’t get why either of these options would be necessary

(K1X455) #9

Yes, it’s for Ranked. I think FACE-IT won’t cut the competitive match in the same way. Although the second option lends itself to the casual player as it just eliminates the one player advantage of the other team.

I believe Ranked needs an ELO overhaul as well.

(PariahDog) #10

For ranked anything other than full premades vs full premades is asking for problems.

As if people still try to understand any of the shit K6 spouts.

They do, unlike you

Will CMM ever make a return?
(Press E) #13

Is FaceIT getting a more drop-in approach or whatever? Cause I really can’t see that going very well, kinda defeats the whole purpose of building a ranked team

I’ve said it before and it seems I have to say it again:

Arpad Elo is the person who invented the Elo rating system.

ELO is an acronym that stands for Electric Light Orchestra, a rock band formed in 1970.

For some reason there seems to be a lot of confusion about this.
