Will CMM ever make a return?

(JonBongNoJovi) #1

As title asks , will CMM ever return to the game ?

I embraced CMM when it was added to the game as that was the direction the devs wanted to take , I’m first to admit it wasn’t perfect but atleast it made a effort to balance teams .

I haven’t played that much since it was removed in favour of community servers and with the release of 1.0 on the horizon want to get back into the game again but don’t want to return to server browser as it pisses me off with the unbalance / mass voting for shuffle ect. ect .

Problem with CMM at the moment is not enough people queuing that wait times and balance isn’t “good enough”, so doubt they’d add it back whilst the game is in it’s current state, if the playerbase increases a decent amount then might be a good time to ask again.

Maybe CMM can return as Ranked without a ranking.

They could run it through FACEIT too but just leave off the Ranked points part of it.

How could FACEIT solve the problems of CMMs past?

(Press E) #4

The devs said a while ago that they’d consider readding CMM and ranked if DB’s population grew significantly enough to support it. But with DB’s current population, CMM was about as balanced as the server browser most of the time, and ranked was just a pain.

(bgyoshi) #5

So how do we separate the players that want to play Ranked from the ones that don’t while offering a similar enough play experience so the ones that do want to transition into ranked, can?

(Press E) #6

Don’t ask me, just SD’s reasoning behind the removal lol.
Granted though, the players who actually do exclusively play ranked aren’t very common, so SD probably isn’t losing much from not having any comp system atm. And high level FF on community servers effectively recreate the ranked experience for most people, minus the stress of losing.
But FaceIT is coming pretty soon. Idk whether or not it’ll be ideal, I’ve never used it, but at least it’s something

I just wajt the flashy intro i like showing off my cards and seing what cards every one else is using and the stats screen should be reinstated as well. Maybe in 4 yrs when and if db still around and im the only player left they will figure how to add it

I much rather pick my own server to play. When CMM replaced Objective I disliked it and switched to Stopwatch instead.

(bgyoshi) #9

Yes but I mean when the comp system returns, with Ranked prizes, through FACEIT, how do you keep the non-competitive people that want the Ranked prizes out of Ranked, while still allowing them to get the prizes?

(HadronZodiac) #10

Lol yall shoulda seen the time i needed to wait for a ranked match…

50 minutes and counting

CMM is a failed system. Trying to match a pack of randoms together and hope you get a functional team is a recipe for disaster. At least with the server browser system when I get a team of recons and 1 medic on defense I can say “Nope, screw this.” and leave with no repercussion.

Matchmaking systems don’t work in team games, they’re more for single person teams like fighting games or chess.

You’re one of the reason why I made this thread.

(DarkangelUK) #13

IMO this is part of the reason why CMM didn’t work, SD didn’t fully commit. CMM required as many people as possible queuing at the same time to give quick and balanced matches, but since SW and OBJ servers were available in other regions then this didn’t happen. On average you could have 1000 people playing, but really only 600-700 or so were maybe in CMM globally. I’m not sure if all 1000 queuing would have helped any more but it certainly wouldn’t have hurt, but making an already small number even smaller certainly didn’t help matters.

(I was also one of those that preferred the server browser so I admit that I was part of the problem as well)

(PariahDog) #14

And I said my piece in that one. I wouldn’t touch ranked mode even with a stolen dick.

Matchmaking based on Elo rating doesn’t.

Matchmaking taking into account your skill in certain roles (medic, engi, combat, …), allowing you to announce the preferred role in advance, building teams on this information might work. Matchmaking that attempts to actually measure your skill based on certain actions might (use good plant locations, repair EV only to 95% on bridge in front of the barricade, …).

Probably we will never know because thou shalt bow to the whims of the mighty Elo rating!
