Its a demo recording of file of a q3a(Wolf/ET) engine based game. You can replay it in the game u recorded it
Then you will have to watch it back in ET, there’s an option on the main menu for “Replays” i think and all your demos should show up there.
When watching the demo you have the option to output to movie at different framerates. Basically this creates a LOT of screenshots you can then use Premiere to link all these together/add effects etc.
As said above, a demo isn’t a movie. Think of it as a dump of all the actions performed in-game, which the game can then recreate. In order to make a movie out of it, you can either go the “screenshot record” method (I forgot the actual name) and link them all together, or you can record it using Fraps or something.
Right, when you’re viewing the demo in-game, I believe the default keys for taking the screenshots necessary is F1-F5 (F1 being poorest quality to F5 being the highest, or most screenies per minute)…
Once you have done this, then with adobe premiere you can make these into a video… I forget the exact command because it’s been awhile, but it’s a pretty simple process.
Once you hae that, then you can edit what you want in those programs.

I think /cl_avidemo 10 was the trick to create a video out of a demo file (in this example it will write 10 screenshots each second). You should do this only during demo playback since its uses alot of CPU power. Visit also this site. It covers movie making for Quake3 based games. ET shows now an enhanced menu during demo playback at the lower right. You can use the F1-F5 keys instead of the cl_avidemo command.
If you want to create a video at 30 fps but your computer cant handle it, try running the demo at .5 speed and recording at 15 fps. This will get you 30 fps once the screenshots are compiled into a movie.
thx for help…
Now I try to convert my “ET movie file” to avi, I´m pressing F4(don´t know which quality this was) and take ss.
But my next question: How can I take a piece of a movie? Or How can I make pause in my recording and restart it later…
If you press F1-F5 you cannot close it down, beside esc.
thx for helping me.
:moo:
If you only want a bit of the movie, then the only thing I can think of would be to combine the screenshots and make the full movie first, then cut the bits you want with VirtualDub or something.
yes, thats one part of it. But I don´t want to convert many ss, takes alot of time and storage(hd).
I want in the movie take 5 sec here and 5 sec in the middle.
Of course I can wait when I want to take movie, and close it down. Start it over and take the other little movie.
Its easier with pause button, but if there isn´t I take the old way.
From the config:
seta demo_avifpsF1 “0”
seta demo_avifpsF2 “10”
seta demo_avifpsF3 “15”
seta demo_avifpsF4 “20”
seta demo_avifpsF5 “24”
Basically you press F5 to start capturing TGA screenshots at 24 FPS, and F1 to stop capturing. If you want other framerates you can type /cl_avidemo <rate> in the console as Ragnar said. Each image is 900 kB at 640*480 (>20 MB/s at 24 FPS), so you probably don’t want to record more than the good parts.
If you want a free program to make the video I recommend Quake Video Maker:

This is a nice guide to encoding:

thx…
I pressed F4…LOL. Now I know why I got from 2.5gb free storage to zero in less of 1 min.
