Where's The Brink Hype Machine?

(RoryGreen) #41

I have to disagree with you there. Infinity Ward are making these changes for the majority of gamers. It may not be what hardcore PC gamers want but it is great for the whole community. I have never been good at PC games and with all of the leaning and finding decent servers, I just found it difficult, annoying and slow. I am happy with the changes they have made because it will deliver an all round more fun experience (apart from mod tools - some of the mods were awesome!). As for gamesize, you don’t want more than 9 vs 9, it is a small map. Anyway, Brink is 8 vs 8 and that will be awesome (or at least I hope it will).

Anyway, lets end this argument and get back to the topic in hand.

Most of the members here are PC gamers, some also have consoles, but SD was founded by hard core PC gamers and modders. So to us what IW is doing is horrendous.

I totally support this I have not spoken to a single PC gamer that thinks what IW are doing is ok.

To be honest they should be shot for what they are attempting to do seriously PC dark ages anyone? No dedicated servers? P2P has never worked so why use it? no modding or customised content? No console to tweak cvars? no lean function? What were they thinking …

To top it all i don’t even like the COD series but i like PC gaming and i don’t want to see the industry going backwards so compaines like IW and Actvision can line their pockets.

Couple of weeks ago i read about this in the official forum for the game COD. It all looked like the wolfenstein forum, all were ranting about the game, basic word usage was limited to Fail, Epic Fail etc.
So there is a big change that MW2 won’t be a big sale after all, if community acts like that.

But about Brink i agree, wait till MW2 madness is over and in conclusion
i hope Brink will have a demo, try it before you buy it. (Not like i won’t buy it, but it is still good to try it out, while i wait for the game to get shipped here)

MW2 doesn’t have a demo either though.

Erm, a relatively unknown game compared to a well known sequel to one of the best selling games ever in an already established franchise, guess which one doesn’t need a demo to persuade people to buy it and which one does…

(zXSwordXz) #48

Ok guys, now that MW2 has been release and the cod fanboys are busy playing it. I believe its time for SD/Bethesda to start providing us with some more info about the game. Some gameplay would be nice in the coming weeks. I like to see things before I pass any judgement.

(tokamak) #49

Wait, let the media cooldown over the airport scene first.

(Ragoo) #50

When Christmas is over and everyone has played the Singleplayer the marketing should start  There is no point in promoting something now that you can’t get under your Christmas tree :stuck_out_tongue:
So I guess starting 2010 would be ok

(Ratwar) #51

It may also be worth noting that Bethesda is probably focusing on marketing Rogue Warrior and the Elder Scrolls Novel at the moment, as both of those things are due out before Christmas.

(tokamak) #52

And really, Fallout 3 had a huge hype as well. It was basically the MW of that time.

You hit the nail on the head there; indeed the christmas season is busy and expensive to market in, if you aren’t releasing in that season it makes little sense to advertise against games that are.

You only need to look at Bethesda’s amazing Fallout3 campaign to know that BRINK is in very safe hands

(tokamak) #54

Make sure you guys graffiti that little fallout dude on some containers in the game.

But Fallout 3 was a sequel. Launching a new franchise would require quite a different pedigree I guess.

Bioshock sold over one million copies on the PC, so that’s the number you guys have to beat

(DoubleDigit) #56

So Brink will launch long enough after the crappy COD (game for the idiot playing from couch and has the impression he’s some kind of a swat / super soldier and confuses games with reality) but no so far ahead of Bad Company 2 which even if I stopped playing Battlefield games a long time ago, looks pretty impressive, and it has medic class too.

(Pegazus) #57

I think that the point is to get away from reality, and get to fantasy yourself as a swat or soldier. Games are made for it, to get away from reality once and a while

But there is still time for Brink release

(darthmob) #59

They seem to have a different meaning for the word boycot than I have.

(engiebenjy) #60

Hahah thats brilliant! I joined a L4D 2 boycott group but have at least left it now I own the game

I have to say though that I am really loving iwnet, being a non-competitive casual gamer I find it better than having to scroll through a server list. I understand some of the hate towards IW but consoles do make up the majority of sales so…
