Wheel Scrolling Problem

(Swat) #1

Anyone else have this problem?

I usually play as a Engineer, so once shortly after starting I get rewarded with the binoculars. Here lies the problem…while scrolling through the weapon banks with the wheel, when I come across the binoculars they will activate imediately and I am a sitting duck because the wheel becomes a zoom feature then. I have to hit alt fire to lower them then quickly change weapon banks.

I don’t know how many times I’ve been planting a mine when the enemy comes up behind me shooting. I try to quickly scroll to the MG, but occasionally I scroll past the binoculars and its all over

(Kendle) #2

Moral of the story? Don’t use mouse wheel for scrolliong through weapons! :bash:

Other people less kind than me would call you a “noob” for using the mouse wheel. It’s much, much, better to use key binds, i.e. a button for each weapon, then you can switch between weapons directly without having to go through some you’re not interested in first.

Having said that, when you select binocs you shouldn’t be zoomed in. I’m not sure how it works for Engy though because other Classes use weaponbank 7 for binocs, but for an Engy weaponbank 7 is Landmine.

I don’t play Engy often enough, or use Binocs often enough, to remember how mines set-up. I’ll have to check my configs, unless someone comes up with the answer sooner.

Sorry man but anyone who uses the mouse wheel to aimlessly cycle through their weapons etc. is a pain in the arse to play with and often a complete joy to play against.

Don’t do it, play like a man does…with buttons.

(Swat) #4

I either improperly stated my question or both of you missed the point. I’m asking if this is normal operation for the binoculars to activate when scrolling past them or is this a bug?

(Kendle) #5

No you didn’t, and no we didn’t! However neither of us can answer your question because we don’t use the mouse wheel to scroll through weapons as it’s too inefficient.

One answer to your problem, therefore, is to not use the mouse wheel. Apologies for any offense taken, none was intended.

([=O=]SMYLER) #6

No idea, but is sounds like normal operation as real men purposely press a key to enable binos and then wish to zoom with the mouse wheel.

Little girls in floral dresses have been been spotted on many occasions by the authorities, rooted to a single spot, being shot by nazis as they look back at them through a set of field glasses.

Seriously though it does sound appropriate action for the mouse wheel to become the zoom function when binos are selected. I’d change my zoom “button” and would honestly recommend setting up your weapons etc. with buttons as well.

All the best man :drink:

(Swat) #7

none taken…and i have changed to several key scripts to avoid that situation. I am still curious however if this is a bug, problem with my comp or if the developers intended this.

Press weaponbank 7 twice to get your binos. Its like adren self for medics.

The few times I’ve used the scroll wheel to select weapons I haven’t seen this behavior. But, yes, you should use the number keys or some other script to select your weapons. Waiting for a revive while the medic shows you all the stuff he’s carrying is incredibly annoying, especially when he gets capped because it took him far too long to get to the needle. =)

I finally sat down for a couple hours last night writing weapon toggles to get around this problem (I’m so damn lazy). So here they are for anyone else that is lazy:

[ul]//Weapon Assignments
//Multiple-Weaponbind Script Weaponbank Pistol and SMG
set w-bank3e “weaponbank 3; set nextw-bank32e vstr w-bank2e” //Activates SMG
set w-bank2e “weaponbank 2; set nextw-bank32e vstr w-bank3e” //Activates Pistol
set nextw-bank32e “vstr w-bank3e”
bind DEL “vstr nextw-bank32e; set nextw-bank51e vstr w-bank5e; set nextw-bank67e vstr w-bank6e”

//Multiple-Weaponbind Script Weaponbank Pliers and Knife
set w-bank5e “weaponbank 5; set nextw-bank51e vstr w-bank1e” //Activates Pliers
set w-bank1e “weaponbank 1; set nextw-bank51e vstr w-bank5e” //Activates Knife
set nextw-bank51e “vstr w-bank5e”
bind PGUP “vstr nextw-bank51e; set nextw-bank32e vstr w-bank3e; set nextw-bank67e vstr w-bank6e”

//Multiple-Weaponbind Script Weaponbank Dynamite and Land Mines
set w-bank6e “weaponbank 6; set nextw-bank67e vstr w-bank7e” //Activates Dynamite
set w-bank7e “weaponbank 7; set nextw-bank67e vstr w-bank6e” //Activates Land Mines
set nextw-bank67e “vstr w-bank6e”
bind PGDN “vstr nextw-bank67e; set nextw-bank51e vstr w-bank5e; set nextw-bank32e vstr w-bank3e”

//Resets to SMG, pliers, and dynamite
set resete “set nextw-bank32e vstr w-bank3e; set nextw-bank51e vstr w-bank5e; set next-bank67e vstr w-bank6e”
[/ul]

Need to give props out to RTCW 4 Dummies for all the information on writing these.

(Kendle) #10

PGDN is no good for Binocs when Engy tho’ cos it only toggles Dynamite / Landmine. As Rippen points out Binocs is weaponbank 7 pressed twice. You’ll either need a key bound to “weaponbank 7” only (press once for Landmine, then again for Binocs), or you’ll need a key bound to “+zoom” which will also give you Binocs as Engy (in both cases only once you’ve been rewarded with them).

As for props to RTCW 4 Dummies, I don’t think you spent hours writing those, I think you spent minutes copying and pasting Iffy’s pre-written scripts (this link probably).

(Swat) #11

dude, whatever…obviously you didn’t look very closely at them. I’ve changed around the bank toggles like I share pliers with knife (instead of pliers with dynamite), and Dynamite with Land Mines (instead of nades with land mines). I’ve also changed the base weapon choice for each toggle. It may seem like a cut a past to you, but I have little experience with script writing and learning what each command does takes some time. Also there is an error on the Engineering weapon script posted on the RTCW 4 Dummies. Do a cut and past and the toggle for SMG/Pistol won’t work.

I started a thread awhile ago about how nextweap scroll wheel players were the scourge of et. definitely have all your weaps bound to seperate keys - no sense scrolling thru everything and the kitchen sink and getting killed in the process

: )

([=O=]SMYLER) #13

Yeah but even though it made a lot of sense we all ignored it as we hate you and you’re from a very rude family, there are also rumours about your dog and the old lady next door :eek: .

(SCDS_reyalP) #14

Which weaponbank is the kitchen sink ? :poke:

I suspect the problem with scrolling past binoc is the fact that using weaponcycle for zoom is the default. So you scroll to the binocs, ET realizes it is now on a zoomable item, and zooms for you instead of going for the next weapon.

The solution is simple.

  • Don’t use your mouse wheel to change weapons
  • use B (or some other key) for your binocs

For myself, I unbound weapon change from the mouse wheel, and use it only for zooming.

DOn’t be thinkin’ yer all clever an’ shit like that man, I said that stuff before you did !!!

:poke:

(RocketGrrl [SWE]) #16

Oh I think the mousewheel can be used for toggling weapons, when you are used to it you always get the right stuff out in no time. But since acquiring Adrenaline Self or Binos as Eng gets everything mixed up I modified Ifuritas toggles to this:

//Syringe-Packs toggle
//Airstrike-AMMO toggle
//Pliers-Dyno toggle
//Smoke-Satchel? toggle

set w-bank5 “weaponbank 5; set nextw-bank56 vstr w-bank6; set nextw-bank234 vstr wp-bank3” //Acti.Syr.nextPacks
set w-bank6 “weaponbank 6; set nextw-bank56 vstr w-bank5; set nextw-bank234 vstr wp-bank3” //Acti.Packs.nextSyr

set nextw-bank56 “vstr w-bank5”

bind MWHEELUP “vstr nextw-bank56”

//SMG-Gren-Pistol toggle

set wp-bank4 “weaponbank 4; set nextw-bank234 vstr wp-bank2; set nextw-bank56 vstr w-bank5” //Act.Gr.nextPis
set wp-bank2 “weaponbank 2; set nextw-bank234 vstr wp-bank3; set nextw-bank56 vstr w-bank5” //Act.Pis.nextSMG
set wp-bank3 “weaponbank 3; set nextw-bank234 vstr wp-bank4; set nextw-bank56 vstr w-bank5” //Act.SMG.nextGr

set nextw-bank234 “vstr wp-bank4”

bind MWHEELDOWN “vstr nextw-bank234”

Note that I made it so UP while carrying weapon always gives Syr/Plier/… and more importantly DOWN while carrying specials always gives SMG/Rifle/AK. Mines have to be put on another button though unless you want to include it in the Pliers-Dyno toggle. [/b]
