Whats wrong with F?

(Litego) #1

Seriously I dont get it. Whats so wrong with having all actions bound to F? Whats wrong with buffing people and capping CPs on the same button? I dont understand why we need to separate them. Its not like it will be more skillfull to use F for buffing and G for capping. Its not like it makes any difference at all except for convenience. Whats the deal?!

Did a reply to an existing thread deserve it’s own thread?

(Litego) #3

What thread? I see people whining over F in many threads and I just dont get it.

I think it’s been explained at length, by lots of people, but as it happens to be a big bug bear with me I’ll bite :-

I’m a Medic, I attempt to revive a team-mate who’s been killed near a command post, I approach the player, press F … and I’m dragged to the CP, class wheel comes up, I find myself suddenly a different class, so I not only didn’t I revive my team-mate but I’m also the wrong class and I’m dis-orientated cos I’m facing the wrong way.

We need someone to complete the objective, there’s seconds left on the clock, the objective player arrives but gets shot, I go to revive him … I’m dragged towards a team-mate on 90% health cos he’s a few cm’s closer and the game has decided to buff him, the objective player doesn’t get revived, we lose.

The F key is all about the game making decisions for you, and getting them wrong, because it’s a piece of software, it doesn’t have human intuition, it can’t make split second decisions based on the relative importance of those decisions.

The F key has to go, simple as.

Well, if i play as medic i hate to have to choose a buff with the number and then have to press f.
Just holding the number to use the buff would be much easier,
same with grenades.
For placing mines and turrets i think the way it is is fine.

Also, if i want to revive someone who lies in a corner with another teammate crouching over him for cover, most of the times i have to buff the teammates health, before i can revive him.

I’ve most played soldier so maybe thats why it doesnt bother me. But basically it will do what you aim at, so its just that people are annoying and run past you when you try to revive people? Ok I can understand that being annoying.

Oh yeah I found the grenade thing confusing at first, and then just a waste, why dont he throw my molotov when I press Q? Thats totally unnecessary, they should fix that. If its the same with medics and the F key then F has to go.

Dude why create a brand new thread… just reply in the thread with that other idiot raging about the fact its too difficult to press one button for everything.

(Litego) #9

I dont know what thread you are talking about.

(howie) #10

It takes control away from the player, which is never a good thing.

(dazman76) #11

The sticky “Brink PC Feedback” thread - this problem is the main topic of discussion in there, pretty much.

(dommafia) #12

Yeah, that’s it.

It is not about removing the F key function. It’s about giving us the option of a more PC like control scheme from their previous games. How that would interfere with anyone else that prefers F key function is beyond me.

(jotun) #13

My hand already has to be a Twister pro to play this game

(dazman76) #14

I love how anyone who doesn’t share your own opinion, is an idiot. Direct, and to the point. You’re a very open-minded chap/lass, you know that?

(shirosae) #15

Imagine that instead of pushing individual buttons on your keyboard/mouse for each individual action you wanted to take, you instead had a virtual keyboard on the screen, and you had to aim at the keys with your mouse and push one key to hit one of those virtual keys to activate your individual actions.

Now imagine that the keys are moving whilst you’re trying to click on the one you want, and sometimes they overlap, and the game guesses which key you wanted to press, and often gets it wrong.

Some people want their keys to stay on the keyboard so they can use their fingers to do what they want, when they want, instead of having the game guess for them. Hope this helps.

(Protector) #16

Someone who finds it difficult to press one button for EVERYTHING is an idiot, it has nothing to do with being small minded (but yes i’am :))

(jazevec) #17

Six buttons should be enough for everyone. Oh, the sense of entitlement of PC gamers…

(dazman76) #18

The point is, you’re missing the point  Can’t you just think about it just this once? Nobody said it was “difficult” - that’s your own (very poor) interpretation of the point being made.

If I try to revive a downed team-mate, but at the last minute someone with 95% health steps in front - they get the heal, and the downed team mate is still down. If I only had one pip left, they’re staying down - and that could lose an objective. If I could press one button for revive, and another for buff - this would never happen. Ever.

Please explain which part of that you don’t understand?

(sirius89) #19

Dumbed down console trash. That’s why.

Obviously a console mechanic cause they don’t got that much buttons.
F key is like X,B,A, or Y on Xbox(dont know which key it is on Xbox for makin a action).

Or lets say it the other way round, they were too lazy or didnt had enough time.

(Protector) #20

I never said I never understood anyones point and i’m more than capable of thinking thanks sweety, I just believe that you just need to be a little more savvy on how you go about things and one button will do the trick just fine… sure your argument is valid but its not necessary.
