Whats up with all the lag?

Whats up with all the “Connection Interrupted” in-game lag? I lag almost non-stop on every server I’ve joined. I have tried the cl_maxpacket 100 and com_maxfps 85 cvars and none seem to work. I am on broadband and my ping avarages between 30 and 80ms, and I don’t see how can I be lagging this bad. I have never seem so much lag, its pitiful.

Errr, where are you? What servers did you connect to?

I think you’ll find it’s just you…

Hmmm, you should ask the server administrator, or a member of the clan (if is a clan sever).

The lag (at last, of what i know) have 3 main reasons:

Your pc
Internet problems
Your Connection

  • YOUR PC
    Check Hardware problems, drivers issues, new programs installed, antivirus, process on background.

  • INTERNET PROBLEMS.
    Overloaded server (on bandwith or number of connections), People downloading maps from the server (or other stuff), Location of the server (how close or far is from your home).

  • YOUR CONNECTION
    Overloaded ISP, damaged modem or lines (cable lines, telephonic lines), type of connection.

I don’t think is none of the above. Happens in just about every server. Also, I have Q3 and everytime I play Urban Terror, I have the same problem. Other mods I have no problems whatsoever.

Edit: This is really pissing me off. I lag in just about EVERY server that I connect to. It’s not my connection nor my ISP. I play plenty of other mods and games with NO problems whatsoever. When it comes down to it, I can’t play the damned game!.

The fact that most other people don’t lag should tell you that it probably is your connection to the server, or your PC.
How often do you get CI, and how long does it last? I would recommend trying a non-PB server to determine if that’s the problem.

running antivirus whie playing? much else running in the background (check task manager) ?

try opening console and putting in
/cg_lagometer 1
/cg_drawfps 1
might help troubleshoot.
while your at it put 'net settings back to normal:
/rate 25000
/snaps 20
/cl_maxpackets 30
/cl_timenudge 0

Almost non-stop. I live in the USA, I’ve joined server that are not too far from my state and I get horrible, and mean horrible lag.

also, if you do /cg_lagometer 1, and you get the graph, what ‘bit’ of the graph is yellow/red? the opper part or the lower part?

Like someone said, it might be some drivers or something with your video card that doesnt comply with the actual game. Since your ping is low, you should check to see if its your computer not complying with the game. Try hosting a game on your computer… this will see if its the video card drivers or not because you are sure to have 0 ping… unless your computer really is that slow and it takes 10ms to communicate to its-self :wink: hehe
