Whats up just saying hi

(slayer7) #21

How can you possibly be so eager to play etqw when you have not played et? I don’t get it? It’s as old as the hills almost, free, available from every 2bit clan site in the world, and did I mention it was free? Oh right, yeah, I did.

Seriously, you probably played it by now, but etqw won’t be in the same catagory of game play as ET, quite simply because it is NOT free, and probably much more complicated.

Why do I like ET? Well, I didn’t to start with back in 2003-4, but as a result of my favourite game going to the dung heap, it ws the only fps around that was even close to the game I loved. It’s getting old now, so I am personally hoping some clever dick will work out some new stratgies for the way the game is played.

Oh, by the way, merry belated welcome time! And a happy new gear (you will probably need it for ETQW which has yet again been postponed) 8)

ps. oh crap, i’m a newbie too?

you said and i quote

My response to that is ive played FPS’s for years my FIRST fps was Q3A and was amazed at the game.Ive played tons of fps’s from Halo to DF2 to Q3A to UT to so,so,soooo many more.So i have you can actually say “been around the block”.Yes ill admit ive never played ET BUT i somewhat consider myself a game connoisseur & quite knowledgeable of FPS’s.I feel this is what BF2 and BF2142 should of been.Im very passionate about the games i play. & in all truthfulness IF & ONLY IF!!! Splash Damage wants this to succeed (meaning) if they will put the time and effort into it. (Like ive seen they have) AKA pushing the game back for (if i remember correctly), “sprucing the maps up” (thank you SD) This game WILL and you can take that to the bank succeed…So i think ive said all i needed to.I don’t need to play the game to not know about it.Reading,Hearing & just seeing is all that I personally need to comment on a game. & i will admit that ET does look like it is a very special game. & not only that but even if i never did play ET my first game was a quake game,So in my honest & personal opinion quake is also a part of this game.I personally picture this game “Half ET” “Half Quake” “I may be wrong” but as the name STATES (Enemy Territory: “Quake” Wars)So wouldn’t you consider the game half quake??

Anyways thats my opinion. & HOPEFULLY!!! I wont need to upgrade for this game. I run “Vanguard:Saga of Heroes” quite well so i think ill be ok. :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir:

Q3A, Halo, UT and BF certainly form a large chunk of the FPS genre.

However, did you play Tribes, RtCW or any fortress mod? Because that’s the genre ET:QW is aiming at.
It’s not Quake mangled with ET, it’s ET with the Quake storyline.

(Turbo123) #24

Ahhh ok i did play tribes when fileplanet had it for free D/L along time ago.It was fun but much out dated. “skiing as you call it” was a genius part of the game. But no never played RtCW or fortress mod.But question is,Is there a BIG difference between that and Q3A,Halo,UT,BF,CS,I mean all FPS’s have the same basics even all the different game types. But what ive been hearing and have seen of ET i will most likely be downloading it.

(kamikazee) #25

I’ll give some more info on why I think “FPS basics” don’t capture the feeling W:ET gives.

DM has only 1 goal: scoring as many frags as possible. That way, you’ll be either hunting other players or trying to stop the enemy from scoring frags. This is FPS at it’s core: point, click and kill.

More “tactical” game modes like CTF, UT’s Assault or BF’s Conquest modes added objectives. Here, the player only kills to keep himself alive and conquer certain objectives.

QW Fortress from years ago took immediately one step further by adding “team-based gameplay”. Now W:ET (and it’s spiritual ancestor, RtCW), Tribes and the fortress mods all mimic this classical mod in one way or another. The unique concept is in molding the objectives so they could not be conquered by one individual but only by a team of specialized players.
As a result, whole teams are on the move and the amount of player spread is reduced, resulting in more crowded fire-fights whereas DM has a 1 vs 1 nature.

(Turbo123) #26

oooohhhh so what your saying is ET was one of the first if not the first team game???From what your saying it makes me want ETQW even more because im all about the team play even Q3A had it to where 1 guy could take on a whole team in CTF and i personally think thats what makes games fail alot.Teamwork is a primary thing that is needed.BF2 had some awful teamwork which is one of the reasons i don’t like it.But yeah im hoping that ETQW is the way you explained it and it seems so far that it is.

(kamikazee) #27

Ehr, I think you need to read my post again. QW Fortress is probably the first team-based FPS, not W:ET.

(Turbo123) #28

Yes i have read it to clarify and i did say.

“oooohhhh so what your saying is ET was one of the first if not the first team game???”

I said that because of

“QW Fortress from years ago took immediately one step further by adding “team-based gameplay”. Now W:ET (and it’s spiritual ancestor, RtCW), Tribes and the fortress mods all mimic this classical mod in one way or”

You said it mimicked it so i immediately thought it was one of the first.

You’ll love ET (and I’m guess Quake Wars) if you want a game that focuses on team play. ET is the absolute best for that. I’ve played so many FPS I probably couldn’t name them all, but ET blows them all out of the water (imo). You have a feeling of acomplishment when your team wins instead of just being like “oh look at that I got a lot of kills”, as you would in the end of match of other games (this is me in COD 2). The class system in ET (as well as RTCW) really set it apart as well. Other games with class systems just give different classes a different weapon set, but don’t really make it so the classes have different jobs…

Just make sure to read the manual for ET before you start playing, as this will help you get used to game and game play a lot quicker… Like you won’t have to ask anyone “How do I get xp?”

I must say AWESOME,The way you speak about ET is the way i speak about the games i think are great.I am definatly going to try ET and i will read the manual

(kamikazee) #31

Also see Wolfenstein 4 newbies and especially W4N: New to the game?.

(Flesh) #32

Dont get yourself too excited, its not that great
Seriously, its good but theres quiet a few better fpss around.

And btw it doesn’t come with a manual.

yes, it does, complete with server section

(Flesh) #35

It does?

My bad

(slayer7) #36

Yes. It does Flesh! LOL@U-4 not knowing that. LOLsoHARD@That.

Turbo123, Get the game and patches, read some of the online documentation on setting up configs, pick a class (soldier-covert), and away you go. I was an Arena player too, so I am pretty sure once you play ET you will be an addict like the rest of us poor lost souls here.

Because you have experience in Q3A, I am guesing you will be no doubt fully capable of getting the best out of ET using the cvar tweaks you will find about the place.

Incase you are needing to find those instructions they are located in the “Docs” folder in the wolfenstein enemy territory folder.

It is not as fast as insatrail which I miss so much, but, like they said, it is a team based game. It does get a bit ordinary when the teams SUCK though, as i have been trying to explain in another thread. Thats a different story though.

Bottom line, ET is great, and probably will NOT be like ETQW, and is definately NOTHING like old DARK’s ALL RAIL INSTAGIB from oh so many years ago! Now go start yourself up and gamin in an ET server somewhere. Drop us a line with the server ip’s if you want some company or help ingame.

(moonShield) #37

strange…
Why do get threads like “a new way to play et” get deleted but “hi” threads stay?

(kamikazee) #38

Because this one is still on track.

(darki) #39

since when do the delete threads? :open_mouth:

(kamikazee) #40

Depending on how you look at it, they’ve never deleted one. The threads just got missing.
