What's the best "Brink entitlement" story you have?

(Ajax's Spear) #21

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve actually seen some of them use the (non) logic that the bullet damage setup is going to make Brink a game of “whoever can empty most of their clip first”… totally overlooking the fact that one or two-hit kills is basically a game of whoever sees the other guy first. I really don’t understand the gripe at all.

A lot of them complain about the realism of it, but how realistic is jumping two stories and breaking your fall with a slide?

One guy complained that the resistance should have worse weapon stats then security. But then in another thread he said that Security’s weapon stats are better then resistance. And that’s unbalanced so I don’t want this hypocritical game.

Another guy when choir of guns came out was criticizing that one of the guns had zero damage not recognizing the possibility of a MIN damage.

One guy is insistent that there be at least one plaid shirt WITHOUT ripped sleeved for resistance.

My favorite entitlement stories are the ones that involve guys that basically say they are sick of dealing with communities like CODs and Halo. And how Brink is going to be a whole new movement and this and that. And they are looking forward to the team work. And they can’t wait for COD and Halo fans to try brink hate it and quit. Like it’s their personal cool club or something.

And then there were those who made an account just to say ‘‘canceled my pre-order, no female models means my gf won’t play it, eat that SD. kthxbai.’’
Those were comic.

Yeah, and the irony of it is I’m not sure the community vibe is going to be any different at all, based on some of the stuff I’ve read on the forums from people. There’s already this constant douchey attitude from some people and between certain groups. Basically just a bunch of trash-talking that is more or less meaningless, but it still makes me not want to play with anyone beside people I know fairly well.

I love competition, but I like sportsmanship too. The game isn’t even out yet and I’m already seeing sore winners and losers.

I remember that guy I suggested we would all need to drink water and eat constantly to survive. =P

To below post V(Thats you)V Reminds me of the new Duke Nukem trailer!

Don’t forget the daily shower and the occasional visit to the toilet.

(MatthiasK75) #28

showers are over rated

(Ix LP xI) #29

Maybe for the resistance lol

(Ajax's Spear) #30

I doubt anyone is keeping too fresh on the Ark if they’re rationing drinking water, including the security.

Whatever amount of bullets you need to kill someone, it all takes the same skill. The amount of bullets does shift in how much that skill needs to be cognitive hand-eye coordination and how much of that needs to be tactical and planned. More bullets means you can ‘wing it’ and improvise while requiring more accuracy, less bullets means you can surprise and ambush as there’s less room for mistakes in movement.

So far the games that allowed a variety of toughness and fire-power in the game have been the most enjoyable to me. Instead of having to conform to one way to play, you can approach it however you want and see how you stack up against other expertises.

The same goes for movement speed and accuracy (and ironsights). The amount of skill doesn’t change, the type of skill does.

(Ix LP xI) #32

True. The same thing can be said about the guy who complained that SMART was a one-button thing. Instead of relying on “button-mashing” skills, if everyone can do relatively the same thing with relatively the same ease, it becomes a game of “who has the best battlefield awareness/intelligence”. Still requires skill, but a different set of skills.

youre in the middle of the ochin! just jump in!

One from the Bethesda forums: The game should be in Third person, otherwise what is the point in all the customization on our Characters?:stroggbanana:

(Ajax's Spear) #35

That would be a reasonable observation if the game wasn’t so geared for multiplayer, where everyone else can see you, and it’s important that you’re easily indetified. I remember reading an older Borderlands article where they (Gearbox) had toyed with the idea of more visual character customization, but decided to put resources elsewhere because it was an FPS. Since Borderlands could only support 4-player matches, standing out wasn’t as crucial.

Borderlands really let me down on a multitude of levels. They also said you would be able to “collect gun parts” and cobble together custom guns. And that never happened either.

Those are things they actually promised though.

I never heard them say that, and I frequented their forums like I do here now.

(Ajax's Spear) #38

Agreed. I followed BL pretty closely from pre-release until the last DLC. I think they may have used some language to describe how the Gearbot would generate guns randomly, which may have been vaguely similar to that, but I never saw them allude to any player controlled construction.

(Jess Alon) #39

It was eluded to in the original game informer article before there was even a forum. So I guess that’s not really a promise. But that was the big mechanic that I got excited about. Because I went to the site excited after I read that article in GI and couldn’t find ANY info of any kind. But it said that you would be able to switch out individual parts. Basically the system that “dropped” the guns in game is what it was. I wonder if anyone ever PC modded the game so that everything was stripped down to the bare parts so you could add different pieces of guns together?

(Ajax's Spear) #40

Absolutely. there was a program called Willowtree that allowed you to mod your saves, (guns, gun parts, levels, really anything) and it worked on all systems.
