What's bad about Dirty Bomb?

(Iceqw) #61

ok thanks for your feedback, but I just checked again, and it only shows 500 servers, without filters, not sure why…

(Amerika) #62

Did you miss my post? There is no point in having 1000+ servers online if there isn’t demand for them currently. They are brought up and down based on demand and over time Nexon/SD has figured out what they need and when they need it. So instead of blanketing potential demand by having over 1000 servers up at all times they can instead scale back. It keeps costs down and reduces the impact on all the servers overall.

I’d rather have 500 servers up that are performing well and being used as opposed to 1500 being up at all times and having performance be sketchy.

of course I know they should scale. actually they are scaling becouse less players playing…
we need a boost of fresh content and even modding allowed. new game modes, new and bigger maps.

game is great but people just get bored playing vanilla version

recently I was checking Cities Skylines, I know is not a fps game and all, but I wonder how they could have such a success, Is a small develepoment team just like SD, and I think i found the answer, modding was enable since day 1. People just make new maps, new buildings, everything. How does Dota born? by modding. Imaging making a new maps, I am not a modder but I know there are people with the skills, Imaging modding mercs and weapon. will you continue playing as much as you did when you started to play?

My biggest concern is the spawn camping. For the most part the game is pretty fun. The maps are decently made so that there’s always multiple routes to take to try to flank or prevent bottle necking. However, when your on a bad team and the opposing team pushes all the way to your spawn there’s not much you can do and it takes a game that was already not going to be fun and makes it 10 times worse. all you can do at that point is leave the game to prevent yourself from raging. There’s no way to fight back as trying to leave the spawn usually results in getting shot from multiple directions. There needs to be a mechanic to prevent the ability to push back.

I wrote a steam review, where I highlighted some of the problems that DB has, including performance issues, bugs and lack of polish.

So I’ll list here some of the other things, that I believe could be improved.

  • No rewards for matchmaking rank ups.
If you want people to stick with the competitive side of the game, you have to give them some kind of a carrot on a stick.
Sure there are cheaters in competitive, who don’t deserve to be rewarded, that’s a fair point, but what about all the legit players? What reason do they have to grind matchmaking games? There are no leaderboards, there are no special cosmetics for reaching high ranks, and you don’t even get to show off your competitive rank in pubs.

  • Very lackluster cosmetics, and still no way to trade down/break/sell/trade cobalt cards.
Cobalt was a big mistake, if you ask me. Blue recolors of skins, in a game where blue and red are the team colors?
I’ve seen an unlisted video from way back, where a bunch of cool looking player skins are shown, WHERE ARE THESE SKINS?

  • Oversights in map design.
There are too many maps, where you have prioritized small, unimportant details, over the flow of the game.
What I mean, is: little things, like when you blow up the cart on 2nd obj of Trainyard, a train door or some other weird hunk of debris is laying on the ground, and you can get stuck on it.
Heck you will get stuck on curbs on Terminal, and ammo crates on EVERY MAP.
You will get stuck on the oversized hitbox of the EV, you will get stuck on ramps leading to MG nests, and other things. You will get blocked by invisible ramps, like the one in the right side house of Trainyard 2nd obj (looking from def. side).
There are freaking gaps in the floor, in certain spots, that will eat grenades.
There are door frames that you will awkwardly bump your head into, when trying to long wall jump.
There are gates/borders/walls that should despawn upon completing a map objective, but you can still get stuck on them, momentarily, when there is nothing there.
After the Phoenix patch, I started getting stuck, when trying to jump on top of cars, I don’t know how you even managed that one.

God fucking damnit.

Haha, I tend to not really notice those issues much. I know the problem areas and avoid them to the point where I completely forget they exist. The maps definitely could use a LOT of touching up to fix a lot of the problem areas. I do get stuck on that damn curb leading out of spawn on the second half of terminal from time to time still.

Times like this is when I wish SD would simply let some people in the community have the maps and fix many of these issues.

Agreed. The community wants to help make this game great, but the tools simply aren’t provided to do it. It is all too locked down still.

The only real BAD thing is that kids who decide to que in another region end up with 200 ping and have a significant advantage. Anyone with over 200 ping and a slight amount of skill can easily dominate. I’ve gotten killed after I was WAYYYYYYYY behind cover. Pretty dumb IMO.

(Amerika) #69

Let me guess. You’re from Europe?

Uh, no. I live in California.

(Amerika) #71

I’ve heard that repeated a ton of times on European servers but never on US ones so I assumed.

You never get an advantage with a high ping like that. I’ve played many many hours with a 150-160 ping and with people who are higher and the game is playable but you have issues with kill message delays, trades and even things like wall jumping are much harder on a higher ping. There is no way somebody plays with a high ping and “dominates” because of it. If they dominated it’s because they are good players, saddled with a bad ping, playing a game that has client side hit detection and rollback features which allows them to keep up with lower ping players. Yes, more weird stuff can happen when you get in the 200 ping plus range but it’s not an advantage and it’s way better than them jittering all over the place like in almost every other game.

(MarsRover) #72

Yes, this is my personal pet peeve. I understand the process behind it, I know that bugfixing and game design are two different things done by different people, but this just sends the wrong message.

My experience with most anti-lag implementations is , that you actually do get an advantage having higher ping and knowing how to play with it. And in DB it seems even more markant. Where in W:ET the difference was really obvious between 50 and 150, in DB it seems already obvious at 40 vs 80. It’s like net limiters ftw lol

I play with 45-70 ping and up to 155 ping pretty often. There is never a time where I am playing better or getting an advantage because I have a higher ping. There are some rather large drawbacks. I recommend you go try it out yourself. It’s playable to the point where you can even have a decent match between Europe and the US (see the Dirty Cups and DB Nation matches) with players from vastly different regions on the same team. But they do not have any kind of an advantage. They simply have the ability to actually play against you which wouldn’t be possible in Wolf:ET and many other games. Hell, in early Q3 my only chance to play against players on the East or West coast was when I went to large LAN events due to having anything above a 40 ping put you at a severe disadvantage. Then the netcode got updated and it included some antilag tech and suddenly you could play at 80-90 ping pretty well (LG was still rough) and I could play against people who were from the US East and West coasts finally. It was pretty great.

Being able to play and do well at that ping doesn’t equate to having a huge advantage. It just means you have a chance at beating a player with a lower ping.

As someone who used to play CoD avidly (most notably CoD4), I see little to no similarity in comparison to Dirty Bomb. I do not see the connection.

Personally as far as simple changes to the core gameplay, I think the game is damn near perfect. They just really need to fix the aimpunch to create a higher skill-gap rather than the current randomization of bullets when you get hit.

People who are skilled in tracking and good with the weapons they use should be rewarded for it, not punished. Considering that most mercs have different speeds, this is of the utmost importance. Though the current aimpunch isn’t that bad since they toned it down, it still gives a slight advantage to whoever sees you first which is incredibly annoying.

Other than that I feel the game is great! It is fun, addictive, and I absolutely love it and will continue to play it for a long time to come.

However, If I am being a stickler I must be honest… I feel that the amount of mercs is ridiculous. Personally, the game play would benefit from just 1 or MAYBE 2 mercs for the Soldier, Medic, Engineer, Field Ops, and Covert Ops classes (If not in public, this should be evident in the competitive side of Dirty Bomb).

Speaking of covert ops, for the love of god bring back the one from ET. As far as actual stealth goes, the current covert ops “phantom” seems so useless. Then again, I probably just suck with him.

For a game with a high skill ceiling, simplicity is key. With all these mercs I am having a hard time actually seeing this game reach the popularity it deserves. Having something for everyone isn’t always the best idea. However, this could just be my bias toward Wolf: ET showing…

Useless Cobalt cards

Once theyve rolled badly theyre completely useless
Cant even delete them to get rid of them as the eyesores that they are

(stoutSoup) #77

Nah, he just sucks. He’s in reality an assault class and a poor one at that.

Which adds to my other con of this game

Mercs with identity crisis.
