What would you teach a n00b in Dirty Bomb?

(sgtCrookyGrin) #1

If you were to teach a new player how to play Dirty Bomb, do it in only 1-2 paragraphs of the bare minimum they should know when entering this game (they are familiar with FPS games, teaching WASD and ADS isn’t necessary).

buy vassili, and git gud while 360 noscoping everyone.

(n-x) #3

IF you play medic or fire support your abilities (healing&reviving/giving ammo) are at least as important as your gun. Use them to the best of your knowledge.

Dirty Bomb is a fast paced team based shooter so hip firing is very viable.
Play as a team to complete the uhb-jek-tivz as kills alone don’t win you games.
Accomplishing the tutorial and assault course is very recommended as it teaches you the basics of fulfilling the role you are playing.
A well supplied team is the key to success.

Last but not least you should know that any rarity above bronze is purely cosmetical and does not yield you any other advantages.
Now spread that knowledge, don’t be a dick and plaaaaaaay dirty!

If an engineer is already planting/repairing, protect them. DB isn’t pay to win as you might think. Remember that just because Aura/Skyhammer are free doesn’t mean they are bad. Heal people, give ammo, shoot things. There’s free rotation that will let you play as paid mercs and this way you can decide which merc deserves to be in your barracs.
And read @Kirays post

i will teach him to not buy vassili

(Your worst knifemare.) #7

Revive downed teamates as medic instead of trying to win a firefight vs 3 assalts.

(licoriceJacket) #8

The intro video sums up what they need to know…

Stick to the objectives.
Use your abilities.
Don’t be a dick. (Work as a team)
Shoot from the hip while moving, unless you’re ranged (Snipers).

I don’t really teach them how to play, because everyone plays differently. The one thing I do encourage them to do though is to buy an engineer before any one else and I run with them to work on the objective as much as possible. I just constantly pocket them and let them know I’m doing so to just teach them good habits.

It’s what I’ve done with every person I’ve helped including my friends, and I think it gives them a better understanding of the game. When they’re doing the objective I usually try to stick with them and I always voice what I’m doing like “You repair and I’ll meat shield you while covering the left side balcony” just in hopes that they will do similar things if they see someone else repairing later on.

I literally hate new players who just kill, and buy Vassili first pop and then do nothing but snipe until they’re level 15. Gotta drill the basic fundamentals right into them first.

Press E. If E brings up these two sparky things, then hold E for a bit.

Was missing a consonant, fixed for you

(frostyvampire) #12

Heal me when I spam “medic” and you are a medic
Revive me when I spam “medic” and you are a medic standing 2 meters away from me instead trying to 1v1 a sniper at long range with a Remburg
Give me ammo when I spam “ammo”
Rush B no stop

Walljumping is something you can do.
You run faster with a pistol, melee, or certain abilities out.
Cobalts aren’t better than bronze.
That yellow hexagon is the objective.
Objectives win games, not headshots.
Dome is the best map.
Vote for Dome.
Please.
You don’t need to use a heavy melee attack to finish people.

Um… that would raise Dirty Bomb’s age rating a bit

However I heard it the bloody first time. Stop spamming it. The more you spam it the less priority I place on you.
I am not going to jump across a crossfired street to get myself or us both longspawned
I am not going to approach you because your downed body is at the moment being used as lure by enemy Vassilli.
You decided to overextend or are simply in bad spot to rez and are oblivious of the fact, thats why I’m not reviving you, not that I’m stupid.

Regards: all the medics who know the difference between useless nursing heat and knowing when, who to revive / heal first.

Just a little counter paragraph for all the people thinking medics are their exclusive 24/7 lil’ pocket healers when they play suicide Proxy. Not directed at anyone specific, but the quote itself. I think it should be taught to starting medics too, they’re not doing wrong not crossing that Chapel street to rez the bottomscore back-at-the-lines Vassilli screaming medic for 56th time.

The most importan thing I think most people should do is study. Constantly learn. Try to figure out a new hardware setup and try new things. Try to do little things like walk around with your crosshair in a position to get an instant headshot. Make good decisions on when to push and when to pull back.

Mentally try not to waste time when you play a game and treat it as a way to always learn. Part of what separates player skill is a lot of people play to simply waste time in their lives. Good players, a lot of times, play to get better. So if your goal is to get better then mentally go in trying to learn something even if you’re stomping or if somebody is stomping you. Figure out why you got stomped.

Watch videos of good players and inspire your play through their play. There is a reason why professional athletes constantly watch video of opponents.

If you do these things you’ll pick up the game faster and you’ll retain your ability to play it at a high level even if you don’t consistently play since you KNOW what it takes to get good quickly.

(HunterAssassin5) #19
  1. play the tutorial
  2. play any other game first
  3. press E

My advice would be don’t get discouraged.

It’s a game that looks simple, but had incredible depth in the way you have to move and the small differences between each guns, map routes, objectives, etc.

I feel like a lot of people want to go in from other games and just be good, it’s not going to happen for the majority of people, as it takes a few games to grasp the mechanics and what to do.
