[drupal=771]What We’re Playing: Hello Spring Edition[/drupal]

Spring’s most definitely arrived and even though we’re getting more than averagely nice weather here in England, it’s not stopping us playing games. Despite that alluring New Game Smell being spread by all manner of great titles in recent weeks, it’s Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars that has featured in our lunchtime gaming sessions recently, joining regular fixtures Magicka and Mount & Blade: Warband. Magic, swords, guns, and aliens from outer space - we’re pretty sure we’ve got the entire range covered there.
But that’s not all! Find out what other games we’ve been checking out lately by venturing deeper into this latest edition of What We’re Playing. Oh, and as always, don’t forget to let us know what you have been playing in the comments. And begin:

It’s been a fairly healthy spring run so far - having finally picked up a PS3 at the start of the year my choice has grown by at least 6 titles.

So, let’s have a think - what I’ve played recently-ish:

On the consoles there’s been Uncharted, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, Crysis 2, Homefront, Enslaved, Force Unleashed 2, finally finished Dead Space, Dead Space 2, Castlevania Lord of Shadows, Demon’s Souls and I even went as far as giving NFS Hot Pursuit a go before I realised I’m rubbish at racing games and put it down.

Bad Company 2 has been the consistent MP of choice, with a few hours of Black Ops thrown in for good measure. Crysis 2 was a contender too, but my group have been struggling with the network issues it throws up and some general stability problems - we had one game where each of the players was slowly killed at random by nothing, turned into a spectator and renamed on the scoreboard… The host was one of the first to go and he crashed when the game ended.

Homefront MP seems enjoyable, but I’ve only rented it and so am stuck as level 5 unless I lay down the monies for it to get an online pass, considering the horror that is the single player campaign I can’t justify full price for it.

I’ve also been getting some vaguely regular play on (in the interests of transparency, my project) Hidden: Source - an HL2 mod that’s been quiet for a long time now (but there are plans afoot to bring it back to life properly). So my quiet periods at work have been me booting up VS and writing code again (hurray!) - though I have found a bit of time to boot up Knights of the old Republic to start another play through.

Scattered in amongst all that is lots of time with Tiny Wings, drop 7, cut the rope and speedball 2 on the iphone…

I’d say I play too many games, but I do it all for a valid cause (I’m the co-host of a manchester based radio show that revolves around vidja games), at least, that’s what I tell myself.

Was playing dragon age 2 for a bit but now I have the urge for a dungeon crawl. 2 games I’m dusting off are torchlight, and titan quest expansion immortal throne. These are like must have for anyone whos looking to hold on until diablo 3 comes out.

I have been playing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory on servers in Europe with a 230 ping. I miss the old days of full local ETpro servers…

I started playing Borderlands again with a new friend. I love that game, it’s like Easter with guns. Vanquish, which I’m sad more people didn’t play, is a platinum trophy in progress though I’ve been playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 most. I can’t get away from that game. It’s the first competitive shooter I’ve played where strategy and tactics are rewarded as much as hand-eye co-ordination. I’m treading water though. Naturally I’m holding my breath for Brink. I’ve been following your game for a while and I’ll celebrate it’s release with you online.

I just finished Dead Space 2 and was blown away by the production values throughout. EA sure has matured as a publisher. I never would have expected such a polished experience to come with an EA label on it. I enjoyed it at least as much as ME2 in a different way. Brilliant game!

And BF:BC2 - I finally got the last pin - the one for getting seven sniper rifle kills in a single round. Took me three rounds to get it. lol But when I did, it was with a single bullet double kill, about 20 feet from the MCOM base. My friends must have softened the disarmers, because when I finally got my shot off, it was a center mass spinal tap, and it still took both of them out!

It was a hootin’ and hollerin’ moment.

Wedgewood experienced an emotional response from heavy rain, huh?

I can just imagine his head cocked to one side, and tears bubbling from his eyes down to his chin.

And some snot action, too. Never forget the snot.

emotional response can instigate artistic response, watch for “Enemy Rain” or “Heavy Territory” on PS3 and Android

It’s pretty awesome to see such diversity in tastes amongst all the SDers. Your games can only benefit from that with all the various inspiration from all the different genres

123456789[/QUOTE]Since then us testers got a bit of a breather! So (naturally) I tried out the Imperial Guard in DoW: R and also started playing…

…Demon’s Souls [sic]

Anyone with a PS3 who is waiting for Diablo with bated breath MUST play this game. I really can’t recommend it highly enough.

Played a sample of QW:ET and reminded me of many a night with friends on resistance 2 class based coop and so on, but there different enough to not be the same. A good example would be to look at the medic class. But this makes me wonder if the multiplayer for resistance 3 will be more diversified or more like the team dm modes.

Found Anno 1404 for about £5, having only played 1701 previously which I loved I just bought it, really good fun although not massively different from the previous one. Still not got around to all the games I bought in Steam sale or in humble bundle…
