I want to say the medic, that seems to be least common from what I see in other games, what do you think will be the most underused class?
What the most underused class would be?
It won’t be medic. I think from what I’ve seen they’re regarded (correctly, from what I’ve seen so far) as XP machines.
I think maybe Soldier, if you can believe it.
Just going by what I see in the forums, I feel like it will either be Soldier or Engineer… and more likely Engineer overall. I plan on taking full advantage of all of the classes, personally.
If you think you could stomach it, visit the Bethsoft forums. For real, you’d be somewhat surprised. It’s all Medic and Operative in that piece.
I would guess soldier since any class can use any weapon. If you run out of ammo you can change guns or die and respawn. Competitive players have said they think operative won’t be used. Medic and engineer are the most important so it always feels like there aren’t enough of them.
That’s pretty much what I did in Wolf ET, but usually favoring medic. If I got annoyed enough I’d go engineer solely to use rifle grenades.
The Operative seems to be all about giving team advantages, in comparison to the other classes giving individual buffs and martial support. Operatives collect info, penetrate enemy lines, use enemy weapons against them, and generally expose weaknesses in the opposing team. They could be considered the “black mages” of Brink.
Veeeeeery interesting! I’ll have to try it out, can’t wait till this game is out! Wonder what kind of buffs…
Again, I encourage you (and anyone else that foresees Ops and Meds being under-utilized) to check out the Bethsoft forums. No shortage of either in those parts.
Everything there is to know about all the confirmed info on Brink, (somewhat) neatly organized into bite-sized and clarified bits.
I think it wouldn’t be right to speculate on which class would be the least played, those numbers are bound to vary from map to map.
Operative seems to be a harder class to play than the others.

Ok, so it’s like TF2 where the operative is like the spy! Sounds fun! But engineer seems just as good as well!
Hopefully it will be operative. It probably wont be, but one can hope.
I predict that one operative is all a team really needs, a single good one is enough to cause chaos for the enemy, and adding more just makes their disguises easier to spot. Even just picking a player at random, if there’s only one operative, chances of picking someone with a disguise is 1 in 9 (~11%); with two, that raises the chance to 2 in 10 (20%)
On the other hand, every other class can benefit from having 2-3 on a team.
Sadly, all signs point to a large majority wanting to be operatives, at least at first. Hopefully that number will go down as many players realize they just aren’t that good at it.
But since operative looks to be the most common, instead of the least, I’m guessing engi will be the lowest. People like explosives, doing damage, and throwing nades; so they will like soldiers. People are going to like being a medic now that you get the same weapons as everyone else, not to mention getting a ton of exp.
For actual importance, though, i think a team should have at least one of each minimum, I also don’t think that more than two soldiers per team will be needed. Their main purpose is handing out ammo, and hopefully two will be enough to do that (how often do you need ammo?). Medics and engis are where i would want the majority of the team. Medics for obvious reasons. Engis because they can help defense with their turrets and mines while helping offense at the same time with damage and armor buffs.
TL;DR
What I predict to be the average team:
3 Operatives
2 Medics
2 Soldiers
1 Engi
What I would like to see:
2-3 Medics
2-3 Engis
2 Soldiers
1 Operative
Uhh… no. To get a feel of what Brink is about, try out Splash Damage’s W:ET, its free too.

Very true. While I do see a lot of people aspiring to be operatives, I have a hunch that many will give up after not being able to execute the office very efficiently right away. We really won’t know for sure until a couple weeks after release, when everyone has sort of settled in to a MO.
Couldn’t tell you, as I’ve never played TF2, but if you’re looking for any other answers and also an additional community to be a part of, check into the wiki every so often. I’m an active member there as well; my tag is ConceitedJarrad.

Agree and agree.
Dang, on the poll on the Bethesda site it says 52% of people chose to try out operative first!
sigh The problem with the Bethsoft forums is that there is an apparent average age difference between here and there of about 10 years. The Operative enthusiasts on that forum seem to think that a Brink Op is really an invincible and invisible shadow warrior who will move like a bolt of lightning and sneak up on people and break their necks from behind. I have a feeling once they actually play the game and see that the ops can be killed and have their limitations just like every other class, they will move on to something a bit simpler to play at first.
