Choose your side wisely…
What side are you on?
Since we know next to nothing on each sides motivations I voted based soley on asthetic value. I’ll take Kevlar and a gas mask over booty shorts and face paint any day of the week. Well except Friday, that’s party night.
I have not really fully decided but i voted Rebel (resistance) for now. I like the art stle. They remind me of some of the gangs from Necromunda.
If it were on real life values i would probably go for security though.
In truth it wont really matter i will play both just as much.
If the two factions were asymmetrical in gameplay, I would probably play one faction more than the other.
I played strogg 99% of the time on pubs in ETQW, purely because GDFs gamestyle was too similar to w:et, and I wanted something different.
There were others though that really bought into the mythology of the game - GDF players who felt the need to “protect the planet” and be the “good guy”. I think in Brink the strories that unfold wont be so cut and dry and players who do invest into the mythology of games will find that they will relate to both sides of the story.
Well at least i think so : /
Isn’t it on both sides, both sides are good guys? I guess you can say the security is like trying to protect their world in their own eyes, but in the rebels eyes, they are oppressive dictators who don’t share.
The rebel side is like being freedom fighters who want to live in the ark in such harsh times while the security sees them as terrorists.
So, I don’t know, both sides are tough to choose. I have to wait to see how they really look like and what they wear in game before I choose. I have a game character fashion sense.
I don’t think it is ‘both are good guys.’ I think it’s more like ‘both are good guys, in their own eyes.’ Neither thinks they are in the wrong. It depends which way you look at it. I mean, The Taliban don’t consider themselves ‘bad guys,’ but from our perspective, through what we know, or are told, we label them as such. And I’m sure bombing them and setting up bases in their land, we look like the bad guys to them. So I guess once we find out more backstory on the factions, or play through the campaigns, we will have to make our own decisions as to who are the ‘bad guys’ and ‘good guys.’
Good and bad are all a matter of perspective anyway (as you’ve mentioned), so in a way it’s a bit redundant.
I think Ash said it best in Army of Darkness:
Good, bad… I’m the guy with the gun.
Security!
the rebel scum will feel my baton upon their cheeks before this day is over.
Get of my lawn!
I don’t mean to get into religious/political discussions here but I do hope that both sides got something more rational going for them than just holy scripture. There’s enough conflicts in the world that aren’t (directly) based on religious fanaticism.
Slowly looking forward to the game.
Security = Axis
Rebel = Allies …mhmm not sure about that one
Security offcourse
What timestart said.
And i hate to see specific people prefer a specific team and thus unbalance the game like in etqw where newbs tapped join-gdf 100 times a sec so they kept losing as a result.
then they moan the game is un-balanced and strogg are op…
i lol every single time :\

Won’t be much of an issue as you select your side from the very beginning. Any unbalance you’ll find will be picked at the start. Furthermore, it wasn’t really always GDF, players just always preferred to be the attacker so they could be the ones doing the touch-downs and be the hero.
Maybe the game should start suggesting people which side still needs players when they’re creating a character. Something subtle.
You chose a side at the beginning and when people quit massive unbalance?
And no, it wasn’t the attackers, more like defenders. People didn’t want to kill their last brain cells telling a noob not to be outside and do the right thing.

One character can play for both factions, you simply choose two different outfits. At least that’s what it looked like in the customization presentation. I don’t remember anyone official saying something about it though. May be a good question for the Q&A thread.
You collect uniform stuff for one side as you go through the story, what then, are you to switch and be naked again? Do they even let guys with all the anarchy resistance tattoo’s in the security?
Now THAT doesn’t make sense.
Did you see the presentation? Too bad the customization isn’t shown in the videos on the net.
While customizing the character there was a hint to switch between Security and Resistance with L/R (only Resistance was shown)*. Your character may have two completely independent looks. If you don’t want your security ego to have tattoos you simply won’t give him any. The two factions are symmetrical so unlocked abilities won’t be a problem.
- that’s a fact, the rest is speculation
There’s not much to discuss. I’ll simply post a question in the Q&A.
