What map is this??

(Randomdeath) #1

I was looking at the store page, and found this image

What map does this image take place on?

Also, i couldent tell if this should be posted in map discussions or general chat, so @Amerika @Ardez @Faraleth Please place this discussion wherever you see fit. I never have the best judgement

its Bridge 2nd stage (Alpha)

(Randomdeath) #3

… Huh… Changed a lot, hasnt it? Wow. Thanks <3

(Ardez1) #4

Yes, bridge used to look quite a bit different. The game itself did. I never got to play on the map, but I tending to agree with Jaso here.

I so wish we’d get the old (long) versions of the maps back running on some selected servers :<

Bridge is basically a copy of Goldrush Map from Enemy Territory. First you have to repair the tank/EV located near enemy spawn, then escort it to the bank/GH building, destroying two/one barriers on the way. Then you have to steal two gold crates/drug samples. In Goldrush you had to escort the truck after stealing the gold, so I guess they made it like this in Dirty Bomb too - you had to run with the samples. But then they had to realise this is not a very good idea, because map would be too hard for the attackers ; )

there was a video from alpha brige but it probably got taken out

there is one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dJkP_ek1duc

EDIT: Oh, you edited your post  Yeah, this is the vid.

There were two barriers between starting location and GH building, then one barrier between GH building and final destination. So, this map was even more like Goldrush then it is now.

i know im only saying this because you always want what you cant have in life, but i would love to play these early maps and alpha db in general (even though it was most likely much less polished and worse)

(Randomdeath) #10

In that vid the reviving anim looks really weird to me. Do you guys have any alpha footage of special abilities?

(Randomdeath) #11

this. like a Nostalrius for DB? (except one that wont get shut down)

(Jesus) #12

Why did the game looked so much better back then

Then, they were going for a more realistic look. They switched to a more cartoony type aesthetic between alpha and beta

(Elvisz) #14

i really like how the game looked in pre-alpha.
The speed was slower back then? or just my coffe didn’t kick in yet?
(like development went: "i know lets make the gameplay/characters faster. and yeah lets make the whole thing more cartoonish just to go with it:)) )

(FerfyDerf) #15

I feel I should point out that going with a more cartoonish art style allows for better aging. What looks as realistic as possible one year could look… off… down the line.

TF2 is a good example, albeit an extreme. Game looks just as good today as it did upon release due to being an art style, and not a mimicry of reality to be outdone.

(Herr_Hanz) #16

i do agree that the cartoon style is better. in the video it looked and sounded a lot like battlefield

(ElDingDong) #17

I would actually like the ‘drug building’ (forgot the name) to have higher ceilings like the one in the alpha. The beta one looks really congested compared to the alpha.

(Shirobon) #18

That map actually looks better than the one we have now. It somehow shows the charm of narrow english roads and old buildings better than the one we have now. It might be a bit too long now, but I would sure loved it if some servers had alpha maps.

Community servers when? D:

I saw Bushwhacker with the Dreiss. I want Alpha back.

(Elvisz) #20

I’m not saying that the cartoonish style is bad, all I’m saying that the alpha was more “dirty”
