What is this all about?

http://www.gentoogames.com/

The download link doesn’t work but that isn’t the point.
The point is has anyone ever used it?
And is there a working link anywhere for this CD version?

(Cosmos) #2

There isn’t a CD version as far as I know.

(Jahuu) #3

Follow the link, download the image, burn it and there you have it.

(Cosmos) #4

Can someone confirm that this CD image is official…
As far as I know the only official release is the executable file.

(Jahuu) #5

Don’t know but I’ve downloaded it and I am now beginning to burn it.

To a CD-RW  .

(Jahuu) #6

It worked!!!

Try it out today!

(Cosmos) #7

Is there any difference between the executable one and the cd image?

(Jahuu) #8

Well the bootable one includes all drivers for allmost everything.

I tried it with the computer I am typing on right now and on a portable one. The sounds don’t work on this one. So they haven’t got any drivers for my “motherboard integrated sound chip”. But other than that it is great!!

The link doesn’t work on the main page but follow up the mirror sites and download from there if you want to.

Works perfectly!!!

(Remember to burn as an image)

But the real problem is my network (Firewall) issues. Even with the installed version.

The main question is… What is the difference between having the image cd and the executable… I mean is there any more files which enhance the game? I take it this is not an official release as the cd cannot be sold… its free. I’m quite happy with the executable file and sticking that on CD and giving it my mates for free or the price of the cd… 20p

Well the main differences:

1.Bootable CD includes some sort of limited OS so if you wan’t to do anything else you must reboot.
2.Bootable CD doesn’t save anything to anywhere, so you must customize the options every time you start the game.
3.Bootable CD might not have all of the drivers (like my sound chip driver)
4.Bootable CD. You can take it with you to work and play there without installation.

But for the game itself — No differences what so ever.

It sounds like a good idea this boot CD but the original file will do nicely for the moment.

(Jahuu) #12

Yeah. The main reason why I downloaded and burned the bootable CD is the following:

-I have windows 98 and linux on my system.
-ET works in win98, but my firewall (and parents) prevent me from playing in windows.
-ET doesn’t work in linux for the moment as I don’t have any good drivers for my graphics adaptor, which I can’t install as I am not the root on my computer, but my parents who are out of town are.

So I thought that this bootable CD which I downloaded and burned earlier today might allow me to play on the net, but I can’t because of two things:
1.No sound (the boot CD doesn’t support my sound chip.)
2.No network (the firewall, the -insert a bad word here- firewall)

But I guess I’ll wait for my parents, get the drivers for linux, run down the firewall and start playing in the net.

(Cosmos) #13

HeHe. I haven’t tried Linux yet but I’m tempted to try it if I get another PC just to see what its like.

So has anyone else ever used Gentoo linux bootable enemy teriotory CD ???

See the link on the first post for details.
