What is the map you hate the most ?

Gold rush has got to be the worst map, atleast for pub play on large servers. The allied team requires an elusive combination of teamwork, competitence, and skill that seems above most pub crowds. You can be trying your hardest to repair the tank and get the new spawn when the rest of your engies are off blowing the truck barriers. Even after the tank blows the bank doors you still have silly engies fixing stuff instead of trying to get the gold. The first script I’ve written for ET was a text-bind saying “Stop trying to fix stuff and go get the gold.” =)

I hate the train in the Railgun :moo:

Although I agree with you on the statements about poor players on pubs. I don’t think that reflects on the map itself. Goldrush, is a great map. Very well laid out.

Railgun on the other hand? It just seems like the map designers thought how neat it’d be to move a tug back and forth. Railgun quickly becomes air strike city and loses any semblence of sanity. It’s just spam, spam, spam, and move the tug. It also encourages spawn camping. Which personally, I don’t have a huge problem with, but it doesn’t make for a good game - IMO.

Goldrush is such a shitty map, mainly because it forces you to play a certain way. There are no wide open spaces where snipers or machine-guns will go good, it is all just close up SMG fighting or airstrike spamming retarded shit. Although the thing I like about it is that engineers definetly have plenty to do…

(pw50King) #6

This poll is stupid! why telling SD you hate one of their maps?!
Tell SD you like their maps cuz you need to keep SD motivated for another wolfenstein game in the future! :bash:

(Brinkman) #7

gold rush or railgun

(poorme) #8

I create the pool, “hate” is may too strong, but “prefer the less” should be better ??

(senator) #9

I hate the hidden ‘Hookers Paradise’ level I mean, what’s the point ? If I want to see some half-naked chicks I only need to watch some commercials  And the level itself isn’t the best designed either.

I like all maps, Also radar because you can really sneak in that map. But I’m getting quite low FPS in that map so that’s the reason I vote for radar.

I prefer Fuel Dump, because I like that map for both sides.

It’s a fun map, but flawed I think. Too biased towards the defenders if there are a large number of players.

Stealing the tank isn’t the problem- a single good player as engineer can fix the tank after 3-4 runs with just minimal help from the rest of the team. And pushing the tank to the vault doors can be difficult with all the airstrikes, but it’s usually possible. However, if the Allies can’t complete the first two stages (steal tank, break vault doors) quickly, then their loss is assured, because the 3rd stage (get gold) is 10x as hard as them. Unless the Axis are totally outclassed, they can easily hold inside the vault for 15+ minutes.

If Axis sets up a good team in there, then the Allies’ only hope is that boredom will cause a few defenders to abandon their posts. I’ve seen 4 MGs inside the vault- two on each side (stacked on top of each other!). Add in one medic and one FO to keep them supplied, and nobody can get in there. With 2-3 MGs hitting you at once, an Ally is dead before he can panzer or toss a grenade. With supreme luck, you could explode 2 of the defenders before getting perforated, but they’ll be back in a few seconds.

And of course, the whole rest of the Axis team (10 people on a 16v16 server) is fighting in the courtyard, slowing the attackers and giving the defense team advance warning (because there’s probably a CovertOp or two out there, so the MGs can shoot even before blue blips come in).

Other tactics which don’t help: Adrenalin lets a medic die after 6 paces, instead of just 3. Smoke just causes the MGs to waste a little of their enormous ammo supplies by shooting bursts into the cloud. Disguise won’t work, since at least one of the defenders is watching the compass.

To fix the map: there should be ways to attack the vault room from more directions. There should still be just one door you can go in and out of, but it should be possible to throw grenades towards the rear of the room without exposing yourself to the doorway. I think a few small windows of breakable glass would accomplish this. Allies could toss 2-3 grenades towards the desk area of the vault to disrupt Axis soldiers, before they charge in. This change would force Axis to defend not just the vault itself, but also the corridors surrounding it.

These maps just take more team-coordination, especially Goldrush and Railgun. I love them all.

(bani) #13

two words: rifle grenades

you can rebound them off the walls outside the line of sight, and the mg42 gunners don’t stand a chance.

yes, the vault is very heavily biased toward axis defense.

actually there’s a simple way to make it more balanced. go inside the vault room and … look up!

if they allowed allies a way to get to the balcony, it would solve a lot of the vault camping issues.

(senator) #14

toss a smoke grenade in there. The room is so small that basically all defenders are blinded and the allied team can rush in without meating coordinated resistance

(kotkis) #15

I vote for fueldump because it’s a way too easy map to defend if there are two even skilled teams playing. I haven’t played railgun on a clan war yet so I can’t say anything on that one, some say that it’s a lousy map for clan wars, however, so is fueldump. Fueldump might be a great map for public game, but that really isn’t enough for me

([FD-NL]imurderu) #16

I agree that fueldump is too easy to defend, it is the most unbalanced map i think.
The railgun is the best map as far as im concerned

(bani) #17

bah fueldump is easy. i dont think its unbalanced at all.

you want unbalanced maps look at radar and goldrush. radar is biased toward allies and goldrush is biased towards axis.

goldrush can be easily fixed though. :moo:

i dont like railgun at all. playing it either as axis or allies, it just isnt ‘fun’ to me for some reason.

([=O=]SMYLER) #18

I COULDN’T hate any of them SD did a friggin’ AMAZING job on all of them and as far as I’m concerned they can’t be faulted for the “Oh Yes !” factor every time a new map loading screen comes up.

So there really should be a “The level designers should be bought twin bisexual blonde hookers with abnormally large mammary glands” choice in the vote.

You beat me to it bani. Rifle nades are invaluable - coupled with a smoke canister.

I probably like railgun the least. Hard to say why, just a general feeling - very hard to play as Axis especially if Allied set up a mortar on spawn and toss canisters & defend the track switch in numbers. The whole map tends to get condensed into a very small area with the train going back and forth over 100 metres of track…
…I’d like the train to give you a little more protection - maybe somewhere to crouch into in the driver area???

In my opinion all maps should be biased towards allies because of the fact that most competitional matches are played with SW-mode and it’d be nice if all teams could set up a time and there would not be these 3h lasting matches. I haven’t played radar so can’t say anything on that, but I agree that goldrush is also a bit off the balance, but so is fueldump. In fact, I haven’t seen a single match where both teams would have completed the objective without any lucky sneak or anything like that. Ofcourse I might be wrong and this will change after some time, but at the moment I really don’t think so.
