What is permanent?

(aaarrm) #1

What are all the things that are permanent from what you choose and cannot be changed?

I’m guessing it’s tattoos, scars, and face type. Any other things? Or am I right or wrong?

How pissed would you guys be if you accidently messed up your character from day 1 and couldn’t change it, lol.

(GkrewZ) #2

if you mess him up you can always delete him and make a new one, especialy if you only just made your guy.

You sound about right on whats permanent. Also the characters voice is permanent.

(Joe999) #3

not at all. i’m sure sd would have introduced appropriate measures. eg if you choose a heavy guy, then probably the more you run ingame, the more weight he loses. that’s the heavy -> skinny transition. the skinny -> heavy transition is probably only for snipers who don’t move at all. ie the more you snipe, the heavier you get. and if you don’t play for a week, your character dies from starvation and you’d have to rebuy the game. or sth. it’s like tamagotchi for brink. every game should have it.

^ ^ ^

lol no need for trollin.

I think that it is just body type, voice pack, scars, tatoos and face archetype.

(RumRunner) #5

body type can be changed before each mission. you can’t change it during the mission. but it can be changed.

(Wraith) #6

According to who? Everyone starts medium then unlocks heavy or light. I wasn’t aware it was so easily changed afterwards.

(LyndonL) #7

AFAIK it’s relatively easy to change, but will cost you XP each time.

(RumRunner) #8

read it somewhere in a dev diary or interview or something… i forget where… but i am pretty sure that is the case… could be wrong though…

(Ajax's Spear) #9

The “what is your favorite archetype” thread on the front page goes into this in somewhat good detail, with links scattered about.

(Herandar) #10

Nothing is permanent. Everyone dies.

Also, I’m restating what I said in the other thread: I don’t think anything is permanent anymore. I wish it was, but I’m pessimistic. If you unlock a scar after beating a challenge, they are going to let you remove your original scar.

Why lock players into something that is totally cosmetic in a game that has customization as one of it’s largest selling points? If they aren’t going to lock you into body type, why make faces permanent?

(brbrbr) #11

thats about immersion of gameplay, L&F avatars specs affects which sides.
ie, seems answer was “Yes”.
but nobody limits you from creating another alter-ego in Brink and destroy older one.

(KnollDark) #12

it was you could only switch characters between matches not the body type of character

(LyndonL) #13

Well by that logic you can’t then adjust your abilities in between matches either, since abilities and body type changing are done the same way afaik.

(DarkangelUK) #14

Why would you not be able to switch abilities if body type was locked? I’d say it’d be very easy to switch abilities if body type was locked, by the fact that the body type option is locked, and abilities aren’t. Anyway, I was under the impression what Knoll said is the way it was.

(LyndonL) #15

Because switching abilities costs XP and is done from the same place where you switch body types from what I understand.

I could very well be wrong, but it makes sense to me…

(DarkangelUK) #16

Sure, and the abilities can be switchable and body type greyed out and locked. I just don’t see how locking the body type automatically locks abilities, like it’s an option SD have no control over.

(Bullveyr) #17

If you aren’t able to switch abilities during a round you would also not be able to effectively switch classes, so I’m pretty sure you can at least switch the class specific abilities.

(LyndonL) #18

My point being why NOT be able to swap body types between matches? It’s not a tactical advantage since you can’t see the other team anyway since they have the same options to swap it up.

If not, when can you? Only from the title screen? Seems silly to me.

(DarkangelUK) #19

Right sorry I picked you up wrong, I thought you meant you physically can’t rather than shouldn’t. I’m quite happy with being able to pay to change when you’re not in a game.

I think between rounds won’t work with a dedicated server set up, I think you would need to leave the server all together to be able to change. In Black Ops on console you can adjust your class between rounds as matchmaking allows for that, on PC you can’t because of dedicated servers, you need to quit, make changes, then rejoin.

I’m on the same page when it comes to body types.
