What is holding me back: CPU or GPU?

You have Hunkmegs at 192, but you have 1GB ram!! You could possibly put Hunkmegs at 600, I don’t know what the useful range is for it though. Tbh i don’t know if you will get more fps from it either.

Is it with ETPro 3.x with the new antilag your FPS has dropped? I mean, you were talking about that you used to have 125 steady. It seems to me that ETPro 3.x needs more CPU power.

r_swapinterval “0”, that has something to with the display rate and FPS, don’t remember if this is the proper value for your case

hunkmegs > 192 makes no difference whatsoever.

thx for the replies guys

RocketGrrl, it seems that etpro 3.0.1 does require more cpu power. I did a little bit of testing and submitted the results to bani. There was a noticable drop on 3.0.1 servers (vs 2.0.7) but i’m convinced that there is more involved that just et pro 3.0.1

i’ll try toggling r_swapinterval and see if that helps. thx for the tip

i believe kendle is correct about the hunkmegs not making any difference, as i tried bumping these up with no fps change.

I read an interesting post on bani’s forums about com_maxpackets and the advantages of syncing this with my fps … so i’m considering trying to lock my fps to 76 (along with my maxpackets) to see if it is better than my current config

btw, i didn’t get any work done today with all the forum searching i’ve done :fiesta:

btw 2, see you T! lads tonight for 1 glorious round of radar for savage league ! gl / hf

Here’s hoping you lag out tonight on radar Melon :stuck_out_tongue:

If you can overclock your CPU, memory and/or FSB, that might help you out. Or maybe there is some related BIOS setting holding you back.

r_swapinterval is the in game control for vsync. Depending on your driver and control panel settings, it may or may not work, but if you are already sure vsync is off (since your FPS isn’t equal to or divisor of your refresh rate) then there is no point messing with it.

As others have said, there is no reason to have hunkmegs over 192. In fact, you might find that lowering it to something like 96 gives you a slight improvement on load times.

god I’m such a n00b to these things…would love to help out, but got idea tbh

You have to be kidding me… I’m running a 2GHz P4 with a ATi 9600 and 256MB RAM. My frames never drop ingame.

Don’t worry about FPS. Anything higher than 60 is hardly distinguishable anyways. As long as you get at least that, you should be fine.

the fps issue is relating to the magic numbers that you can lock you fps at, locked at these special numbers u can jump a liitle further and higher - essential for some of the trick jumps

also setting the max fps results in a smoother gaming experience regardless of what it’s set at (unless u set it at something silly like 10)

but I’m still locking at 43 :frowning:
