What is everyone complaining about?

Brink is the best game I have played in years. The only bug I have encountered is the objective wheel confusion. This is a very minor thing and not really a bug. I expect the objectives prompts will be simplified by the next patch. I love that a lot of people hate this game, it mentally confirms for me that this game is not for 12 year olds screaming curse words. (Which unfortunately is a big chunk of camera) I am really loving this game. I particularly enjoy playing engineer and medic. Let us know your thoughts on the game

Exit: sorry for typos, I am using this forum on my phone.

What is everyone complaining about?

about the bugs?
Yeah, its a great game, i really enjoy playing it. BUT, alll those GFX-troubles ,performance-troubles, serverbrowser-troubles,cvar-troubles ARE IN THE GAME and they are annoying me.

Im just a guy waiting for the patch to fix this stuff. They messed up the PC-Release and a huge load of totally obvious bugs that haven’t been fix. sorry to say.

If we all have to wait until patch 1.5 AGAIN, its too late… AGAIN…

atm for me:

bugs > fun i have with this game

(boozee84) #3

the only negative thing so far that i’ve experienced were multiple game freezes(xbox 360).
if they’re able to fix this, i’m absolute happy with it.

(Fr3ddy) #4

I am complaining about the fact I can’t even start the game. crash on startup.

(fearlessfox) #5

Aspects of the game were hyped up by SD and failed to deliver:

SP mode being a watered down version of MP when they made such a fuss about it being so great.

The game was released with many bugs that shouldn’t have been there /especially/ as SD had taken a year on top of standard dev time to smooth out all the kinks.

Fact is, no matter how great the foundation of Brink the release was less than stellar. We can only hope SD keep true to their reputation and patch this game to excellence.

Nice job insulting people who have serious technical problems with the game (which are not their fault).

Maybe you would know what people are complaining about if you took the time to actually read other threads. You don’t have to start a new thread every time you have something to say. Doing so is equivalent to “la la la I can’t hear you ! I don’t care about past valid arguments. I don’t want to be threatened by people who can reason.”

im having heaps of fun on it

Everyone is complaining about the fact that a majority of the games they play is unplayable due to the horrible lag. It’s not just lag where you dive into cover but you die anyway, or you shoot someone and they die 5 seconds later. No… that kind of lag might actually be acceptable at this point. A majority of Brink players experience lag where they can’t even move their character or aim, and they end up warping everywhere even though it shows that EVERYONE has green bars.

Yeah, the game is fun WHEN there’s no lag. But it’s kind of ridiculous going into every match and wondering when you’re going to start lagging out.

(Hubschrauber) #9

If all is running smoothly for you online, I’ll bet you like it.

However…things ain’t so pretty offline. Not only that, a lot of online users are experience lag when a good connection matters most.

Bots and online lag are my only complaints.

OMFG Thank You! I signed up on these forums today just to see if they were going to do anything about this lag issue… It’s F’n HORRIBLE! I’m on the 360 and can’t play through half the games even though I have green bar! Not to mention the game froze on me the other day. I got this because I couldn’t stand Section 8 locking up my xbox every 5 min. and now it’s on this too! Plzzzzzzzzz get this fixed. I just want to play a solid running game for once :frowning:

So, after a lot of painfully boring gameplay, I finally made it to Day 8: Fallout of the Security campaign.

This is a triple-objective defence mission, where you have to defend two bomb points or hack point or whatever the crap it’s not important. Here’s what happened.

Three times, in a row, consecutively, we would hold the object for 9 minutes and 30 seconds without a single problem. Then, at 9:30 minutes and 0.00001 seconds, my entire NPC team’s balls suddenly drop off while the other team suddenly become coordinated killing machines and we all die. The NPCs plant the bomb, and it goes off with about 10 seconds left to go before we would have won.

This happened three times in a row.

THREE TIMES IN A *****ING ROW

ON EASY

*****ING EASY

I HAD TO START PLAYING ON EASY AFTER THE FIRST MISSION BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW RIDICULOUSLY SKILLED YOU ARE, NOTHING CAN COMPENSATE FOR HOW HORRENDOUSLY BAD THE ALLY AI IS.

WHAT THE HELL SPLASH DAMAGE?

At other points in the game like that mission in the area that looks like an airport, I’ll camp the objective for 3-8 minutes while my team is off masturbating somewhere.

What’s even worse then that, is when the team is there, and it’s a robotics objective, and two robotics are standing right in front of it and THEY REFUSE TO COMPLETE THE OBJECTIVE. THEY DO *****ING NOTHING.

WHAT THE *****ING HELL SPLASH DAMAGE? DID YOU PROGRAM THESE GUYS TO STARE AT WALLS AND CRAP THEIR PANTS ALL DAY OR DID THE CODE JUST GET DROPPED ON IT’S HEAD AS A BABY? IF YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE A SINGLE PLAYER MDOE THAT IS A DIRECT COPY OF THE MULTIPLAYER OBJECTIVE BASED MODE, YOU NEED AI THAT IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO BACK YOU UP LIKE OTHER PLAYERS WOULD.

Now, the game is designed to be co op, that’s understandable, but the first thing a normal person wants to do when they get a new game is to experience the storyline in a nice linear fashion. With Brink you have three choices:

a) Join a nice low ping server and play whatever levels they happen to want to play and have no concept of story progression
b) Select “public” in the campaign menu and get paired with people in czechoslovakia and have to put up with terrible lag
c) play solo with bots

Obviously C is the only good choice there.

The game will not run smoothly on my rig that runs Crysis 2 at maximum (GTX470, Q9400, 4gb ram) and the multiplayer lags like hell, both latency and frame rate drops and stuttering. None of the guns are fun to use, ALL the assault rifles are inaccurate, do barely any damage, and have way too much recoil. Literally the only good guns in the game are the bulpdaun smg, the machine pistol, and the minigun. The “parkour” is about as fluid as a brick and every multiplayer match I played consisted of people camping a single corridor.

Quake Live is a good shooter.
Section 8: Prejudice is a good shooter.
Unreal Tournament is a good shooter.
Natural Selection 2 is a good shooter.
Crysis is a good shooter (not the sequel, that was trash)
Brink is just bad. As bad as I have ever seen.

Section 8 Prejudice actually has a campaign, better objective based multiplayer, is better optimised, and is $15. I want a refund on for the $80 I spent on this laggy buggy mess of bad programming and bad gameplay.

This is just a first impression from my first 6 hours of playing the game, but SD are going to need to do a LOT to make this a decent game. More then I have ever seen any developer fix a game after release.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #12

Keep at it. The game is VERY FUN when it’s running smoothly.

(BrokenBrink) #13

Why was the game bumped up a week early if they couldn’t even get online multiplayer working properly on the 360? A small group of my friends (10 or 12) all purchased this game on Tuesday and haven’t been able to play a single game against other humans due to the horrible lag. Pretty sure everyone of us said we will be trading it in next week if the lag is still persistent.

It’s a shame too, because Brink does a lot of things well and is genuinely fun to play. But right now the game is this:

Okay, I agree with you and everything but please stop posting that picture. It was funny the first time… not so much anymore.

(throwback8) #15

I played in my first butter smooth match this morning with fellow forumer bigdaddydellta and it was everything I hoped it would be. Not every player was human but having human players with no lag really opens up possibilities and shows what Brink is all about. If they can fix the netcode Brink will keep me playing for quite a while.

(Bakercompany) #16

I just played a perfectly non-laggy match with all human players (minus like 2?). We lost, but it was epic fun and had zero lag.

Someone said it best in another thread, this game is just a few patches away from being perfect. And I totally agree.

Lobbies, Lag, a few game modes, and for me stat tracking, and this game is 10/10 for me I wouldn’t change a single other thing.

(ed lolington) #17

brink doesn’t really have anything going for it. it’s technically lackluster and has poor performance throughout the spectrum of different systems. the story is hamhanded. the weapons are non-distinct and their attachments provide uninteresting levels of customization. the abilities are all either boring or useless. the maps range from mediocre to awful. the sound is brilliant (unless you’re playing on the reactor map or getting shot at). its best selling point, the customization, gets painted over by golden guns and a red glow. the progression/unlock system assures that everyone on security is wearing the jesse hat for the first 2 ranks and everyone on resistance has green hair. the bots range from infuriating to aggravating. the controls are clunky and unintuitive. the boundary between singleplayer and multiplayer is clearly visible. the genre hasn’t been revolutionized or reinvented.

(Bakercompany) #18

Man I have to totally disagree, those are all opinions and you’re welcome to them.

But I love the gun customization, and I can’t generate a single complaint about the controls on Xbox 360 be it responsiveness or layout. Maps are fine for me, I just want more. If they put in some standard game modes which I hope they do (like TDM) then i’d like to see some different and more symmetrical maps to accomodate that kind of gameplay.

And my characters didn’t look anything like what you said. I haven’t used the jesse hat at all, and I love the look of both of my characters.

Definitely need smarter AI bots though. Way too inconsistent.

(Cole80) #19

Haven’t read whole thread but getting a solid 5-10 FPS from a good quad core and a $450 gfx card seems like a good reason to complain imo

(Shotgun Surgeon) #20

Yeah I play with you guys. It’s iClutch. We need to get some competition match types going though those are a lot of fun.
