What if trinkets did something even if you don't have them equipped

(frostyvampire) #1

Just thought about it now.
I happen to have over 20 trinkets in my inventory that I don’t use. So I thought, why not give these trinkets another passive effect?
I’m not talking about something that gives you an ingame advantage, but just general stuff.
Obviously not ALL the trinkets will have them but the more valuable ones maybe.
I repeat: these effects will apply as long as you own the trinket (have it in your barracks) regardless of if you have them equipped or not

I got some ideas but the possibilities are endless:

5$ event trinkets (Skullsplitter, the new pumpkin, Hexadic etc.) could make it so every time you earn an equipment case in an item drop, it has a 1% chance to be an event equipment case (2% chance for event skin) from that event instead of a normal case. So if I own the Skullsplitter trinket and get an equipment case in a drop, it will have a 1% chance to be a ReV equipment case instead. If I own all 3 of these trinkets, it will be 1% for each so that’s 3% to get a special event case (that has a 2% chance to contain a special edition loadout) instead of a normal one

Each of the meme trinkets could have a 5% chance to spawn a particle effect and every time you get a kill

Skullsplitter could make the enemy head blow up if you insta gib them with a headshot (pretty much only affects snipers but it is supposed to be Aimee’s trinket so…)

Bruh, maybe allow scrapping trinkets into SE cases. XD

I only use that Rekt boxing glove / wrecking ball thing because I like how it looks and that blimp/rocket thing from the same event because it puts a cool little symbol in the killfeed. Beyond that I think they’re stupid and could definitely use some more features like you mentioned. Special taunt trinkets would be cool. I want one that shows your kills or score counter. Someone a long time ago suggested a salt shaker that slowly builds up as you get kills haha.

So something like strange weapons in TF2? Perhaps kill feed can show that too, showing in the feed that you were kill #100.

I feel it’s like the whole CW skin thing again, they can’t say the skins are limited edition then turn around and allow people to start earning them again. However i do like the idea of the other passive effects so long as they would be optional, i don’t feel like having confetti explode out of peoples heads for the rest of the time i play this game

Yes, I’d love if they did something. At the moment I’m kinda iffy about buying real money trinkets because I know they’ll only be useful for a very short time. I think it would be great if they still had effects when in your inventory, but it would be cool if they did more stuff when they were equipped too, giving you a reason to use them and swap them out.

I think it might even be better if the devs didn’t tell us what effects they gave. Having to figure them out might be a fun community event.

Maybe, but the chances to get them will be so small that it doesn’t really matter. It will just make people who bought the trinkets feel like they are still worth something.
(All the numbers here are on average) You get a case every 3 games, so that’s 300 games for 1 event case. You will get an event card only once every 50 cases. So that’s 300*50 = 15000 games for 1 event card. Basically non existent. But just the thought that it might happen to you and you will get lucky is enough and won’t hurt the economy if trading is out.

And yeah an option to toggle the effect of other trinkets wouldn’t hurt.

Oh right i though you meant like a 100% drop rate for the special edition card, maybe more fair then, but still feels useless if it’s 1/15000. Definitely not enough to make me buy a trinket.

Do whatever you like with trinkets. I’m still not using them and personally just delete them to something more serious, like different scopes, suppressors, laser sights and tartan ornated handles.

I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I don’t even like the current event trinkets that give you bonuses as they are now. To have the bonus apply, I have to equip the trinket, essentially turning the single for fun, personalization equipment slot into a standard equipment slot with BiS. @stayfreshshoe, literally, what is the point of having a personalization slot if we’re just going to railroaded into having a specific trinket in there anyway? I want to equip my Sparks trinket cause that’s my favourite trinket, but then I don’t get the bonus I paid for. Hello?!

When you purchase the trinket, the bonus should be applied passively, account-wide, regardless of trinket actually equipped.

Having prior trinkets apply stacking bonuses like suggested… sure, why not? I can’t see Splash Damage caring; but hey, it’s a decent idea.

Also, while I felt the Shellshock trinket returned on value, I really can’t say the same about the Halloween trinket and will probably not be purchasing additional trinkets if they are going to be like this.

They got the hexad booster done right after the ReV fiasco. Kinda peeved that I cant combo my trinket woth steady booster buys. 12k in special currency is a steep price to achieve even with the trinket and improved earn rate.

Poor form DB.

I dunno man I played maybe 3 hours total this weekend with the trinket equipped and I have over 2k spooks.

(ThePigVomit) #13

True. Thinking, I’ve been busy and haven’t got to roll as much as I’ve wanted. That changes tonight.

Gonna get my aurawhore on.

Turtle Shock event boosters and the case system in it was a joke.

Hmmmmnnn… Now i want a Haggis Trinket wearing a Kilt for my Skyhammer and fellow Countrymen xD

But at this point i would just like us to be able to us the UI to even be able to SEE the trinkets on ‘Random’ Gun.

That said, i do like buying Trinkets to help the devs a little and for Events it’s a lil and boost but unless it’s an Event i will always be Rocking my TAC Trinket.

I think you’re playing the wrong game if you’re looking for something serious, lol. After all, this was the game that decided memes made a good christmas event

My only problem with this, is that this technically enables pay to win, regardless of how plausible getting said win may be. Those who paid the 5$ for each whatever trinket now gains bonuses, etc. blah blah blah wah wah.

It’s a no simply based on what you said. If they remain cosmetic only improvements, or allow them to be selected as flairs for certain components of the game (such as attaching a trinket to the barracks “themes” the barracks into those colors and style) I could totally jump behind that. Best trinket is by far the bronze recruit. Gotta show them bad bois the actually hardest to achieve trinket.

How is it pay to win to have cosmetic particle effects on kill?
Or how is it pay to win to have a 1% chance for a normal case to turn into a case that gives you 2% chance to get a cosmetic skin?

The bonuses are purely cosmetic and have no effect on gameplay

(watsyurdeal) #19

If they were something cosmetic I’d like it, like a trinket that causes all execution by gun to be ultra violent. Or maybe the trinket changes as you get a larger and larger killstreak, stuff that is subtle and not over the top.

(JonBongNoJovi) #20

Zodiac Trinkets giving 10% bonus during said sign , one per account .
