Snipers are fun to play but not so much to get shot by.
Do you really think that after making snipers weaker by removing the one shot kill, SD is thining in how to make them more powerful than before?
Immagine you don’t like sniping. You play games like RTCW or ET because you like actually running through the battlefield under cross fire only to reach a spot where you have the chance to fight your opponent in close quarters, where your reflexes and hability can be heavily tested.
Now immagine your opponent just sits on top of a mountain shoting at you while you advance. He kills you many times but it’s not so bad, you can try to be fast and sneaky to avoid any clear shot.
Then you get to him, his gun is awful for close combat and you just crush him. However, while you were at it, another sniper kills you from another mountain. And all starts again.
You will most surely see this is not the game you wanted to play in the first place. So you can chose another game, or hope that the snipers will get hard enough to play that only are effective when there is one in a group of many who can protect him and who will make good use of the cover he gives.
When MW4 got full of mechs that only used the 1000km reach (exact number) missiles and played from the top of a mountain, I chose to find a way to fight it. But after some hundreds of deaths and frags in games that mainly varied between “you are seen, you are dead” and “you aren’t seen, they are dead”; it got very boring, so I changed the game for a faster, more thrilling one.
I like sniping too. I love single player sniper games, I loved to pass Hitman 2 missions at least once sniping only, and I love sniper movies (there are some quite wonderful). However, I think it’s not a kind of enjoyment I’d carry to multiplayer games.
Your idea is good; the silent sniper with his camouflage suit, still as a rock and breathing as a dormant volcano waiting for his victim to give him the slightest chance for a sure shot. However, for people who chose RTCW because of the rest of it’s possibilities, it would be quite awful to be forced to adjust their game around this idea.
(Maybe too long of a post for my poor English, so please excuse the unreadable parts)
