My computer is acting strangely (look for another topic I made on this board, I’m pretty sure it’s still on this page) and many people say that I need to uninstall my graphics card (GE Force 256) and it will re-detect itself. Is it true that it will detect itself, or no, because I don’t want to lose my graphics card (then I’m really screwed). If that doesn’t work, read the topic I made on this board for more information on what my problem is, maybe you would know what my problem is and how to fix it.
What happens when you uninstall a graphics card?
It will / should re-detect itself.
( uninstalling the graphics cards -> remove from windows… not remove the card/hardware from your computer
)
My Job is a network/computer support specialist.
As part of my work I build custom spec PC’s for clients. Many of them are high end gaming or multi media PC’s.
Trust me m8, if you uninstall your gfx card, in “Safe Mode” from the control panel, and reboot.
When XP boots to the desktop, it will tell you “Hey I found new hardware!”
Windows XP has geForce drivers in it’s database. Windows will then tell you that it has found a geforce card, and is installing the driver for you.
All you then need to do is find a better driver than WinXP’s and for that you can browse the archive at www.nvidia.com or the drivers database at www.guru3d.com
If in the unlikely event that windows does not detect your card on boot, then visit nvidia’s site and download one for your card. They usually contain a setup.exe, which when run, does all the work for you.
I would never advise you to do something that would cause your PC harm.
Your gfx issues will either occur thro’ a driver issue/corruption (software = replace driver) or a hardware issue (hardware = replace card).
