What ex ETQW players think of Brink?

(BioSnark) #21

The defense also has to continuously maintain control of the objective to accomplish their goal. Offense usually needs to take control for several seconds to accomplish theirs.

(Cankor) #22

That’s true, although several seconds can mean 35 or so on plant objectives (which is more than 15% of the total time you have to complete the destroy the door objective in the aquarium level).

Or the defense can lose control after having gibbed all the objective class guys

I have played ET:QW a lot and surely can’t wait for the release of Brink. Since the slow demise of the ET:QW playerbase I have been playing TF2 and last year BF:BC2 for a while. But they pale in comparison to SD games in general.
Sure, they are fun for a while, but the deeper structure of ET or (hopefully) Brink will always hook me more. So I’m really excited to play another proper MP-game when Brink finally is released.

BF:BC2 Rush mode can’t really be compared to Brink or the ET-Series for that matter. It is still very shallow, cause everyone can blow up the objective. It would be a differnt thing if only the engineer or the covert ops could arm the crates. But that would be too difficult for the usual BF-BC2 bush hugging sniper guys  .
Don’t get me wrong: I enjoyed BC2 for 400hours + but only because there has been no alternative. Now that Brink arrives, BC2 shall never be touched by me again

(system) #24

I don’t think anything, I haven’t played the game yet. I have only seen console footage with it’s slow paced gameplay.
I only preordered because I still trust SD to make a good game.

(Om3ga) #25

I’m ex Wolf: ET and ET: QW player and i can’t wait for Brink, it is already ‘Game of The Year’ for me.
Also health re-gen promotes running from combat.
Accualy
If you are weight is Light you are fast but you have low health.

If you are medium, you have medium speed and health

If you are Heavy you have lot of healt but you are slow.

And you have to wait like 10s untill hp will re-gen. E: Untill healt is full again.
“If you watch carefully, you can see the mission timelimit change in between the guy taking damage and healing due to a cut.”

Brink seems to be AWSOME for matches!

(madness) #26

looks like 5 sec, not 10

(Om3ga) #27

nahh! they will fix it to 10s, i hope :stuck_out_tongue:
Well, it will take 10s untill HP is full again. But does big guys whit huge healt have longer HP re-gen?

(brbrbr) #28

nothing.
until i try it.

As an ET:QW player (I even still play it ), I must say I have my doubts about Brink.

One example: In one of the latest videos health regeneration is shown.
There weren’t such things in former games like ET or ET:QW, so I really don’t understand why they brought this up.

In my opinion SD tried to improve several things from former games. The major reason why ET:QW was not that accepted like it should have been, was because of its complexity. Even after 3 and a half year you can still discover various things, which you haven’t figured out yet.
I have to admit that such a complexity is a way too difficult for beginners.

But Brink seems to me like a game, which is adapted for noobs. Are the consoles the reason for this? I don’t know.
I don’t want to make a comment so I ask instead:
Is there a respawn timer which you can see all the time, to time your selfkill?
This is very essential for clanwars for example, where you have to time your attacks.

Does a nade kill someone immediately or does it just throw you on the ground?
If you will just fall over, it would confirm my argument with a adapted gameplay for noobs.

To all ETQW players, what do you think about this?

(tokamak) #30

Self-killing is the easiest way to do a timed push. Self-killing is lame, especially competitive players should have the tactical and communicational skills to be able to make timed pushes without this exploit.

(Rex) #31

Please read your post once again before I have to post a triple facepalm picture.

(tokamak) #32

I mean it. Respawning is basically a free teleport, free health, free class change and free health replenish across the map, the only limits are that it has a certain window and that the point you travel to is fixed. There’s nothing skilful about respawning on the right moments. The moment you add a travel distance to this it suddenly becomes something which requires insight, spatial awareness, and true timing.

(Rex) #33

 Ok, you’re a complete noob. But don’t worry Brink release is soon.

(tokamak) #34

Aye, and I really hope this trivial trick is excluded.

(brbrbr) #35

doing respawns from Duke3D/Q1/UT99 times ftw.
its PART of [succesful]gameplay.
if you don’t like it - f…off to your [filthy/sucking]CoD, then, losers !!

yeah and brink will shipped with electrically-condtrolled handcuffs to prefent you from respawning both ingame and in offline, injection poison into you body EACH time you attempt to. thanks God for [each]revival then !

I heard your mouse input will be reversed if you dare to kill yourself just as the respawn timer reaches 0.
Since when does using everything the game offers became a no skill? I thought it was the other way around.

I guess people who counted the next spawn time for armor/health in quake are noobs too.

(tokamak) #37

Oh definitely, if the game offers it then it obviously is more skilful to use these things than not to use them. But it’s a skill ceiling easily reached, it’s nothing but a simple trick. Taking it away would up the skill ceiling many times over. When redeployment requires more than than the push of a button at the right time, it will start to factor in the rest of the game, you will have to weigh whether the travel is worth it, whether it’s not better to push through or wait for reinforcements all depending on your current state and location.

then you guess was WRONG.
is a SKILL.
and one of Essential for Victory ingame.
in practically any game, except CoD/BF/CS
yes, even in OFP:R/Arma2 online too.

(tokamak) #39

And what would you think would be changed if it was gone? What would be different?

(system) #40

Doing this once, yes, not much of a skill. Continuously monitoring your situation and managing to use it right every time it gives you a bit of advantage, that’s a skill.
I could say it’s similar to watching the minimap in Starcraft. Some people sometimes watch it and spot enemy units, very good players rarely take their eyes of it.
