Having never played Firefall out of interest were these advantages ONLY available through pay, or was it just that they were virtually impossible to grind for so pay was the only viable alternative?

pay only although they have said they might eventually add another method to obtain it. Justifying it by saying you werenā€™t buying power, but buying convenience. Basically you have very limited ability to change your class or loadout during a match if you donā€™t pay money.

Iā€™d actually be totally okay with paying for convenience, if Iā€™ve logged a couple hundred hours into a free game that I know Iā€™m not nearly done with then I donā€™t mind at all dropping a couple of quid to support the devs and getting back convenience in return.

But what you describe doesnā€™t seem to be only convenience, but an actual tactical advantage.

So there is a clear point to be had that what the devs consider an advantage could conceivably be different to that of the community.

I guess when it comes down to it that if you want to create a game that your community will accept, then at some point you actually have to listen to said community.

At least from my limited perspective this is the case with DB thus far, which gives me only hope going forward.

Didnt they also say they were gonna listen to us with all the other games? I do not count on it that much. Just hope they can give us a good core game with a working competitive mode and thats about it.

3HS for kill. Hit sounds. Interesting/different maps, with couple ways to go to and do a objective. Different objectives. Strafe jumping enabled. Trick jumps. No spread. Thats it. CanĀ“t be that hard :smiley:

Yeah, my good freind, we are not talking about QW2, or do we? I am perfectly fine with spread like it was in QW tho, especially in promod, and just wanted to keep my oppinion as quick as possible, because I am not one of the privileged to make any impact at all in the endā€¦ Ima gonna go in my coner again, and keep F5Ā“ing all day long until I get an inviteā€¦

dont want to see hyperblasters/gpmg type guns in DBā€¦

nothing against heavy weapons, just nothing like the HB/GPMGā€™sā€¦ which are a joke in etqwā€¦

if you need to have them, then please take a page from raven and RTCW with regards to the Venomā€¦ yeah very powerful and deadly in close quartersā€¦ but unlike the HB/GPMG, you couldnt hit squat at long distances and over-heated in a matter of secondsā€¦ in other words it took Skill to use the Venom and be effective with itā€¦ unlike the HB/GPMGā€¦

but back to topic

  • strafejumps / tricky moves but nothing like SMART
  • different classes, each class with a unique skill and their own objectives
  • main and secondary obj.
  • good set of balanced weapons.
  • Demo recording and Spectator
  • Offline playing - at least to learn the maps and to train your trick/jump moves
  • achieve skills hold for a campaign and no longer - ET/ETQW had a very good balance: You could join later, get your first 1-2 stars and I did not feel ā€œunderpoweredā€. Not like Brink, should not join if you dont have a full leveled char.
  • good networking code (ha, I still stuck when MCP drops :/)
  • free FOV and cross hairs (in Quake2 I had different FOVs and crosses depending on the weapon in hand)
  • allow customizing config up to a certain level.
  • support solutions above full hd or flexible setup for multi screen users
  • Ingame VOIP and quickcalls (take the really good ETQW and combine it with Planetside2 controlls) Max. 2 levels depth for quick calls
  • allow MODs
  • Maps with close quarter and wide open areas

IMHO:
Please dont present new unlock weapons/ā€œfeaturesā€ every month after DB is realeased. Personal I am treating DB as a full price game even if its F2P. Paid glady for my pack.

Mod, without any unlockables and leveling up for competitive gaming. Would be a shame, if one team would have technological advantage. Iā€™m thinking about something we had in RTCW (OSP) and ET (ETPro).

Glad to hear that. Also the option to change FOV and hitsounds AND the option to turn them off would be great. Otherwise so far everything else seems good enough. Not going to say perfect, 'cause itā€™s not out yet :slight_smile:

The option to change FOV will be available from the options menu (FOV slider), it was posted on the forum by staff. No idea about hitsounds though.

A lot of elements from Wolf:ET

  • Objective based
  • Spawntimers so you can selfkill on 1 sec spawntime (instant respawn)
  • Gib players (if you kill people they still can be healed, make it like in ET that you also can shoot dead boddies like 4/5 shots so they cant be healed anymore)
  • NO vehicles to control
  • classes: medics/field ops/engineer/covertops/soldier with panzer spawnkills!
  • NOT visible when shooting / running on radar
  • Demo recording
  • Spectaters
  • Timed granades
