What do you want to see in Dirty Bomb?
I think the covert ops class was actually a nice addition in W:ET. Looking at the special abilities the class had - throwing a satchel charge, stealing uniforms, sniping, throwing smoke - I would say the first three are quite useful. They are needed for “simple objectives” like destroying the ramp in Battery (and in addition they create the risk of having someone sneak through the back door) and the side gate in Braundorf. I actually like those objectives.

Now you could give the soldiers the ability to throw satchel charges and snipe (like it was in RtCW), however I don’t see a soldier stealing uniforms. Remembering how that changed the dynamic of maps such as battery (not daring to go outside the back gate, cursing on people who did and got their uniform stolen) I would definitely miss that. At the same time, soldiers seem to be a bit bland without the ability to blow stuff up (giving them explosive charges in ET:QW actually made the class comparably useful to the other classes). Removing the covert ops would make the game a bit more straight-forward…
smoke was more powerfull than the other described features.

to test this, just keep sending smoke to the middle of the square in front of bank (in goldrush) to see how long axis can defend it.

::BUMP::

I have to agree with a lot of posters. Wolf ET hit it the nail dead on and to revive the legacy please bring back, at the least, a gaming mode that is similar to Wolf ET. Bringing back maps and enhanced models, textures, lighting, etc would be an awesome blast from the past.

As far as Wolf ET players looking to rekindle the flame, there have been some side projects and forks from the original source. I suggest checking out ET-Legacy, et:Xreal and OpenWolf (the second two provide significant graphical enhancements - of course nothing like the Dirty Bomb game will provide). Though there doesn’t seem to be any recent development on these projects, ET-Legacy provides a fully functional (and active) Wolf ET experience (oobe was fine on Win 7 x64).

I’m glad to see so many ET fans on here. I feel like the entire FPS world has been dumbed down with the adaptation of shooters on consoles and major corporations that care more about profits than they do about quality. I wish Splash the best in their success with this and all future projects and really hope they can break through a quality game that outshines all the bland Modern Warfare/Battlefield clones.

Would have wish vehicules… and may be flyers … so on huge maps.
Didn’t expected Icarus drop  But there are enough games always on feet among streets.
Even BF give players abilities to drive and fly !

Everyone i know that has played enemy territory agrees that it was one of the best online multiplayer fps. There has not been any game released that has even been CLOSE to what enemy territory did. The leveling up during time spent on a server, TRICKJumping (being able to strafe-jump to get to places quicker). The skill bracket was very wide as skill would vary from person to person (which is hard to find in a game now days). Someone could be REALLY good, but when it would come down to scrims and such, it wouldn’t matter as much as actual teamwork. I’m not getting my hopes up for dirtybomb since brink kinda made me question if something like et will ever release again. I sure do hope it AT LEAST gets better and closer to what splash damage accomplished in ET… I’m not the only one, ask anyone who’s played enemy territory, they’re tell you something similar.

Ehh…

I think such exploits, though made easier in Quake 3 and Warsow to have a “Thing” for them over say UT99, are only to be really displayed in FFA/Duels personally. I’ve seen a number of Quake games and it just boils down to muscle memory on the maps. In Tribes it’s a matter of learning Ski Routes. The main attribute for these in previous games is to break predictable pathing (by avodiing contact with the floor and getting air time to do so with jumps and such, taking airborne routes) and keep the enemy guessing; if you just sped it up and made jumps bouncier, removed foot step sounds and prevented SJs, you’d basically have the same thing but a lot less Spacebar presses, and looks a bit less silly.

Team games on the other hand either don’t benefit from such a feature or wind up getting in the way of teamwork instead, with people accidentally taking the same flight path in mid-air, or the lack of powerup pickups/bouncepads etc. mean you can’t really find a use for it besides speed, no tricks or evading detection from footfalls and changing your pattern. Just speed. On top of this, evading detection is moot since there are several enemies and they’re expecting several opponents, so the amount of time someone won’t be detected from either team will be about half a second, average. Might as well just cap speed and increase the speed cap.

Everything else, oh sure yeah, good stuff.

Seems like you have never heard of QW before… sad story.

dedicated linux server binaries and shooting from the hip and a players skill shouldn’t have to do with how long he/she plays to get better weapons and also they shouldn’t have to buy upgrades. everyone should have the same weapons, armor, abilities. cough RTCW cough

Hi Everyone,

First post here coming from a long time RtCW and RtCW:ET player here - since 2001!!!. I stopped playing ET few years ago and accidently came over this when looking for new games to play - got sick of COD in a year and BF in the same time frame. Nothing has lived up to “my” expectations since ET.

Firstly I really have high hopes for this to bring back majoirty of the ET community. In saying that here are my 2c:

 1. Game config - Do no allow access to this as it caused massive discrepancy in terms of players actuall skill/ability. Many of the general graphical changes that majority of the players made back in ET/QW (such as fastsky, gamma, atmospheric effects, wolfparticles, blood hit display, etc.) should be available to be adjusted. I know that GPU’s are much better these days, however, for competitve gamplay these are an annoyance - especially to the old schoolers such as myself lol.

 2. COD/BF3 gameplay - Stay away from it if you can. What made ET so good was the fast paced action fragfest. Nowdays it’s all about the first reacion time (which is mostly governed by ping) and spraying bullets. Basically zero accuracy by tracking a target, lack of strafing technique, and dying too quickly due to high bullet damage and rate of fire.

 3. Rambo medics - No no and once again no lol. Just like spraying is overused in COD/BF due to maps being mostly CQC, so were medics with their HP, self healing ability and so forth. Class balance is crucial if this is to be a great team focused game. Many ET mods and clans tried to rebalance this, and it worked to an extend, however, medics were alwayws favoured.

 4. Maps - Perhaps create maps that open up as the player number increases - 5v5 have only fraction of the map open, 16v16 have the entire map open. This problem was solved in ET by having map voting possible, and generaly each clan had their own set of maps that catered for both CQC and long line of sight fights.

 5. Heavy weapons - My favourite weapon of all time was the panzer and I let me tell you - I loved owning snipers with it hehehe. That said, heavy weapons should be limited depending on the game type, player numbers and give flexibility to the server to change this depending on what the local community wants.

 6. ADS (Aim Down Sight) - I would prefer if this was not heavily incorporated as a means of increasing accuracy. Hipfiring meant that a player had to learn how to burst fire, while strafing and targeting in order to keep bullet spread minmum.

 7. Vehicles - We already have BF and COD. Nuff said :).

 8. Bring back many of the fave maps or allow map modding. If this game becomes a hit then having that nostalgia will be a cherry on top of a cake.

 9. Less bling on the screen, makes my gun go ting ting ting. Yes, keep the HUD simple. Do no need 50,000 things showing me this is this, and that is that. I can figure it out for myself. Oh and please have headshot sounds like in ET. This is what, perhaps, made many players want to become good. Have different head/body/team mate hit sounds.

 10. If you incorporate XP rewards, have them class specific: e.g. Enginner plating/defuse time shorter, medic health pack value higher, etc. Do not allow cross class rewards.

 11. FOV - Flexible and 90-120°. I got used to 90° but others want more. Cater for all and dont be like COD lol.

 12. Weapon Customization - I know this is a new trend but keep it simple: e.g. allow silencer for less recoil but less damage, extended magazine but slightly longer reload, weapon skins are ok IMO for those who want it, no dual handling of any weapons.

 13. VSAYS - What more can I say. This was such a great feature and allowed for some humor - v46.

I can’t thnk of anymore right now and I do not want to be overly specific as this will end up being a wall of text - it already looks like it lol.

Anyways, finger crossed for this game.

As I would say in ET - V586

Besides playing the actual game, making maps for the game can be just as much fun.
If the idea of dedicated servers comes through, then this is a big plus, since the community will evolve the game itself, by creating new maps.
Good maps will be played allot and bad maps are left behind, so the game gets better and better.
And of course the Esports part

Please make it easier than in WolfET, GtkRadiant wasn’t the most friendly program to use

(Nail) #290

Dirty Bomb uses Unreal Engine, grab the UDK and have a look

(MoonOnAStick) #291

Have SD given any hint that they will enable community made maps? It would certainly make sense to get custom mappers involved early (during the beta) but I wouldn’t want anyone to waste their time.

(jamiewalker) #292

Campaign limited unlocks where great! they where just the right level between having to work for them and not crying too hard when theywhere gone next campaign.

Movement isessential, dont really eant to see a locked in animation style jump over obstaclekind of feel.

I like the idea of customizable chars like tf2, just watch the gameplay balance whennew weaps/ items are released.

A mix between close and open range combat.

Sexual hud and menu’s

LAN please allow us social gamers to experience the game with 5 ping, so often looked over these days

Xhair customisation,

Collisions that allow youto jump from that crate to that staircase!

Cookable grenades!

NO AUTO HEALTH REGEN PLEASE FOR EFF SAKE

changeable name

Voip

No prone plz

Toolkit for map making!!!

Adjustable settings ie fov ect

End of round stats

Persistent stats eg bf3

Nipples
1) Class based objective based gameplay
2) Per game unlocks, no longterm unlock system (I know this will not happen)
3) Dedicated servers (This will likely not happen either, being f2p and all at most it’ll be a monopoly-rent-service)
4) Medium/big sized maps
5) Demo recording
6) Support for 2v2 to 32v32
7) Support for spectating
Liked and approved of everything in this list. Would add:

Proper rcon support with detailed logs for per server stats and third party rcon tools like B3. doubt it will happen.

Global/team/squad based voip.

(rana) #294

-ET based gameplay!
-Stopwatch/Objective
-Hitsounds/Strafing like ET !!!
-Crosshair like ET

(Jamieson) #295

I think SD needs to learn from W:ET, ETQW and Brink and use all of their positives whilst removing their weaknesses or bad points. For me the game play in ET was phenomenal and I’ve never seen anything like it, truly the shooting style and core game mechanics were addictive, so if you’re going to do anything with Dirty Bomb then make the combat as fast and furious as it was in W:ET.

Broken down:

 1. Infantry only.
 2. No Iron sights unless used on sniper rifles.
 3. Combine the sprinting and movement in W:ET, ETQW and Brink together. Like in W:ET allow sprinting in combat yet use the constant sprinting from ETQW with Brink’s SMART system + manual trick jumps.
 4. Keep the emphasis on class/team/objective based game play that all of the titles have seen.
 5. Support competition and allow demos.
 6. A proper weapon bank with independent buttons for selecting tools and equipment.
 7. Proper PC customization in all levels RE: configs and game settings.
 8. If ranks and xp have to be incorporated then at least make them only superficial and not game breaking.

(Patriotqube) #296

I want to see the second comming of WET, by attaching the movements and weaponhandlings from that, then ad gfx from a more modern fps game like bf or cod.

make a good cheat protector
and give us a very good rcon tool
dedicated linux servers

and youll all see me smile

(Prime8) #297

Dedicated servers!!!
Focus on coordinated team play
Editable configs
Fast paced!!! - I want Q3 rollerskating action, reality mechanics don’t make for a fun shooter, they make a tedious one.
Lean (no fire / no vis lean like in RTCW)
For the love of all that is holy, no vehicles
Mapping/Modding toolkit
Smaller maps - or objective gated maps.

(AntOO14) #298

Since ET is the best game made ever i would like to see a remake for it, but since that not happens i would say for DB:

ET based gameplay
Stopwatch/Objective
Dedicated servers
Crosshairs like in ET
Fast paced gameplay
begin from the scratch each round and lvl up

(slanir) #299

Fast paced gameplay

as little randomness as possible (weapon spread for example)

Matchmaking, or some kind of built-in system for people to organize competitive play

quality splash damage-gameplay (ET, ETQW)

(spacecadet3) #300

Hope you guys are still reading these, sorry for redundancy

I would love to have DB be very familiar to ET when I jump in.
-I want the same 3HS kills
-No Iron sights. I feel this slows down all games by making players feel they need to scope to get the accuracy to headshot
-Same movement as in ET. Some other games on the market are too slow. this results in whoever gets the drop first gets the kill 90% of the time. while in ET you can get backraged and still manage to turn around and get the kill if you’re skilled
-I want to see limits on explosives. I’ve been playing ET for about 6-7 years and the servers I’ve been visiting lately have way too much nade spam/arty/panzer/mortar.
-I would love to see a covert ops class, I like the idea of being able to disguise. It used to be my favorite thing to do until mods like jaymod added the “Disguised Enemy!” on mouseover
-I dont like some of the player skins I saw in the trailer and game-play video. The class with the large backpack… its way too huge. I also don’t like the cowboy hate or the female player. The cowboy hate reminds me, and looks like a copy of, team fortress sniper class. looks too cartoony for me
-I dont like SMART movement, looks cool but slows the game down

The short version is. I want this to be very close to Wolf: ET with new weapons.
