What do you want from Dirty Bomb web services?

(Dragonji) #41

Something like this might be helpful.

(Ashog) #42

yes, was going to add the link too, but forgot. Tourney cc was used for the several last ETQW cups and was pretty simple but okay/sufficient.

(Runeforce) #43

I think players should have the option to entirely turn off all stat tracking. And an option to keep stats private.

(tokamak) #44

I want an integrated tournament tree that allows league hosts to run their leagues fully automated and give all contenders and spectators a clear picture of the schedule and the competition. After the league is done the entire tree then serves as a platform to obtain replays and statistics from each match all interconnected with the ladder.

(Breo) #45

Also in BF3 you can reset your stats (with a premium account) probably that’s a nice feature aswell?

(Dragonji) #46

Nice feature, that’s for sure, it sounds even nicer if it’s avi only for premium so SD could earn some cash.

Stats

  • Option to reset stats
  • Option as to how you wish to share your stats (private - friends only - global)
  • Graphs to show progress over time of your score per minute / K:D / etc

App ideas
If there is an app, it would be cool to have an overview of your stats, but a bit overkill.
In battlelog you can pick your loadout in your webbrowser. If the classes in DB have the same complexity and the option to have multiple layouts it would be cool if you could change your layouts from your phone while you play. So when you die or between matches, you can grab your phone and edit your loadouts without having to changes windows on your computer.

I like having lots of stats like accuracy and headshot percentage etc so you can see what needs improving or which weapons you are the best with. On the other hand I hate global systems where you can view everybody’s stats since it’s used for is gloating and hackusations. I’m more interested in having a good time then comparing my stats to somebody else or being talked down to because my accuracy is 2% lower than somebody else.

(tokamak) #48

Indeed, that sounds like one of the most desirable and least disruptive purchasable features. Perhaps SD could charge ingame currency per reset. If that’s then the same currency non-payers can obtain then everyone can buy a reset when they feel like it.

Shouldn’t be cheap however, maybe it’s best to do it like the WoW talents. In WoW the cost of a talent tree reset accumulates exponentially every time you use it. Then it diminishes again over time so players that rarely do it can do it cheap and the players that often do it need to pay a lot more.

wow

oh weh oh weh

(prophett) #50

Definitely include kdr, headshots, accuracy, damage given, etc…

(prophett) #51

This!
On the score reporting page include a space for screenshot and demo upload, from which a “demo/recording of the week” could be grabbed from and displayed on the main page somewhere, depending on what rating or how many views it got.

(tokamak) #52

Yes! Just like Valve is facilitating it´s the game community pages, in a similar vein each tournament / league can be it’s own community hub.

What’s so important about this is that you make the tournaments visible to everyone. They’re no longer played in some back room of the internet with private forums and all, no they’re displayed proudly in the game, their results and replays and reviews and comments and every single ****ing detail you can think of.

I would like a system almost the same as you made for ETQW, but i would prefer it to be made so we in our community can run it locally which means it should only register data from the servers we choose to run, and it should have some sort of interaction with our homepage

example:

would be cool if it could make some awards like
player of the months
slaughter of the months
prey of the months
etc etc

and make those show on our communitysite and on our servers.

and yeah i would pay for such a program no doubt

also would be good if there where a global site for all servers, that could strem names of top players (defined by some standard choosen for that) into all servers.

so our servers would show somthing like this:
Global server

DB Whore xxxxxx has now played xxx hours
DB Slaughter now has xxx Kills
DB Prey now has been killed xxxx Times
XXXX is the best engy worldwide - xxxxx engypoints recieved
XXXX is the best Medic worldwide - xxxxx revives given
and so on

then we could have the same running for our community somthing like this

Qubenet Whore xxxxxx has now played xxx hours
Qubenet Slaughter now has xxx Kills
Qubenet Prey now has been killed xxxx Times
XXXX is the best engy in Qubenet Community - xxxxx engypoints recieved
XXXX is the best Medic in Qubenet Coimmunity - xxxxx revives given
and so on

My thoughts, would be cool imho

and again i would like to have those added on my homepage also

I think an environment/system like this would involve and attract the whole community the best way. It has something for every type of gamer but also for audiences who have the power to attract new players to the game (Casual developers and video streamers).

Some important possibilities come with this system:

  • Free marketing channels:
    • The ability for public speakers to broadcast matches to the public
    • Mobile apps attract others to see what current players are doing on their phone
  • Smart ways to keep casual players involved:
    • Push notification to your mobile (Direct match invites, Chat with friends, DB Updates)
    • Schedule events with your friends or clan
  • Maximum use of internet channels trough DB on the web, your mobile and in-game chats, VoIP, video streaming and follow matches on the stats site and on your mobile.
  • Free extending of services trough a freely available API for casual developers. The can combine social-, competitive- and stats services in ways you might never come up with. Those will be a free benefit for the community.
  • And a lot of other possibilities which I won’t sum up because it is to much.

The most important factors of W:ET which made the game survive for over 10 years:

  • Free to Play (DB Check!)
  • Custom maps and mods (?)
  • Self serverhosting (?)
  • Stat sites (Probably DB check)
  • Competitions (Probably DB check)

Some features that could made DB survive even longer:

  • An always connected social platform
  • Other services extending the game out of the original application

So, in my point of view this structure would be best for DB if it wants to support almost everything imaginable.

(Dragonji) #55

Cannot see Windows Phone in MOBILE APP :frowning:

(Wezelkrozum) #56

And that’s where the API kicks in! SD could focus on the development of the Android and iOS app (which are the most used mobile OS’s) where a casual devver has the opportunity to develop a Windows Phone app because they can use the public API webservice.

(Ashog) #57

The game will not survive more than 2 years w/o custom maps. Point.

(murka) #58

One thing i never understand about the smartphone trend is why every website should make an app for itself. Wouldn’t it be better to just make the website and make sure it is also easy to navigate in a smartphone(don’t use stuff like menus where mouse hover shows submenus and click goes to some page). This way you only need to do it once. Everyone running a pc, smartphone, smart-tv or any web-browsing capable device could use it.

(scre4m.) #59

lies.

Actually quite few people are really interested in this. It’s nice to have them, but by far not the point that will make or brake DB. If the maps SD releases are not enough the game won’t be played anyway. And if they are good it will be played. With or without custom maps.

Long time interest in a games comes with new content. If SD brings out some good maps for release and keeps releasing them, we won´t need custom maps.
But 2 years is a long time for a no-AAA-title, i´m pretty sure we need some kind of mod-tools to keep the game alive.
