What do you think about this mod

(th0rn3) #1

Hi I just downloaded SDK and Iam thinking about a new mod

Still No Name - An Ultimate Battle Experience (any suggestions for the name?)

plans:

 • Slower running speed
 • Lower jumps
 • More recoil
 • Realistic firing rate
 • A LOT of new guns
 • No same guns for different teams
 • Longer reloading
 • New voice/radio chats
 • New realistic sounds
 • Shooting while leaning
 • Kicking
 • Punching with gun
 • New skill system (maybe 50 different skills (50 lvl medic? Hmm))
 • More ranks
 • Longer map playing (what do you think about 2 hrs?)
 • Slightly different player models (i.e.: soldiers with grenades on the belts, medics w medic kits, engies w tools, etc)
 • Taking helmet from the ground

Things that would be nice, but dunno if I can make it:

 • Different tools for engies
 • No full revive (like in reality if you are injured, medics can only help you a bit)
 • Draining health for wounded (unless self bandage)
 • Smoke drains health (unless breath is holded)
 • Heroes (dive under grenade to save friends)
 • Player holding his helmet while sprinting (cant shoot too)
 • After one shot under water, gun jams and cannot shoot, unless fixed by field ops)
 • Body dragging/carrying
 • Maybe long reviving, so body dragging will be very useful
 • Human shield
 • Any class can pick health/ammo from the cabinets and take it with them (or maybe having one at spawn time?)
 • Longer first aid healing
 • Leg/arm breaking
 • Putting ammo into a clip (if clip has 15 ammo and you reload, you have to put ammo into that 15 ammo clip, in order for it to have 30 ammo. Its hard to explain but I think you understand)
 • Shooting in a leg decreases speed
 • Shooting in an arm decreases accuracy and increases recoil
 • Shooting in a helmet doesn’t take off any health, but makes a headache (like poisoned in nq just less swinging)
 • Sometimes jamming gun (fld ops can fix it)
 • Medics have limited health packs
 • Covert Ops can pick locks (when not disguised, when disguised can easily open doors)
 • Thick wood/metal penetrating bullets
 • Engineers can make trenches
 • Kamikazes (wrap grenades around yourself and run into enemy base)
 • Recon planes (shows all enemy units, which are not in buildings)
 • Trap mines (plant a landmine and pull a 2m wire in some direction. Someone kicks the wire and, hiss… BOOOM)

Insane, huh? I forgot 2/3 of my ideas when typing

More to come soon

Comment and suggest

Sounds cool and fresh. But are you sure you can handle all of that? It’s gonna take years. Too bad I’m still stuck on learning my coding. I stucked to compiler, my visual c++ doesn’t compile, altho I added the platform sdk+ tons of different packages for it. But I’ve finished 1.0001 % of my studies.

(th0rn3) #3

Well of course I wont handle this alone. I will look for people who want to mod with me, later, when I collect enough suggestions, opinions, etc. Im writting a new chat now.
P.S. If you need any help with c++, you can pm me

Some of these things are quite daunting indeed.

If you’re serious about this, make sure you try to tackle it in (easier) steps. For example, start with compiling the SDK, learning basic ANSI C++ and C to read the code (I prefer them in that order, as C++ allows you to make simple tutorial programs while not having to mess around with I/O routines) and doing small test changes without crashing the game.

Once you get that down, you might start to think about all the added stuff (at that point, do make sure that those small changes do not have bugs - if they do, start over).

Learning from ETPub or other mods could help you in the implementation of some details, although I would keep away from them for quite a while. Everyone has his own programming style and it can be more detrimental if you take over some other person’s quirks (mostly seen in code style and writing loops) rather than knowing the difference between it all.

Anyway, the best of luck with your mod.

Thanks kamikazee, Im serious with this mod (atleast the first part).
That every people have their own programming style, I learnt in programming school 1.5 yrs ago.
Thanks for the tips

Well I just installed SDK, started to reading it. After awhile I understood someparts and would’ve been able to change some little stuff, like give guns, ammos and stuff like that. That’s with like 3-4 hours by reading the code, with no experience before. (That’s the most natural learning process for ME)

Then I got stucked with the compiler, and I started reading some C basics tutorial. And moved nowhere. I’m pretty sure I’ll start learning when I can get the compiler working, start changing stuff by reading the code, and that way slowly learn the code. When I understand enough, I’ll start reading tutorials.

Read that and then maybe think about your mod a bit more. Go with simple stuff and expand from there and don’t try to do it all yourself.

Kamikazee, check your PMs please :).

I think we’ll never see this mod finished

(Avoc) #9

Isn’t there already a realistic ET mod called True Combat Elite? Those guys made some awesome work and they have been working on it for years. And it still is nowhere near completion.

(isbowhten) #10

hey i do not know anything about c++ or modding but i can program very fine with “turbo pascal” xD and delphi (No system - programming!).
if you would learn C++ to me (i have turbo c++ 3.1 and CBuilder (<- but in there i permanent damage the IDE)) i could and want help you

I think we’ll never see this mod finished

yup … without beeing a professional programer you wont realisize new behavior/features … im already working on my own mod … but i think it will be a mix of NQ and ETP with new weapons … so good luck

(th0rn3) #12

taking some good logics and the help of some smart people, I will finish the first part (as you noticed the 1st part is plans, and the 2nd part is “Things that would be nice, but dunno if I can make it”)

(stealth6) #13

well I wouldn’t play it even if you finished it haha.
You are basically taking ET and making a new game out of it, different gameplay etc…

No thank you, I alreasy find T:CE and the other one too much reality

50 levels sounds nice but thats about it haha, slower moving! :frowning: probs gonna take tj out then too…
more recoil… 2hrs for 1 map!

nope definately not for me

(-SSF-Sage) #14

What makes you not to be able to have 2 hrs per map, with the exsisting ET. Just make a proper map for it and put timelimits.

(stealth6) #15

or it would be repetitive and boring, or it would be big in file size, give you a bad fps, kick noobs who don’t raise there megs…

thats why

Well who said you have to go nuts on detailing and picture quality/size?
- New skill system (maybe 50 different skills (50 lvl medic? Hmm))
This brings up an anecdote from No Quarter:
At one point, it was considered that 4 skill levels were not enough and they were increased to 9 levels for each skill.
However, now the point came up what each skill level should bring something new, or people wouldn’t actually receive an incentive from the XP system. So that’s why the community had to come up with ideas, seeing how the developers could not fill out all awards. But even as to today, not every skill level has an award, as can be see on the No Quarter: Class skills page.

(th0rn3) #18

I love long playing. And I love realism. Im not expecting that a lot ppl will play this, because a lot of gamers hate realism. And belive me, I will think of something to fill those 50 skills

(Roeltje) #19

Hahahaha I don’t want to be rude, but what you put here is about the entire workload for a completely new game.

And I really find it hard to take this serious when you come up with things like 50 different skills and diving on grenades to save friends and all that crazy stuff while your profile says you are 14 years old :stuck_out_tongue:

If you DO manage to make a mod like this, I’ll buy you a beer  (you are probably allowed to drink them by that time)

(isbowhten) #20

age has nothing to say
