what card is better?

(.fa.Cue) #1

k i want to know what card is better? the (gforce fx5200) or the (gforce4 ti4600)

(petameta) #2

AFAIK the ti4600 should be better. The fx5200 is the replacement of the mx-series, which was never very good.

(Sick Boy) #3

the 4600

(leifhv) #4

The ti4600 is a much better card…only advandage of the 5200 is DX9 effects but the card is a very poor performer. At least for ET DX9 don’t matter at all since it’s a DX8.1 generation game.

the 4600 sucks in my opinion compared to the 4200. =D

EDIT: LoL apparently even the “FX 5300” sucks compared to the 4200… heheh, I’ve had several 4200’s (mainly becuase they’re so cheap, and I’m generous that I practically gave them away) and they’ve never given me any problems, and one of the best values I’ve ever seen.

(.fa.Cue) #7

k thanks for the info.

(.fa.Cue) #8

well but the thing is my fx5200 had 256mb, and the ti4600 had 128mb, so would the ti still be better?

(Sick Boy) #9

256MB on a fx5200 is some serious overkill…but the ti4600 is still faster

(.fa.Cue) #10

serious overkll? what do you mean

(Zombie13) #11

I wasn’t aware nvidia released 256mb configurations of the FX5200, atleast you run high quality in doom3 with enough texture memory

do you think the reason for my bad fps is because i only got a 1.5ghz cpu

(.fa.Cue) #13

its a amd athlon xp 1800 1.5ghz

(.fa.Cue) #14

i think

(Chappy) #15

What’s your average fps? I’ve got an intel celeron w/ 755mhz (:disgust:), 192mb ram, and a GeForce4 Ti4200, and I’m able to mantain a stable 43 FPS, which works fine for me, though maybe not for you. Have you tweaked all your gfx settings to the lowest settings?

(no_shad) #16

The fx5200 is a really bad card, a friend of mine owns a xp2800+ and 256mb fx5200, even at 800x600 i find that ET is unplayable.
I have a xp2000+ and recently upgraded from a 128mb ti4800se to a 256mb fx5950u, both cards are in a league of their own compared to the fx5200.
The amount of memory on a card means very little to me, and in the case of 256mb on a 5200, is quite laughable.

(bani) #17

fx5200 is just barely faster than a gf4-mx440. its a lowend card, any ti-class card will wipe the floor with them.

i have both cards (gf4-mx440 and an fx5200), as well as a shiny new 6800. the 6800 is uber overkill for ET (150fps on radar with grass), but i bought it for doom3

doom3 sucks so unlucky YUO :frowning:
