What Can SD Do?

(hawkeyeguy99) #1

After reading @Tanker_Ray’s comment on the update notes I thought it would be worth making a post about this. I think most of us are at various levels of frustration with the game. We are either fed up completely and have stopped playing, or are just irritated that Thunder is still Thunder. I wanted to create a thread for us to share our expectations of communication from SD and Shoe. Let me be clear, this is not a place to share your problems with the game itself. This is a place to attempt to communicate to Shoe and therefore SD about what we want to know/get updates on. Here’s my list:

1. What are you working on EXACTLY?
Every week you put up the dev videos and they’re great, but they are really generic. They don’t inspire me to keep playing or get that excited about continuing to play in the future. Don’t get me wrong, the dockyard update is a great step in the right direction, but that was nearly a year coming. Here’s what I want: what did the team work on this week? What bugs specifically are being fixed? What’s the art team working on this week? I don’t really care about if it’s small or not, just help curb my expectations.

2. What are your plans for the future?
Do you have a list of things that you need to accomplish before you consider the game out of beta? Where are you in that list? Do you have future content plans beyond crafting/maps/mercs? Is there a generic release date window that your team wants to hit?

That’s what I have so far, but I think these two simple things would go a long way to repairing relationships with the community and SD. Not only that but it’d give veterans a reason to stay and people who have left a reason to come back. Give us something to play for.

Sadly that’s the schizophrenic nature of DB.
Great core gameplay, providing good foundation, but lack of content and balancing updates.

Dockyard map was alright, but the whole update wasn’t as grand as SD hyped it up. Really feels like something was missing…

The best way to dealt with it, is probably go hibernating/putting DB on back burner.
Care for a cryogenic sleep?

I was just about to write a post that included some stuff about this… but am still writing. agreed though.

Dockyard was just as dissapointing as I suspected it to be, still no balancing patches

(onLooSe) #5

What were they doing this week? It’s obvious - working on 2.1 GB files swap.

What will they work on this week? It’s obvious - they are watching Echo stats and Graphs as of today for the next six months or so, so they can move few crates in Dockyard then.

You are putting way too much thought into this when things are pretty simple and crystal clear. You might laugh but it is what it is

As far as i remember Shoe in some video said that balancing patch will come after dockyard.

(blufflord) #7

wow so many people here seem to be disappointed with dockyard… i personally love it so far (altho i’ve only been able to find 3 server playing it XD)

Yeah i was expecting disappointed people because most of the community does not like Dome. They would prefer some other linear airstrike spamfest (yeah right Chapel 2.0).
And another source of frustration is their unrealistic expectation about released patch. It is quite surprising for me that people here still believe in miracles. I thought that community is used to not to expect anything. Especially when they split with Nexon and been hiring new staff for past few months.

@hawkeyeguy99 i remember theres a discussion like this.

they just gonna wave it off tho.
we dont know what they are doing and they wont tell us.

they gonna leak something, hype ensue, but then there will be nothing

hell, they havent even worked on turtle AT ALL.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #10

Development pace is glacial, we wish it was faster. Fin.

This is a little ridiculous though. SD pls :’(

They need to remove the BETA tag , way i see it as soon as you have a working ingame store for real £££ its a released game . I still laugh/cry when i see it upon loading up .

(OwynTyler) #12

" hurr durr we’r working very very hard, and yes changing this one little number is very important so we’ll be setting a higher priority on it, still it gonna take three or more months, do not worry"

:expressionless:

(Wolf_Darkrose) #13

OK. lets put it this way. if they told us anything of what they are doing. the more detail heavy people would find out the stuff they need. since DB devs love to put hints in all the vids they make.

So basically, a free to play game cannot gain any revenue until the game is fully finished? This is a sure way to fail.

How will they make money to pay their employees during development?
How will they make sure that what they start selling after release will actually be enough to cover the initial development and continued sustainability of the game?

The game is in a beta state because it is in unfinished. Having things you can spend real money on has nothing to do with it.

There are countless games that follow this exact same practice and there is nothing wrong with that.

Removing the BETA tag from the game won’t make it any better, only continued updates and content will.

This is not beta, not because they need money from whoever wants to support them… it’s not beta, 'cuz you don’t test anything. When was the last time you tested something? Care to explain to me what’s the beta in this? It’s stale for who knows how long. It’s on autopilot and 1 map in development for almost 2 years doesn’t change anything.

game is tested every day, just because you don’t participate doesn’t make it not happen

How do you make any sense at all? Gathering handful of ppl and even disregarding the little constructive criticism you get there is not testing at all. At this point in time it’s pretty clear there’s nothing to test even.

Private TS launched more than year + ago and nothing got added. What are my choices here… let’s see:

  1. Suggestions that SD does are pretty bad and the PTS deems them invalid.
  2. Nothing is being tested.

The 1 and 1/2 year old map really doesn’t count… if that’s what you are “testing” there … hahaha nice

And Private test server in indie game is never a good idea… especially when there’s nothing to hide. Damn the market is so flooded with fast paced fps shooters. From who should I steal ideas first? Reflex? I’m really trying to think about fast paced shooter being the non dead arena style (which quake tries to revive) and not being a FPS moba… So much titles… Can’t think of a single one tbh. What’s there to steal actually? Map drawings?

Because the game is not updated as fast as you, and others want it to does not make it not a Beta.

Another sure way to fail… release the game before it is ready.

People complain about a bunch of things, be it bugs, features, or lack there of… yet you seem to think its release worthy. Why?

It’s not release worthy by a long shot… I never said that. The beta is non existing when that’s the whole idea. This is not blizzard and there’s nothing really to hide, but funny enough some ppl think this is the gold mine, when you can’t see single game trying to copy this format.
