What are your FOV settings?

(ThiagoJaqueta) #41

I put it on the maximum possible, since I usually stick with the CQBs. It’s easier to track the opponents, also harder to get flanked.

(CagdGoose3) #42

I currently use the default FoV settings; I don’t typically alter that setting in games. Not to mention the fact I’ve become accustom to game’s base-FoV settings, it’d most likely throw me off greatly if I was to alter it now.

For the longest time Phoenix was my primary mercenary, although I’ve found myself using Kira as of late. I’ve found I’m best with support-based mercenaries.

(darlingClaymore) #43

Standard smallest, I am not blind or slow so I use this, I don’t like game looking like a telescope from 1800s.

(wiski) #44

I have used 90-110 FOV just fine on 19" screens.

I rarely do “in between”. fov to the max, mouse sensi to the max.

My main merc? Take the hint from the profile picture maybe ?
What do you think is my fav merc ? Use as a hint my profile pic ^^
Could be
Skyhammer, there is some sky
Phantom, as he clearly is on this picture
Stoker, might no be cluds but smoke
Bushwacker, if you consider that tree to be a bush

Well, it’s kinda hard to mention the other and too lazy to continue…

FoV is so misunderstood. 90 in DirtyBomb is very high. 90 in CS is average, 90 in Tribes Ascend is very low, etc…

90 is considered the standard FoV for PC gaming, and anything less is shit. Well it entirely depends on what game/engine we’re talking about. The 90 FoV which was considered standard back in the days is absolutely shit today, it was referring to the horizontal FoV, and since the aspect ratio changed from 4:3 and 5:4 to 16:9, 90 horizontal is now very low, ~107 is the new 90. But DB doesn’t use horizontal FoV, it uses vertical, and 107 horizontal in vertical is ~76. Then you have games like CS that doesn’t use either of those, not gonna go into it, but yeah, FoV is not standardized, and 90 is not always 90.

So no 90 is not the optimal setting, not at all.

85 in DB, but I play with 85 or 90 in any and every FPS I play. It’s a good middle ground between total width information and far out detail precision. Since I play everything and by that I mean I constantly rotate between weapons proposed in an FPS (that includes mercs in DB) I need to have a constant setting in which I can both perform well in close range and long range.

(RazielWarmonic) #49

A nice, solid 82 is a good FoV for me.

(god1) #50
 1. I’ve tried lower settings but my aim is best at 100 even at long ranges.

(CirclesofJerk) #51

100 FOV with Thunder 24/7

(Aazhyd) #52

I’m using a laptop that hasn’t got a huge screen, so I haven’t set my FOV higher.
Or am I wrong and is it better to set it higher even on a smaller screen?

(Izzy) #53

People complains that high fov makes the game hard too see. Personally, I have a harder time to distinguish phantom than playing with high fov. I bet people wearing glasses have never seen a phantom on the field.

Although I’m sure some will disagree, increasing FOV just puts more information in your screen. The higher the FOV the more that information is compressed, the lower FOV, the less compressed that information is, but you lose information at the borders.

Hence, on a big screen and big resolution you have lots of pixels and enough physical screen range to properly see that information, even at high FOV’s. On smaller screens with smaller resolutions its better to decrease FOV and lose some additional vision on the sides rather than have enemies in the distance (centre of screen) become single pixels and unrecognizable.

(SereneFlight) #55

I think I have it set to 100 or something like that. Don’t really get motion sickness with lower FoV (well… there are couple games which have caused that with a low FoV) but since I see moar with higher FoV so I don’t really see any reason to use lower FoV with 1080 res.

(Whens_Phoenix) #56

First thing I do is max the FOV. I don’t go beyond 120 though, if a game even lets you go that far in the first place.

(Snack Toxin) #57

Max FoV. I like to get as much info on screen as possible.

(Martín) #58

+85 so you have more enemies in your screen to make them sleep or move like worms.
