65, I mostly play Arty. I don’t see why I’d need a large FoV, so I’ve just gotten used to 65.
This is a real Signature.
What are your FOV settings?
I’m at 100. I play on a tv and that feels conformable to me. My fav merc is Kira, but I have more time on Proxy.
I play on 65.
I don’t really feel the need to play on a higher fov.
Considering I play Kira 93% of the time, seeing these heads is important.
Don’t worry Amerika, I took that into account. I just like a wide view.
I actually have a friend that plays at 90 FoV horizontal in every other game but plays at 90 vertical in DB simply because it says 90. It’s like the number he uses matters more than how much of a fishbowl his screen is. It’s really weird to me…especially if you try going between different games as keeping things similar between games helps dramatically.
you must have a gigantic screen!
I usually play 80, but sometimes switch to 75, more than enough to track people in close quarters, and enemies at range arent cheese sticks.
It’s less about the screen size and more about how much of the game you can see. You see more in the game with a 100 FOV than you do with an 85 FOV, no matter the size of the screen.
If someone is close to me but a bit to the side they might not actually show on my screen if my FOV is too low.
80, recently switch to a slightly lower sense in order to have smoother tracking.
If I play any game that has an FOV below 90 I don’t get motion sick, but I get that confused feeling that predates motion sickness. I’ve had it where I’ve been playing a new game, and I’m like “Something is really off here. Is there not enough Oxygen in the room?” And then I check the settings and the FOV is like 80 and I’m like “Curse you CoD for being industry standard!”
Other people will actually do get proper sick. TotalBiscuit always rants about how he does, for a popular example.
Personally I put my FOV at 95, I tried 110 on different games, but usually the Fisheye effect is annoying. 95 seems the best.
How you play the game has nothing to do with it, but it is true that higher FOV wouldn’t be important from a gameplay point to someone who just snipes with Vasilli all day.
Still, FOV isn’t primarily about gameplay, it’s about your brain being able to feel comfortable.
I use the default. The higher the FoV, typically, the smaller everything appears on the screen the further away they are. This can make it harder to spot people from a distance and, since I like to play Vasilli and I’m not a stand still scoped in Vasilli, I need to be able to detect the little things from standard view.
The odds of being flanked in most scenarios is pretty minimal anyways, so it’s not like I need the extra FoV. I make up for it with twitch reactions from playing arena shooters anyways.
@wiski if your screen is small then high fov will make things tiny on your screen, good luck fighting long range then
Age has a lot to do with it, at least for me. I used to play at 105 horizontal in RTCW and ET about 10-15 years ago. In Dirty Bomb I’m down to about 68 vertical (I think) simply because I’m having a harder time seeing this game’s smaller mercs far away. As for fishbowling with lower fov? Well I think players with good situational awareness can over come it. Basically like sensitivity it all boils down to individual comfort.
Now I feel silly for not realizing DB uses vertical FOV. Hopefully my brain can get used to 90 horizontal again lol.
Max, cause whyyyy not. Maximum the game let’s of course, not doing console commands to get 360 view!
I rarely do “in between”. fov to the max, mouse sensi to the max.
My main merc? Take the hint from the profile picture maybe ?
What do you think is my fav merc ? Use as a hint my profile pic ^^
It depends what merc I play. Mostly I use 85 but with sparps I use 65
This thread made me try out different FOV’s. Interesting to see what I’ll end up with.
