Weird problem with wolfenstein ET

Hello

The other day my faithfull single cored 3.0 ghz cpu died… so i had to buy me a brand new dual core thingy… with the latest gfx card ( geforce 9700 gt )

Totally happy with all the nice new toys … i first tried to play ET… cuz that’s the reason i have this pc… to play wolfenstein ET

Everything went fine… had a little sound lag but that was fixed in the options pannel ingame
after a few maps i decided it was enough for that moment… since i had many more nice games i wanted to test

after a few hours i wanted to play ET again… game stared up fine… i connected to my favorite server and it said… “awaiting gamestate” as always.

Only…
it kept on saying that… for 30 seconds… a minute… 2 minutes…
nothing…

so i disconnected and tried again…
nothing…

i updated pb manually… checked for the latest drivers for my gfx
Nothing…

I checked and reinstalled latest patches… ( wich i had)
nothing…

So i decided i had to reinstall the game… and so i did.
and when i reconnected… everything was fine again… :slight_smile:
but when i disconnected for some food… and reconnected an hour later…
it had the same problem again… awaiting gamestate… 10 sec 20 sec… 30 sec…
nothing… and when i reinstall… i can play a nother 2 or 3 maps before it just wont enter the game

i have tried realy everything what i and others can think of… my friend has a quadcore and has the same problem so together we have been trying to get it to work…
but the problem percists

can anyone please help us!!

System specs:

Inter dual core
nvidia geforce 9700
2 gb ddr2 ram
500 gb hdd
Xfi 5.1 soundcard

very importantly, i don’t have vista running… but XP
my friend has similar system specs… but he runs vista

Please tell me this is a common problem that can be fixed easily…

make sure you have PnkBstr A.exe and PnkBstr B.exe allowed in firewall

i’ve got exacly the same problem on Vista had no problems with my old computer with lower specs, which i am not bothering about because i know it doesn’t have to do with the specs of the pc.

but now my problem what you said with pnkbstr, a and b i don’t even see them which i did on my old computer and i got that the same protected as this one, now i also know that pnkbstr a and b.exe i could see at task messenger but i also don’t see them there on this computer

what may this be?

please help me it’s kinda anoying i’ve got a server and clan but i am unable to play the game.

btw it has to do something with punkbuster, because a home made host from a friend of mine i could join and had no problems but other servers i am unable to join.

Tried that, also see it now at my firewall, got it put to the part that it’s allowed true the firewall, but it still not solves my problem, do you maybe have another solution?

Edit: i do have one single little change though, i have saying now Awaiting challenge … 1,2,3 at first i had awaiting connection or awaiting gamestate.

still seems to be an issue with punkbuster, have you tried updating firmware in your router ?

never done that before could you give a little guidance, would be awsome.

Edit: but how come i have to do something with my router and the game works perfectly on my old computer with windows xp on the same router even the same cable to the router.

sorry, missed the Vista part, try running as admin, right click wolf icon and select there

i am xperiencing the same prob. all i did is updating PB and bang ET isnt working today :frowning:

well i already start it up as adminstrator i knew that mate :slight_smile: but thanks for the advice, i rebooted the computer and went eating then when i came back i tested it and i could come into all servers i wanted suddenly (not because of admin, i already activated that the day before), i think the pb started working afther the reboot, today it still is working so thanks for the help matey i own you one.

yeah i know i used the wrong Quote, thanks for the help and that mentioning of the reboot wasn’t really necesarry, with a bit of logicaly thinking i would have thought of that my self, thanks again for all the help.

Can you help me with something else, i also play call of duty now sometimes call of duty freeze then i get black screen for a few seconds and then it’s allright again, i also get the message when i start the multi player punkbuster is not activated or something like that.

ill post you my spec for my computer but i don’t think it has to do anything with that.

it’s a notebook,

intel core 2 duo, t5550 1,83 ghz.
DDR 2 - 3 gig intern.
Nvidia geforce 8600 GT.
410gig HDD.
Soundblaster 5.1 surround.

i also got a connection speed of 2mb per second, and i mostly download with 1,5mb per second.

how am i able to activate punkbuster for call of duty 4, and does that drop out in game once in a while have anything to do with punkbuster? i also got a laggspike just afther that drop-out.

i know my graphic card drivers are up to date, my soundcard too.
i start it up with adminstrator, i also unlocked the special admin account so you don’t have to set this up everytime you play a new game, i also tried to start it with xp services pack2, which you also can do true right click and then properties.
i’ve tried to search abit on the internet but found no solution.

should work for all pb enabled games
