Webprocessing stats?

(Vam) #1

Wonder when we’ll see the game. Anyways I’ve searched the forums and never seen anything about the stats engine. Will web applications be able to tap into the stats? Like XML or something else?

Since this nice delay has been put upon us I’ve been coding a league system for our site so players can report their points but I’d much prefer if people that signup we can simply download their official points instead.

stats = bullshit
judge players by stats = bullshit²

There will be a persistant stat ranking system, which you can probably use for your own purposes. Such things exist for ET like splatterladder, etc.

However I agree with darki stats = bullshit…I certainly don’t care about them. It is just for people who want to show off their e-penis. You get 6 months for that.

Agree

Can someone give me atleast one good reason why would I want my stats noted and made public? Most of the players arent progamers that need their rank determined for tournaments and such. I personaly play games to relax after school, certanly not to win some fictional points for doing practicly nothing. Not to mention that the only thing the stats really show is how much time you spend playing, not how good you really are. So what are we trying to prove here?

I guess the only reason that stats are noted online is, wether it is SD’s or Activevision’s choice, to make ppl play the game more than they really want to.

I do agree that someone gets obsessed about their stats reaching the top but also, there are people who are just genuinely curious to look at some numbers and to check if they’ve improved since the last gaming session.

I don’t see why this feature shouldn’t be available out of the box. You know? If they make the stats available as a feed/XML I’m gonna put my rank and position along with the GDF logo in my Vista Sidebar. Am I a weirdo just because I like to look at numbers?

well, if you join to a clan, you might want to show the leader how good you are. Of course the cold math won’t do justice but it will help people make a first impression.

Shouldn’t this be a good reason, then just uncheck the option to make your stats publicly available (providing such an option exists).

One thing I don’t understand: if ET:QW can be hosted on a private server, what’s preventing the obsessed ones from hacking > sending fake stats to the global ranking system?

It’s not bullshit, since certain people like it.
Look, I don’t like them either, but “give the people what they want”.

The shit of a bull.

Of course ingame stats is bullshit but the developers decided to include and despite what people say, they will use it.

We just want to know if we can tap into the system and display the stats on our server. I never said I even liked stats but I know people will ask if we can display their ingame stats and I don’t think it would be a big deal either way.

I’ve helped build two leagues in the past, one for Quake3 and the other for Mechwarrior. I know this:
Clan leaders
League admins
…will want to know what the ingame stats are on players

Anyone who played in a clan knows that stats does mean alot… not that every player is valued by stats only…but theres some pretty elementary statisitcs that are quite valid, and can be pulled together, and to some extend determine if this player is good or not.

Ofcourse you cannot look at a statfile only, and parse a player that had 60 kills and 10 deaths, and thereby determine that he is good or bad, better or worse… noone would judge by stats alone… but imo if u use it in the right context; yourself/other players/overall skill of match/server… all together, players DO measures themselves and competitors, naturally…

imo th ones who say it is “bullshit” , are the ones getting bad stats :stuck_out_tongue:

The only moments it is bullshit is when stats are bugged… (which they are , i beleive, more than we realize )

get a clue please

(mortis) #11

Explanations don’t get any more succinct than that!

(nappy) #12

It might be fun to have stats on who completed certain objectives instead of accuracy and K/D ratios.

(mortis) #13

e-penis^2 = (pub frags)^2 + (pub accuracy)^2

The math is simple!

Stats should have the following categories, IMO:

Games played
Hours played
% of time on objective
number of revived teammates
number of defused explosives
total med packs distributed to OTHER players
total ammo packs distributed to OTHER players
favorite maps by XP score
favorite maps by total time

Really only the top three would make a cool sig.

Sounds good.
