We need a pick-limit on classes

(MarSouls) #1

In this gamemode, which you’re supposed to hold, suppress, attack and all the rest, i think we actually need to stop some class picking , because for example, you can’t have a full team of rambo snipers. It’s really confusing and you just struggle a 8m match.
Some people won’t be okay with this statment, but i think we need this stuff.
Maps are not all the same, and sometimes people just stack up 4-5 classes in a row which don’t have any sinergies on the map. What do you think?

(Kroad) #2

No.
Let people play who they want to play. In pubs, winning isn’t important, just play to enjoy yourself. If the entire team enjoys sniping, go ahead. If someone likes running up to people and batting them, that’s up to them.

(MarSouls) #3

Thanks to this i think many people , including me, aren’t really enjoying themselves actually. It’s not that fun once you experience it in a match that lasts 10+ minutes

(NuclearSharkhead) #4

It’s ridiculously funny to see like 5 Stokers/Skyhammers alternating molotovs/airstrikes on the EV when playing defending side on Chapel.

(MarSouls) #5

Indeed, it’s absuive and annoying. We need to have pick limitations

@pepperyknight , no. It’s not about having fun or not. I play Dota2 a lot , and many people say “just play, stfu and enjoy the game.” Well, no. It’s a team based game, and you cannot play a game playing solo-randomly without working with team. You just lose time, and the same applies to your teammates.

People don’t even hold, suppress or defend in a game (this game) that needs that gameplay style, and having a lot of instaclass spammer in team it’s just stupid.
When you’re in a server where people play as a team you have a lot of fun, speaking of which. When this doens’t happen, you just don’t have fun

While I generally agree, you do have got to admit this is Casual gamemode, people can do whatever they please, even though this game is team focused.

I guess you’ll just have to wait till ranked play really starts to take off/matter. Like CS GO. That’s when the teamplay starts. Till then, infinite Proximity mines it is ^^

(MarSouls) #7

I do admit it indeed, it’s a casual gamemode. I’m just pointing out something that me and many people as well noticed. I mean, I can’t be the only one that thought that.
Yeah, ranked (if it is willing to come on DB) will be probably a full teamplay experience, looking forward to that.
Btw even TF2 has a class-picking limitation if I recall well, and it’s pretty enough a casual gamemode overall (yet the teamplay works…)

(DB Genome editor) #8

There are no class limits in vanilla TF2, but there are server-side mods that impose some.

True, I’d prefer we abuse the hell out of the game now than later (we’re testers after all), I’m pretty sure the devs are insightful enough with their echo tech to realize when we’ve broken something in the game to the extent that it merits their attention xD It probably wouldn’t look too good in tournament play later if they kept things the way they are now.

I mean, what would viewers of these tourneys really say? “Omg look at how skilled that 8 Skyhammer team comp is at bombing the EV” ? Nah. Let’s be real. They’d find it pretty uninteresting.

(The99thProblem) #10

I do see where you are coming from, but this would definitely be a turn off for many players.

(Litego) #11

Don’t need it. In casual people play whatever. In ranked, at higher levels people will play what’s needed to win. Though at lower levels it’ll pretty much be the same as casual.

I don’t know if I’d be ok with it in ranked, maybe, but I think it would work itself out. And it allows for more interesting setups in pre made teams if they can experiment with everything.

On custom servers however then of course we should have the ability to do this, just like in TF2.

(bubblesKeyboard) #12

Yeah I agree with Litego. Besides, some maps call for it. Spamming airstrikes at the EV are very effective, and 4-5 skyhammers with a few medics would be hell for the attackers. Likewise if everyone ran proxy and spammed the objectives it would be tough for the other team to do much. Yeah it would be a meat grind but also very effective (and annoying). The only real problem I see is a team full of snipers trying to pull off 360 yy FaZe clan no scopes, but so far that hasn’t been the case…

(Jinuaja) #13

No I don’t think this will matter much when all the classes are balanced out. All the classes will have there strengths and weak points, but a mixed should do better than a unbalanced team if the team work is there.

(artfulSedan) #14

No please no. I lvoe palying on or two players that i liek and can identify with, i don’t want to be forced to play a merc i don’t like because someone else picked (one of the things i don’t like about LoL and Dota but there it makes more sense because you have only ONE char and you play with it for 20+ min). When the team ahs some sense they wont pick all the same merc ( or basically the merc triplet).

(coruscate) #15

First of all, is it really that effective? A proxy can repair the EV in 5 seconds. A skyhammer can call in the airstrike every 1.5 min.
40 Seconds in the EV repair/destroy cycle and a full team of skyhammers are down provided that NONE were killed before they could call in their airstrike AND every airstrike is successfull.
that leaves the attacking team 40 seconds to move the EV which is from spawn to the bridge I believe.

I see another major problem with this mechanic. You are allowed to bring 3 Mercs into the battle.
Level 1s dont got enough money to buy another merc. Let’s assume there is a full lobby of 8v8 Level 1s. They ALL got Merc A, B, C in their squad. You are just allowed to use each Merc twice. 2 people cant frigging play ANYTHING. Now you would have to set the limit to 3 to make it POSSIBLE to play with the same mercs over and over again. The stated issue was a 8 man Stoker/Sky team which now is just a 6 man team with 2 medics. Hooray u just pimped the p00p out of the game!
The mechanic used in W:ET was way better, you cant spam Airstrikes since there are to less planes around to fly the called airstrikes.

(Fana) #16

I agree that there should be a “pick-limit” in matchmaking. Server browser games should be left alone for now.

I’d like to see “highlander” in matchmaking (only 1 of each merc on each team), but may need to wait for more mercs to become available before this is viable. If enough mercs are added, it might even be viable to implement some sort of drafting mechanic in matchmaking games, which would add more strategic depth to the game.

(syku) #17

The problem right now is the limited amount of mercs available, theres only 7 mercs to pick from and not a lot of people even have all 7 unlocked, so you’re gonna get team with 5 proxys for example. when they put in the rest of the 7+ mercs i dont think you will experience the same problem.

(resonantCasserole) #18

So as i understand you want to restrict people playing what they want, in example if i join a 8v8 game and theres all the classe i like already capped, i gotta play the merc which i dont like. I think that makes people troll more.
Also people raging at snipers. Why are you raging? Pubs are for casual game, if i wanna play sniper i play it. Doesnt matter if u tell how useless i am. Thats why im practicing it to be better.
Just my opinion.

(goodAntelope) #19

The only place this needs to be implemented is in ranked matches. Let the pubs do what they do best.

Wow, this post was completely dead and you haz revived it based on old information. Obviously it hasn’t been that big of an issue seeing as there was no response since March 27th.

Dead threads died for a reason.
