We are not entitled to retro active cases, and here's why

(watsyurdeal) #1

So I’ve been seeing a lot of people, suggesting that the new arsenal cases should be retro active. As in once the update goes live you would get the cases you should have gotten before, in my case, I’m level 58 I think, so I would get about 40 or so of these arsenal cases.

Now, this is a dumb idea, and I’ll explain why.

First of all, I am not entitled to jack, despite how much money I spent on the game or how many hours I have played. I spent the money on something I wanted at the current time, which would be mercs or cases. And I played the game because I enjoyed it, because it’s not quite like anything else on Steam right now. So why should I be rewarded, for playing a gamer I already like? I am not testing anything, I am not being paid, I do this purely for my own personal enjoyment and so is everyone else. This is not a closed beta anymore, this is essentially an Early Access game. So anything that happens from now going further is subject to change.

Second, there would be an immense disparity of cards, credits, etc, think of how many people are level 40 or more, and how many cases they would get, and the chances of those containing good stuff. Fairly likely I imagine, so as if we didn’t already have a ton of cards and credits, why should we expect more? That’s just pure greed honestly, we don’t need that, especially when trading and the market place is inevitable.

And finally, this is absolutely fair going forward, cause everyone starts out with the same chances on getting the new second edition cards. Nobody has x amount more than anyone else, everyone has gen 1. So it’s essentially a reset. And I think that’s a good thing going forward, though I can easily see the inevitable problem here.

Eventually we will have 9 DAMN GOOD cards for EVERY merc, so then they just add new ones, with new skins and what not. Or add more possible weapons, like a Phantom with a Shotgun or a Thunder with the K 121.

But I’m getting off a track, but this is a rant thread so whatever, bottom line is, we are not entitled to jack. We played this game for so long cause we WANTED TO. I did not expect anything in return, so neither should you, it’s a shooter not a cosmetic hoarding sim.

I’m just waiting for all the whinging to come to this thread because a bunch of people are just so upset over the fact that they’ll have to keep playing this game to get new stuff. What a shame.

I feel like we’re thinking about a different game.

I play this game because it’s fun and I enjoy my time in it. I also like collecting and felt the level up reward sucked long before the change (as most did that actually care about this).

New players still have to put the same number of hours in that we have to reach higher levels but get properly rewarded for the levels they accumulate. They are on equal footing as us, just back in an earlier stage, but now have better opportunities than we do. This is not terribly unacceptable, and I’m not holding a grudge against SD for this. Still, some sort of appreciation for older players would be nice.

But isn’t that kinda unfair for players at high levels?
They will have to attain more xp to gain levels, so in turn they will have to play more to get the same rewards compared to low level players right?

No, it’s not, cause after level 10 it takes the same amount of xp to climb the levels, and at this point most high level players have a plethora of cards.

Ah so every level has the same xp requirement? I didn’t know that, thanks.

You’re wrong. You’re a customer. You are entitled to things. I don’t mind if they’re not retroactive or whatever, but your core-argument is plain wrong.

(watsyurdeal) #13

Except for the fact that the game is subject change at any given time, so no, for a finished product you would have a point. But Dirty Bomb is clearly not that.

but i like shiny things

Them introducing these cases is a good thing and I can’t really see why people are complaining. I can understand people being upset that after playing the game for a long time up until now that they did not get the opportunity to start obtaining these rewards from the first time they started playing the game. But during that time you’ve probably obtained something even more valuable than the cases that newer players will obtain… hours of enjoyment from playing a game with a bustling, friendly community and developers that listen to your feedback to make the game the best it can be. That is something far more precious.

(AlphaUT) #16

To be honest, I have to say that when I first see we will not have retroactive, I felt kinda angry, but after a while, I started thinking “well, no retroactive, than, no retroactive, will I quit this game? Ofc not, I love this game simply because I just love it.” This thread explains what exactly what I am thinking and feel right now.

(Teflon Love) #17

I also don’t think my enjoyment of the game would increase if 50 something of those cases would be shoved into my inventory. At a certain point you have all the bronze loadouts you need to support your playing style. The 2nd gen loadouts might include a couple of interesting ones to look forward to and work towards, so if at all, this makes things more interesting. And even if RNG hates me for too long, I can just buy the ones I really want with credits.

Also I think lavishing arsenal cases on high levels would have a negative impact on the confirmed (though still unscheduled) trading feature. Now everyone can start from the same spot.

(Teflon Love) #18

Also in general I’d expect higher level players to gain more XP per minute due their experience and thus level faster. Of course, not withstanding experimenting with mercs they have less experience with.

Such a controversial thread  Haven’t seen so many agree/disagrees on the same post in ages
