Well, as you all know Brink as issues, i keep getting
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/30/errorbr.png/

And i read about this error n google. And apparetnly its my graphics card. GTX 460 are rubbish and known for this to happen, Bad news is i can’t take it back.
Funny thing is i got my PC 8 days ago, and my GTX 460. And its faulty.
I’m furious i wasted my money on Brink and GTX 460 card. Nothing works for me.
Iv’e tried updating drivers but no fix. I feel sick the amount money iv’e wasted.

(McAfee) #2

How long does it take for the error to happen.

I have the same card video card, so I don’t think the card is the problem. Unless it’s faulty.

It happens randomly within 5- 20mins

(Mustang) #4

If you card is faulty and is still brand new why can’t you take it back?

(Samzon18) #5

I really don’t know what to do please help…

(Mustang) #6

Sorry i didn’t realise iput that, I was ment to say i " Hope its not faulty " I hope its the game only giving me error code 8.?
I really do becuase its brand new gear i got. :expressionless:

(Mustang) #8

Several others have reported the same error appearing with Brink only
So I think you’re safe to assume it’s a game related issue
It’s already been said that issues like this are being worked on behind closed doors
We’ll just have to be patient and await the forthcoming patch

(Samzon18) #9

I found this http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/show…?t=1889391
Same problem? Same game? so it is Brink after all and not my PC? Can you guys please confirm this before i go crazy.
Hoping your right, after all my PC is 8 days old now. Its very unlikly somethings wrong my GTX 460 and PC?

Does that 460 work with other games? You can save yourself a lot of frustration if the answer is “yes”, and you know for yourself that your rig is stable.

“We’ll just have to be patient and await the forthcoming patch”

It was “patience” that got us to this point. Perhaps my attitude is way to oldskool, but it’s okay to be angry when you’ve been taken advantage of. How is SD, or any other dev for that matter supposed to know that releasing products in this state is unacceptable if we don’t collectively SAY so?

I haven’t really got high graphical games to test.
But i have no trouble ith Dawn Of War Soulstorm, And league of legends.

(Instant_Soldier) #13

And you feel comfortable about your rigs general stability? Then relax, you’re good. If you have the cash, buy something cheap like UT3. It’ll give your rig a decent workout and supply you with some confidence in it too. You’re new to PC gaming I take it?

(Samzon18) #14

Yes i am new, Recently got this PC. Just worried somethings wrong my gear, but i’m truely hoping its Brink making me crash only.
Thanks for replying mate.

I wouldn’t worry about your hardware at this point, this is a frequent problem with Brink and your adapter.

One thing you should do (in general) is make sure you have the latest drivers from NVIDIA.COM, not whatever Windows installs automatically or came loaded on the computer already. This will save you a lot of headaches up front when you get new PC games.

Also, to test general stability, you can run benchmark programs like Haven or 3DMark (you can get free versions of these, just Google them). Don’t worry about getting high scores that compare to what others report in these, just make sure you can run them repeatedly without errors.

The error you’re seeing is a relatively generic crash message that comes up when an OpenGL application crashes. Getting it frequently in multiple applications could be an indication something was wrong with your hardware or software (drivers), but in this particular case there is a known problem with Brink where this happens very frequently for a lot of users.

Thanks for reply, Iv’e tried updating all my drivers etc. And i still get the crash, Wierd thing is can play the game on 800 x 600 resolution, for longer without crash, like 15- 25mins, but with my 1600 x 1200 its like 5 - 15mins, you think its defently Brink causing this error for me?

(aziztcf) #17

Your hardware is fine, there’s a ten page topic about this problem on the front page. It seems to affect a lot of 4xx/5xx series cards.

(jfunk) #18

Yes, and lowering the screen resolution seems to affect its frequency for many users as well. I personally see a drastic change in its frequency when I overclock my card (even though it normally runs completely stable when overclocked). However, I’m lucky enough that with my card running at stock speeds I can play indefinitely without getting the crash (it’s only happened to me twice while running at stock speeds, and they were 7 hours apart).

See this thread for most of the information on it. This is also where Splash Damage has acknowledged the problem, stated they have reproduced it internally, and requested more information from users about it:

Okay, i spent a fortune on my Gaming PC and apperently my problem is my PSU, Its 400 W And i need 450 W?
I spent a ****ing fortune and i can’t even run a game? this is pathetic. !!!1

(Moonlighter) #20

While I will say 400W for a gaming rig is a bit low, how did you figure it was your power supply?
