Nice info there .Im pleased:>
Want a taste of SMART? Try the Crysis 2 demo
So am I. Every time one of the SD guys explains something my patience dies a little inside.
Every time someone says using SMART means you don’t have to use skill, I die inside a little. It’s an oversimplification to call it an oversimplification.
You have jump and crouch, like any other game. You can slide, vault, mantle and wall hop manually just fine. As a convenience you can use SMART on top of those, or you can ignore one for the other. The best players use both as and when they need them. Different tools for different situations. They’re not using it because they’re mollycoddled by ease-of-use features. They use it because it gets it done when they need it done. It just works.
As a general game design principle, if you lower the barrier to entry, you must raise the skill ceiling. SMART enables some fairly crazy stuff at high level play. It doesn’t just normalize skill - it gives new possibilities. A vault on its own might be a common occurrence, but you’ll still see chains of moves which really impress you. The other week I saw someone speed vault into a wall hop to cover ground, then drop into a slide, knocking the enemy down, all while being shot at. Covered about 20 meters in 2 seconds.
Lights can be frikkin’ ninjas, but you have to work for it.
You know what would be better than telling us, give us a video that is the SMART equivalent of the “Choir of Guns” trailer, so we can see the full power of SMART, please (por favor)(per favore)(Bitte)
Better yet, release a vid for each bodytype, showcasing the movement potential for each.
Yeah I’d rather get a look at each body type myself doing smart so I can see EXACTLY what the potential/limitations are. Not EPIC light coolness. I’ll be seeing plenty of that after release.
Hopefully its more beta than demo, the game is there they just need to tweak everything so you don’t punch someone with your back to them or kill them with your sight 5 ft away
Thanks for steppin’ in, Bezzy!
At one point or another, SD/Bethesda is going to have to open their robe and show us all what makes Brink unique.
A video demo of the three body types would be cool for reference, but we have seen the medium body types (and the heavies?) in all the videos previous. What we haven’t seen really, is much Light. I don’t think the EPIC SMART can wait until we do it. If SD waits, we will be the only ones doing it. People need to see it now. We already know what we should be able to do, and we also have faith that SD is delivering. After the Guns video, cool sounding as it was, half my community went back to “Meh”. Enough talk and diagrams already.
Show us those water-cooler moments of the veteran/testers playing the Lights with great skill. A three minute montage with 10-20+ sec. cuts, from first person and from the view of others, all with HUD on. Let us pour over it pulling every detail of gameplay out of it, frame by frame.
I didn’t even know what could be done with TF2 until I started watching the competitive player videos available on Youtube. Suddenly, the whole game opened up to me. Every night the boys worked on new tricks they had seen on the videos, and it became the go to game for months. Before that, it was just so-so.
Don’t be shy, SD. Open the robe.

The last time someone opened their robe to me I lost my virginity so lets make this a 2 for 2 happy occasion.
I 2nd this notion. I’d rather see the movement speed and SMART abilities of the different weights.
Well, a video still doesn’t tell you how the controls feel. That, you have to find out for yourself.
Basically, we have already. All the videos shown thus far have been showcasing medium builds doing all sorts of things. Heavies basically can’t climb, so just imagine them as less mobile than the mediums. Not being able to move is easy to imagine.
What we haven’t seen, aside from the brief around-the-ship demo, (which again, was probably just a medium build) is a lot of parkouring around in the Light body.
I am not saying I don’t want a 3-body-weight comparison showcase video. I am just saying that before we get that, how about we see a vid dedicated to Light movement, in a real game setting. The parkour is just one aspect of the game, but that one aspect is fully 1/3 of the reason I am buying the game.
Just as an aside, we have been told already that the Heavies basically cannot parkour, so I know that I will not play as one on a regular basis. They can be deadly in the hands of a patient, strategic, and skilled player, but I am too ADD to ever play one, especially since you cannot change weight in the middle of a game. (I’ve only played the heavy class in TF2 for minutes as compared to the 10s of hours for every other class). Not for me.
Seriously, if what we have seen in the videos released thus far is the extent of the parkour that we will get, then I may as well play Gears of War or Bulletstorm. I don’t believe it is, but don’t you think that with only 3 months left before release, it is time to show it off a little?
