Waiting times between 2 rounds

(disguisedRocket) #1

Lobby : 1 min
Loading : 15 sec
Warmup : 20 sec
Map tutorial : 15 sec
Count down : 15 sec
(playing…)
End screen : 40 sec

We need to wait almost 3 minutes between two games. It’s far too long…

(avidCow) #2

Agreed.

(triteTongs) #3

What do you suggest to cut out?

Because the Lobby time is far too short.

If I type to people, I miss my loadout.
Loadouts are largely based on the maps that get picked. That gives you about 15 seconds before you get locked in with your loadouts.
IMO, Increase it to 25 seconds for to pick a loadout.

Warmup can be bypassed if people are ready. Warmups are needed for those who don’t load as fast.

Map tutorial is about 10 seconds btw.

For a stopwatch game that can take up to 20-30 minutes, you expect someone to just jump right into another game without a break?

(disguisedRocket) #4

Well, previous Splash Damage games didn’t have the lobby and all this stuff. You just joined a server, then play… Without any pause.

They could allow us to change our loadout in game - because tbh, I don’t see the point to force us to choose 3 mercs per game.

And that’s the funny thing: with 2min30 between 2 games, you still don’t have the time to choose your loadout. This is suboptimal.

(disguisedRocket) #5

… and this long waiting times could be a reason why so many ppl left after a game… and let you play 2v1 :frowning:

(avidCow) #6

Choosing a new loadout means loading more stuff too.

(triteTongs) #7

That’s not the reason.

Why would people leave the game to spend more to spend time finding and loading in another game.

They leave because:

  • People were pubstomped and want to find a new server that’s more enjoyable
  • Got a case that they want to open
  • just taking a break

(Gi.Am) #8

While your reasons are all valid. People do drop out to cut down the waiting time. If you quit a server at the end and join one that has a game allready in progress you cut the wait time down to 15 sec for deploying + map loading.

The wait time in itself isn’t so bad but the way it is split is.
there is alot of wait-wait-load-wait-load-wait… going on that is frustrating.

A few things that could be done to improve the overall situation.

combine Endscreen and Lobby
move the endscreen of the last match to the lobby of the next.
Cuts out the jarring wait time at the end of a match. People can study their stats while waiting for the next round or use the extra time for better loadout selection.

Cut out the weapon synchrotimer.

Hide it behind the Map loading screen. Waiting 15 second more for a map to load is way better than seeing another pointless timer go up after the lobby timer just finished.

Persistent chat.

Right now lobby chat, ingame chat, and endscreen chat are independent of each other clearing the chathistory and breaking potential conversations that would also distract a great deal from the wait times.

(joekerr) #9

I agree. I usually tab out of game while those screens are loading.

Not really sure why people need a lot of time. If you want to change your three mercs just leave the game. I think your “merc squad” isn’t something you really need to be changing between games (at least not in pubs).

Also the screens where it reviews the objectives you have to complete… totally pointless. Sure, it benefits a lvl 1 I guess, but the objectives are marked as objectives on the map. Anyone can figure it out.

(capriciousParsely) #10

I still don’t understand why you when you join a server in progress you have to first load the map and THEN deploy, while your character sits in the server and is killable.

(watsyurdeal) #11

Cut out the deploy time when you join a game already in play.

(Glot) #12
  1. minus deploy time. (you can be even killed on spawn while deploying)
  2. much less endtime.
  3. Chat OVERLAY (chat doesnt disappear)
  4. less time to mapvote (those who vote, need only 2-3 seconds to vote).

(ZGToRRent) #13

Agreed with everyone.
Deploy time is too long, we are already spawned so it’s useless on some ways.
Mid-game time should be cuted to 10 sec.

You can avoid second lobby by changing one value in config. But then You can’t change mercs in-match.

(triteTongs) #14

revamp the character selection screen so it’s faster too

It feels so laggy and slow to select a character. Sometimes I don’t even know which card I’m even picking and I have to wait to highlight over that gun.

You should also Pin favorite cards for each person to the front of the loadout screen. Sometimes I’m picking an Iron buried deep in my loadout screen just because he has a unique weapon I want to use.

(Szakalot) #15

don’t care: gimme, gimme gimme!

(ZGToRRent) #16

Go to your ShooterGame.ini file located in My Documents/My Games/UnrealEngine3/ShooterGame/Config

Find this line:

[ShooterGame.SGUIHUDManager]
m_OpenMenuByDefault=true

and change to false

(Glot) #17

and yes. do not show us obj-Movie between rounds. we kinda saw this several minutes ago, didnt we?

and maybe disable obj-Movies for competitive servers?

(stealthyCaper) #18

Disable objective movies for all servers except the max lvl 6 ones, I’d say.

(MissMurder) #19

We’ve definitely seen this feedback a lot. Hoping for a skip button for those tutorials at some point.

(capriciousParsely) #20

Skipbutton is nice, but it doesn’t decrease the waiting time. I feel that objective servers really takes a long time to get going, especially considering the games are really quick.
