W:ET 's future : Enemy Territory 2 ??

(schnoog) #21

With the cash generated by Brink I think SD can now work on something more “light” and release a game for like 20 €

Referring to the brink dedicated server forum and a big IGNORANCE (have a look on the “linux server client” topic), I`m almost belief SD is absolutly uninterested in what the community wants / needs.

…not to argue but download shouldnt be a problem these days…
and the game is still my favourite but as said before outdated
so as i am a joke in c++ i am sitting on the fence and hope someone can make it happen

Google for Gordon Dodrilli C,thanks to him,I learned C easily. The basics learning comes fast, depends on human. But you ill start understanding the ET code structure.

(.Chris.) #24

How so? They have limited resources and funds from the publisher, they have to prioritise what they can and can’t do in their post release support, from various IRC chats and posts made in these forums I would say it’s the opposite of what you think, they are interested but we live in a real world, we don’t always get what we want, linux servers, SDK and such.

It’s a bit naive to think they simply don’t care because we haven’t seen any of these things we want to see.

IMO “hello world” etc kills the desire to create new ET-stuff if you’re new to coding. You will be bored to death before you open the ET-code. You should just plunge right into it.
A real coder once said “ET is a great place to start”. And it is, if you really know the game, because then you are often able to tell what even really big scripts does.

It’s very much about seeing patterns…like those mensa-tests. You sort of “have to see the blocks”, then you should be pretty safe.

(schnoog) #26

Chris, I`ve not searched the entire thread, but AFAIK the most acitve Thread in Brink server forum is unanswered by anyone of the SD team since may.
For sure they have other things to do, other timelines and so on.
But: The investment of 3 minutes, to answer the thread topic should be possible… maybe instead of “Community Question: Matchmaking” or “What We’re Playing: The Games of Summer. Ish.” or “Web Nuggets: SD Studio Profile and the History of Clans”

To clarify: I think they didn`t care about the enduser needings because they simply ignore the whole thread. Its not because no linux server bin is available yet.

(.Chris.) #27

I’m fairly sure they have stated they can’t say either way as to whether we will see linux servers as is the case with demo recording, 1st person spec and an SDK. During the whole of Brink’s development cycle SD have had to be quiet on certain issues thanks to Bethesda, I even heard a rumor that someone got a disciplinary for blabbing too much at one point. It’s not all entirely down to SD, I don’t know why there is all this secrecy but there is and we just have to make do at the moment till things improve.
Hi, I’ve been playing Wolf.ET since 2006 and I loved it and I’m still playing it. However the graphics have been killing my eyes for years now !! ANd I am worried for ET’s future, because a lots of people have been quitting ET community these days… and ET lost few ranks in the most played FPSes.

So here what 2 propositions to think about:
1_ Creating an HD version of ET to give it a big punch  or just Editting the actual game by making a new patch that improves the 3D models(polygones…) and the textures in order to make the game Up to date and ready to hit more years in the top 10 most played Online games.

2_Or just making a new Enemy Territory (ET 2 ?), wich will give the devs the chance to add more game mods or even improve the gameplay and put more content in it (+better graphics)

Make comments and tell what you think about ET’s Future ;)
I wont be holding my breath for a mod released from Sturm.

(FFSturm) #30

I have been working for years with id tech engines, just like a lot of people from here. I could not release any kind of mod (still have them in my old hdd, Rtcwmp_park, some random wildwest maps, fertopilqs demo addon) mostly because of the wait for … mmm, etqw? wolf09?

Not that I want to sound harsh, but I still don’t understand why people from wolf community still understimate the content of my current project. I have only shown a 1 percent of it (mostly placeholders).

I won’t be holding my breath for a project that only changes code but still lacks of 2d/3d/sound artist designer.
A project with no art direction, no concept desing, and a lack of an idea already made physic in documents its ment to fail.

Making a mod, it’s not just make a map. It’s doing a full and complete project. Takes years, takes time…

-
Umm, ok, I was bored. long read yeah? :penguin:

Oh, to make it clear.

My mod is not going to replace Etwolf as Et2. It’s not call of duty. It’s not Red orchestra… It may be like Medal of Honor: allied assault… but no.
Just like I said, it will follow Rtcw and Etwolf and it’s gameplay. fast paced, steatlh, and obviously great.

I am not giving more information…

Btw, chris:

Just for the point.

1 man army… sturm i guess yer going nowhere :frowning:
btw u dont give many infos… last was on Dec 3rd, 2010

(FFSturm) #32

Correction sanDIOkan:

-We are two, just like Overdose. Not better than them, but still two. He makes the concepts, ideas. I do the rest.
I can count the critics, they help too of course. I have rejected a lot of team applications, mostly because the mod is not in conditions for that.
Should I remember you that Wolfenstein 2009 had a full team and it went… no where?

Think again please.

Overdose, that game that has been worked on for god knows how many years and still hasn’t got any gameplay implemented yet? Doesn’t matter though least they concentrating on copying other tech such as megatextures and SMART. Would appear they are making tech demo rather than a game. Also they are more than 2 people working on it and they have had a fair few people come and go, wonder why they never stick around? (myself included)

Wolf 2009 was OK game, everyone wanted something else though and it’s biggest problem imo was that it was called Wolfenstein, anyway seems you think you can do better, good luck.

(FFSturm) #34

While you are right about the time they are spending in the project is way too long, i still prefer them over other modders out there telling you to: hey, visit ‘n’ site and have a nice day or directly not answering your questions.

Thanks to them I have learned even more about next gen 3d graphic desing. (not only that, but still I thank them)

Btw, they are not “copying” any tech. The renderer of the engines needs to be up to date. This is where I love crytek. From Far Cry to Crysis 2.

They stole/borrowed ET:QW’s assets to showcase their megatexture implementation.

http://wiki.splashdamage.com/index.php/An_Advanced_Terrain_and_Megatexture

Then recently they announced that they are adding in some advanced movement system which looks a lot like SMART which they claim they planned before Brink was ever announced yet it was never mentioned in their design document from few years back?

For someone who slags SD off a lot he does seem to take few cues from their work…

Don’t get me wrong though they have done nice things with the Q2 engine but that’s all, I’m concerned that they are concentrating too much on eye candy. When I originally joined them as mapper I was told simply to make a map and perhaps it will get used? Nice. I’ve been tempted to go back but my interest in modding these days is wearing thin, every game I show interest in seems to die, ET:QW, Wolf 09, Brink…

(FFSturm) #36

I mostly agree in what you say.
The lack of sdk for Brink or Wolf09 were an epic fail.

I think that the movement idea from overdose is inspired from mirror’s edge rather than brink, but still both games are based in that game, so…

Talking about my project, I really need to remake it (lies) and reduce the filesize. It’s way too big…

Yes, it’s the mod folder… and there are not videos yet.

Wheres Frostbite engine?

(FFSturm) #38

-Frostbite engine 2 you mean? Surely It’s powerful, but I don’t see waiting for weeks to BSP a map. I like Id tech engines for their performance/design way.
-Serious engine 3 is also awesome and scalable.
-Unreal engine 3? sure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSXyztq_0uM&feature=relmfu
-id tech 5 looks promising and less demanding than the rest, let’s see how it turns out.

Performance It’s where its all.

(sanDIOkan) #39

as i said, unlucky, youre going nowhere sturm…
You leak in everything and you follow too many things (doom 3 engine, xreal … and all the bull****s around)
how come there are no videos of your mod?

greetings

ps: overdose are more than 2 and i don’t think u can compare your job with their job

yeah, going no where. :frowning:
Do it by yourself and your team. Let’s see how you handle it with id tech 4.
