Voicechats you like in ET

(pack) #1

They aren’t all that bad :>

  1. allied oops
  2. allied sorry
    3)…

(bani) #2

i like the axis oops, it sounds funny.

(Mumbly-joe) #3

the axis “I’m a field ops” sounds rediculous…he sounds like dracula “I’m a field ops, I vant to suck your blood!”

(Mumbly-joe) #4

most axis voices sound like that lobster guy from Futurama…or the deli guy from that jewish bakery down the street

(|X|Avenger) #5

How about the axis Field Ops using the Binos:

Fiwring fwor effewct!

I hope the Field Ops guy comes out of the closet!

LOL – The voice chats are fun though. Doubt they’d be able to use the old ones if their use under contract was limited to RTCW, or if they would have to pay the original voice actors to use them. And considering the game is free, the developers probably wouldn’t pay big bucks for new voice chats. Learn to like the ones we have.

I could live with the voices, but the axis are particularily bad…if only they kept the same voice chat layout from original rtcw and just added the extra chat commands at the end. …I hate stumbling around trying to find “hold your fire” when I’m in disguise as a covert ops. I keep saying “cover me” which is v26 in ET instead of “hold your fire” in rtcw. (in rtcw v25 is “cover me” in ET it is “we need a covert ops”) It gets confusing especially if you play as much rtcw as I do.

the main problem i see is that for many of the voice chats, the allies and axis sound very similar, so its hard to tell them apart.

(Vengeance) #8

The voice chats even if they sounded identical dosnt matter as only the team your on hears your voice chats and which appear blue. Only global chats which appear green can be heard on both sides - there are only one set of global chats and that is by pressing 7

(|X|Avenger) #9

Even so, I sometimes get confused with the “dynomite defused” announcer vsay – can’t tell whose dyno was defused.

(Weaver24) #10

Dont make fun… ET was on a budget so they surfed though the mental asylum for a guy to do the voices : P

Oh, and for the axis voices they went to the jewish community center

These v-chats are bad, and it’s sad too because they do MAKE the game. Even under a budget it is possible to get good actors to record dialog for free. Actors, voice or otherwise, are always looking to pad their resume with another job. I had no problems filling positions for a number of narrations in my animated shorts with actors who worked for screen credits alone.

Bottom line, V-chats in ET are absolutely horrible. I haven’t heard dialog this bad in a game since the original resident evil. “Jill!! Barry!!” Hopefully the Splash Damage will allow for 3rd party sound packs to replace the current v-chats and some of the other sound effects if they don’t bother to change the current v-chats in game.

ROFL :drink:

I think the vchats are fun and funny. Spam it like we do on vanilla Wolfy.
I rem. when I fired the game up for the first time and hit a vchat command. I believe it was destroy the obj. My first reaction was eww… But then I started spamin some yes, no and oops -=MyFav.btw.
After a while I just giggle now when I hear it and never really think about it. I think the animation of the character on the left is funnier then anything. He reminds me of the original wolfenstein way back when Wolfenstein was @) wolfenstein on LAN at my Training Dorm in the AirForce. shrugs I can live with these sounds… They’re funny IMO.
Haha, OOPS! I can’t put my finger on it at the moment but, it sounds so familiar.

(Englander) #13

I agree there really funny some of them and tend to grow on you.

My favourite is the Axis when they say “medic” i still laugh when i hear it LOL.

@BINXALOT ,to me the game play is the paramount feature of the ET,the V Says are secondry, to say they make the game is incorrect.

There are a whole slew of problems with the vsays.

The most glaring to me are:

The axis voice is just plain bad, and not even consistent. It seems to go from Dracula to Bababooey sounding.

The allied “medic” call is inappropriate. The voice should have some urgency and fear. It sounds like he is already dead, don’t bother reviving him.

OTOH I like the announcer voice talent a lot, but I think there are two announcers or one that is wildly inconsistent. One announcer sounds like Walter Cronkite, another like a Movietone news announcer.

I like most of the allied vsays (ie “i’m a medic” “thanks a lot pal”).

From my POV there needs to be three voice talents that are consistent. The producer needs to make sure they don’t slide out of character.

The consistency is a big issue for me. As someone else mentioned sometimes it is hard to distinguish between axis and allied vsays.

Speaking as a producer/recording engineer, I would retrack all the axis vsays with different talent, a few of the allied and some of the announcer.

This is assuming that there aren’t some better takes that exist. But the axis voice has got to go. I would go with a more “Sgt. Schultz” voice without going too over the top.
